The Mysterious Letter.....
Mya:  Things were not as it seem. I left my parents’ house, thinking that I would be able to survive on my own. Ha, what a joke. I only been on my own for six months and I was already going to lose my apartment. I was always late on rent and my waitress job was not paying me enough for bills and rent alone. but things were about to take a drastic turn for me.  “Mr. Lee, please!” I begged as I followed my boss everywhere around the restaurant. “You don’t know how much I need this job. You’re really about to fire me like this. Rent is in a few days and you’re laying me off.” “You’ll get your last check in the mail, Mya. I’m sorry, but due to budget cuts I had to let some people go and you were on the list of the cutting. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get ready for the customers.” He brushed past me, leaving there in the center of the floor. I was so hurt. I loved that job and to have it stripped from me was like taking my heart and crushing it. Even though it was only 8 dollars an hour, that job was something I enjoyed doing. Serving customers and taking orders was what I knew best.  As the other workers came in to work, I was doing the opposite. I took my leave and headed over to my car. I got in and decided to drive back to my apartment. There was nothing else for me to do. I sighed as I pulled away from the restuarant and hopped onto the freeway back to my house.  ** “No, mom.” I sighed into the phone. “I’ll think of something. I don’t need to take your money. Besides, you guys need to save that” “We can save still. I just don’t want you to lose your place, honey.” “I understand, but I won’t be able to pay you back.” I walked into the Recrest Valley Apartments and headed straight to my mailbox. I unlocked it, then opened it up. I had only one mail that day. Perfect, no upsetting bills, I thought to myself as I headed over to the elevator.  “When will you let us come see you?” Mother asked. “Mother, right now is not a good time.” ‘You always said that.” And it wasn’t. I wasn’t staying at any fancy apartments. I was living in a hole-in-the- wall building that was cheap, but not cheap enough. And the manager was kind of an asshole. Once I got inside the elevator, I pressed the button to the floor I stayed on and waited as it lifted me up to the 3rd floor. The clanking of the elevator always scared me. I had to tighten my fist and think of something else, instead of me falling back down onto the bottom floor. “Mom, I’ll call you back.”  I told her. “Once I get inside, I’m going to look for a job.” “Alright, honey. Your father and I both love you very much.” “Yeah, I love you, too.”  I hung up the phone and moved closer to the elevator door as it stopped on my floor. The double doors opened and I walked out, feeling secure once again. I headed towards my door and when I got there, I pulled my keys out to unlock the door. Moving inside, I shut the door and turned around to look at my basic ass apartment.  “Man, I need to do better.” I thought to myself.  I put my bag and phone down, then I was ready to relax and look at the one piece of mail that I still had in my hand. I kicked my work shoes off and took a seat on the couch. I glanced at the envelope in my hand. It was weird. No name and address was placed on it. So, who p.ut it in my mailbox? Curious, I opened the envelope and the letter fell out of my hand with something inside of it. I unfolded the letter and a CD fell out of it.  “What is this?” I asked myself. Before I could do anything, a knock came on the door. Rolling my eyes, I got off the couch and walked over to it. I opened the door and of course, my manager was standing there with a smug look on her face. “Wanted to remind you to pay your rent and bills on time.” She said.  “I know, Mrs. Sanders.” I said. “You know and yet, you pay late? Next month, it needs to be on time.” “I will get it to you.”  “Good.” She walked off and I shut the door, quickly. Still holding the dvd in my hand, I walked over to my laptop and decided to pop it in. At first nothing happened. Of course, I thought it was a bust. When I was ready to turn it off, a message came onto the screen. Did you read the letter? Did you get your tracking bracelet and medication? Press yes or no… “What?” I asked. When I clicked no, another message popped up. No further access until letter is read and equipment is received… Thank you and have a nice day… The CD turned off, returning my computer back to the regular screen. “What are they talking about?” I asked as I got up from my laptop. “There was only a CD in the damn thing.” I walked back to the couch and picked up the letter. There was something else in it. Unfolding the letter, I found the bracelet and the medication taped to it. Removing the two items, I glanced at the letter and began reading it. Hello Mya, there is a reason you are being contacted by letter. This is a private letter that is only for your eyes only. I have a question for you: How would you like to make 50,000 dollars? Yes, I thought you would. Here’s what you need to do. Our association has been looking for women around the ages of 18 to 30 to participate in this program. If you are interested in learning more, the next step is to take the CD you have received with this letter and put in a laptop. Nobody else should be around when you do this. Like I said before, this is for your eyes only. Once you are done with everything, throw the disk out the window as it will self destruct after everything is confirmed. The letter will began to burn away on its own, so we recommend you to not hold on to it after you are done reading this. Now, go to the CD step, please. Looking forward to seeing you in person. From, H.A. I dropped the letter, immediately and just like it said, the paper began to eat itself until it was nothing more than a heap of smoke. With the bracelet and the medication still in my possession, I headed back over to the computer and did the CD, one more time. When the question popped up again, I was able to click ‘yes’ that time. Then, a ringing noise came from the computer. Not wanting anybody to hear anything, I grabbed my headphones from behind my laptop and placed them in the headphones input that was placed on the right side of my computer. Then I put my headphones around my head and over my ears.  Ringing continued for a few seconds, then another screen appeared. It was a empty seat and a glass window in the back. Everything was a white color.  “Hello?” I spoke first into the mic. Moments later, a woman came onto the screen. She took a seat in front of the screen and smiled at me. “Before we begin, can I see your bracelet and your medication, please?” She asked me in a sweet tone.  I nodded, then held the bracelet and the pills up to the camera for her to see. She nodded her head, then she typed something on her computer.  “Are you alone?” She asked me. “Yes and no one can hear us.” I told her. She contiinued clicking away on her keyboard. Once she finished, she put her hands back in her lap and turned her eyes back to me. “Good.” She said. “Now, I would like to introduce myself. I will be your personal representative for this program. My name is Alice Portelli and I work at H.A.” “Can I ask what H.A. stands for?” “Of course. This is program is for the Hybrid Association. “The Hybrid? What’s that?” She smiled at me. “You will find out once you are enrolled into the program.” She said. “You’re not going to kill me, are you?” She laughed and shook her head. “Nothing of the sort. You have a crazy imagination.” “Sorry, I got really nervous there. Didn’t mean to ask that question.” “No problems at all. Now, as you know, we’re offering 50,000 for your participation in the program. That is if you are eligible.” “How can I become eligible?” “By passing all my questions.” “Alright.’ She typed something else on the computer before her hand moved to the mouse.  “First question: Are you virgin?” “Um… What?” “Are you a virgin?” “Why would that be any of…?” “Each question is vital to this program.” “Wow… Um, okay…. Well, yes, I am.” “Good. Full name?” “Um, Mya Hernandez.” “Race?” “African American and Hispanic.” “Nice. Okay, age?” “18.” “Right on the mark.” She put something into the computer again before she moved on to the next question. I was still trying to figure out what those questions had to do with the program. “Weight and height?” “Um, height? I believe I am 4’9. For weight, I am 175 pounds.” “Okay, not bad. Do you work?” “Unfortuanately, I don’t. I just got laid off a hour ago.” “I’m sorry to hear that. Well, I have some good news once I finish up with the questionaire.” I nodded and waited for her next question. “Eyes, hazel. Is your dyed?” “Yes.” “Okay, we can’t have that in the program. we will have someone remove that if that’s okay.” “Not a problem.” “Tattoos? Piercings?” “No.” “Good. Do you shave?” “Yes.” “Recently?” “Yesterday.” She nodded herself. “Did you have a period this month, yet?” “No.” “Okay, so this is where the pills will come in. The pills are to bring your period out earlier than expected.” “Alright. When should I take it?” “Before you go to bed. Don’t worry if you bleed a lot, it’s a normal effect.” I nodded and glanced around once I heard her clicking on the keyboard again. “Now, you stay in New York City at the Recrest Valley Apartments right? Apartment 324, exactly?” I squinted my eyes at her before I nodded at her question. “Excellent. Can I get your phone number, please?” “Sure.” I gave her the number and she typed it into the computer. “Do you drive?” “Yes.” “Do you have a license?” “Yes.” “A car?” “Mm hm.” “Any children?” “No.” “Have you ever had abortions?” “No.” “Sorry, I have to ask these things. I remember you said you were a virgin.” “No, it’s okay.” “How many partners? Zero. Any health conditions we should know about. Heart problems? One kidney? Cancer?” “No, not that I know of.” “Any genetic birth defects we should know of?” “No, ma’am.” “Okay. Let me finish this up since it’s for me and I will let you know the results.” I nodded and glanced down at the bracelet and pills. She wanted me to bring my period out. I try to escape those things.” “Excellent.” She said. “You passed the questions, now we can move on from this step.” “Which is?” “Signing you up for the Seminar and giving you further details.” “What’s the Seminar for?” “Where everything is explained to you about the program. I will be there with you. Like I said, I represent you.” “Okay.” “So, the Seminar is tomorrow morning at 6am. Make sure you are up and ready to go before the car gets there.” “I’m an early bird. So, I will definitely be ready.” “Great.” “Um, I did have some questions.” “Go ahead.” “Will this hurt?” “It’ll bring out moderate cramps, but nothing severe. If you must, take some pain medication. Only Ibuprofen and Tylenol. Nothing else.” Good thing I had those, I thought to myself. “Now, put the bracelet on, if you can.” She said to me. I did as I was told and the bracelet lit up a green color. “Let me see it once you have it on.” I put my wrist up to the screen and she typed something in.  “Good. Let me explain the bracelet. This is a tracker for me to keep track of. It’ll let me know if you took the pills and it’ll let me know of your vitals. I will also be able to see your emotions. At this very moment, you are showing green, which is very good. It means you are not stressed or anything. That’s what we need to keep you at, okay?” “Okay.” “Now, anymore questions?” “Not at the moment.”  “I will text you in a little while to see how you are doing. I will see you tomorrow. Please, throw this CD out your window once we are done here.” “Alright. One more question. Is there anyway, I can get a small pay for doing this. My rent is due soon and I need to make a payment or I’ll be homeless.” “Don’t worry; my men will make a payment for you, once you get here. However, you won’t be needing that apartment anymore after you are a full member of the program.” “Oh, okay.” “You have a nice night.” “You, too.” She hung up and I quickly pressed the button for the CD to eject. Once the CD was in my grasp, I ran to the window and chugged it. Not even a second later, the CD exploded in the air, causing another smoke to appear. I closed the window door and I got ready to take the pills.
