“Shinbe,” Toya shouted over the rustling overgrowth. “Use that psychic hoodoo ability of yours and find the heart of this thing.” His lips thinned as a brier bush found a way around his arm and left a trail of blood in its wake.

Shinbe glared at Toya but nodded and drove the end of his staff into the earth. Closing his eyes, he concentrated on their surroundings. The world around them suddenly became black and white behind his eyelids.

Furrowing his brow, he continued to search. He saw a flash of pink showing him where Suki was beside him. Toya was glowing with an otherworldly silver glow. Kamui, who still hovered above them on Kaen’s back, was alight with every color known and unknown, while Kaen was a vibrant red. Kyoko sat behind him shimmering with a combination of bright blue and su
