The meeting
Dana’s P.O.V My name is Dana Sanders. I am currently 16 years old and ran away from home this morning. Why, you might ask, well, it’s a long story, but I dislike my new stepmother more than anything. She is manipulating my father away from me because she hated my mother. I had enough of her this morning and ran out into the forest to get some time away. I packed a bag and snuck out because my father actually sent me to my room. So, here I am, in the middle of the forest, crying my eyes out and not knowing what to do. I have been here for a couple of hours already, so it was now early afternoon. And it was then I heard the sounds of footsteps and they most certainly didn’t belong to my father and I could hear more than one. I hid as well as I could in the tree, but suddenly I was face to face with three gorgeous men. -Four hours ealier- I can’t believe my father actually would send me to my room, like I was 5 years old. He only does that because he knows I’m right, but doesn’t want to lose face in front of that woman. As I thought this, I packed my bag pack with some clothes, my journal (no I do not have a diary), some socks, and a warm blanket. I also packed some food and a water I have taken up to my room earlier. When that was done, I opened my bedroom window and crawled down the wall. I went to my favorite place in the forest, where I used to come with my mother. I didn’t know when the tears had come, but as the floodgates opened, I couldn’t stop them anymore. I missed my mother, and I wish my father had the brains (yes, I said that!), to see what a b***h he had married. But he couldn’t, and my mother wasn’t coming back. These thoughts kept on replaying in my mind as I cried. -Present time- Suddenly I hear noises, more like footsteps, and I know it wasn’t my father. He hadn’t come here since my mother went away. I swore internally and wished, for the first time, that I hadn’t just upped and left like this. I tried to hide in the tree, but to no avail. I am suddenly startled by three gorgeous men. They just looked at me in surprise, and then one of them smiles. I feel myself relax a bit, but kept my senses on guard, because how did they find me here? Had my crying really been that loud? And if so, why was it not my father in front of me? “Hi there.” The man said in a bright voice. I didn’t know what to say, so I waved my hand instead. “Why are you out here, all alone and crying?” He then asked me, and I swallowed before I replied. “I, I, I uhm. Well, I ran away from home, and I’m not going back just yet.” I said. The man nodded, and asked if they could sit with me, because it didn’t do, that I was sad all alone. It was a bit of a strange request, but I let them sit none the less. The men just sat there in silence for a bit before the one who had been doing all the talking looked at me. “So, my name is Max. This here is Storm and the one rudely staring is Jayden.” I couldn’t help but chuckle at his words, and I looked at each of his friends as he told me their names. “My name is Dana” I said, and flushed a little under the rather intense stare of Jayden. They were all the most gorgeous men I had ever laid my eyes upon. They were all tall, at least 6 feet, or just under. Lean build, but you could just sense the muscles under their clothes. Max has blond hair, piercing blue eyes that could see through your inner thoughts and dimples when he smiles. His voice is soothing, but demands attention and authority. Storm has dark blond hair, dark blue eyes with smiles in them, and a face that holds mischief. His aura is rather intense, but also soothing, which confuses the hell out of me. Then there was Jayden. He was giving me all sorts of emotions. He has dark brown hair, deep green eyes and, like the other two, an aura that demands respect. But there is something different about him, because his aura was so much more intense, and the way he looks at me. Like he wants to devour me, but also something protective. His eyes meet mine and I swear they darkened. “What are you three doing out here?” I ask them and is surprised when it is Storm who answers me. “We were just taking a break from the family. My cousin lives in the mansion not too far from here, and our mothers were a bit too adamant to find us a mat.. Uhm, I mean a wife.” That took me aback. A wife? But those three didn’t look to be over the age of 18 or maybe 20? And what was that word he almost let slip? Was he about to say, mate? I remembered my mother telling me stories about vampires and other supernaturals when I was a little girl. She told me to hold those stories to my heart and always remember that the world was not always what it seemed. “This does not explain how you came here? This is private land, and I know it is far from the borders of the mansion.” The guys exchanged glances, and then told me they had heard someone crying, but I didn’t know how? Would they be able to do that with normal human hearing? Except what if they weren’t human? And then it hit me. They weren’t! Max’s P.O.V -Earlier that day- “Max, darling! There you are. I have been looking all over for you! I want to introduce you to Lady Josephine; she is the daughter of Lord Jeremy.” My mother said. I smiled politely at the girl in front of me, but didn’t want to stick around. “I’m sorry, mother, but I was just on my way out. Storm and Jayden asked if I was free to take a walk.” I nodded at her and the girl, who looked immensely disappointed at my dismissal, nodded back with a small smile. My mother absolute looked livid, and I just knew I would hear for this later, but frankly I didn’t care at all. I was attending this ball under the force of her and my two aunts. Me, Storm, and Jayden are vampire royalty. We are the three crown princes of the vampire kind. Me and Storm will eventually divide the realm-wide population of vampires, just like our fathers had done before us, and rule as kings. But we would have to answer to Jayden, who would become the High King of the entire population of vampires in the realm, because he is the direct descendant of the first vampire ever to be known. Storm and I are the descendant of the second-born son of the first vampire, who then had two sons. He and his father and our uncle had to agree that those two sons would divide the world into two, and each reign as king, but have their uncles’ sons as High King and ultimately have him decide if they were ever to disagree. Storm, Jayden, and I are cousins, but we are also best friends. We decided to stick together against our mother’s adamant tries to get us to choose a mate and Queen. Vampires have mates, a soulmate who is chosen by the goddess, who first created our forefather. We have all been searching for a long time, and even though we looked like young men, we were all over 200 years old. Not that it mattered, because we were still youngsters in the eyes of adult vampires. I reach the doors outside and slip out. The chilling fall air is a delightful change from the clammy warmth inside. It doesn’t take long for Storm and Jayden to come outside as well, and we all walk towards the forest that surrounds the mansion. As we walk in silence, I know the guys are thinking of the same as me. Would we ever find our mates or would they force us to choose some random girl? I especially feel sorry for Jayden, because I know that out of the three of us, he is the one who longs the most for his mate. “So, are we going anywhere specific? Or just walking away from ‘mothers from hell in there?” Storm asks, and I can’t help but chuckle at his question. We have been going in a specific direction, but I can’t tell him why. I just know we all feel kind of drawn in here. We don’t walk for long when Jayden suddenly freezes on the spot. He looks in all directions, sniffs the air and then takes off! I look at Storm, who is just as confused as I am, and then the scent hit us both. It smells like vanilla and citrus, and it feels so familiar that they could be related to us. We follow the scent and feel it reel us in. When the sound of crying mixed with the scent, I speed up, and whoever had made this person cry would know hell! I spot Jayden, who is standing rigid and looking toward the one who is crying. This close up, the scent is definitely female, and I take a step to get closer, but one look from Jayden has me hesitating. “Jay, what’s wrong, bro? You look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Storm says in a hush voice. Jayden looks at him, eyes wide and then shakes his head. “She’s my mate, but she has just come of age and she appears to be human, but I’m not sure?” He answers, a pained look on his face. I put my hand on his shoulder, trying to reassure him, and then nods toward his mate. “Come on. She is crying, and we are standing here like creepy stalkers. Besides, I feel like I know her somehow. Like she is family?” I say and then walk toward the mystery girl. I can feel Storm and Jayden follow me, and then I see her. She is a petite girl, maybe 5,6” (she is sitting, it’s a guess, so sue me), medium brown hair, like caramel and eyes that swirl with grey, blue and green. She looks up just as we are standing in front of her, and I can she her swallowing. She smells so good, but not in a food kind of way, not that I would ever feed on a human! They taught us from small children to drink blood from a glass or cup, one morning and one evening, to keep our powers up. But always donor blood or animal blood, preferably from a predator of some sorts. I introduced us all, seeing as Storm was grumbling about why she felt so familiar and Jayden just sat there staring at his mate. I could see how he was struggling to not rush to her, take her in his arms and protect her from all the evil in the realm. Storm finally snapped out of it, and told her about the party at the mansion, and almost slipped, that our mothers wanted us to find someone and chose them as our mates. She looked at me with her mesmerizing eyes and thought about what I said. Her eyes widened, and what she said next took all of us by surprise. Dana’s P.O.V “You are vampires, aren’t you?” I asked them. The look in their eyes told me everything, and I just knew I was right. Max slowly nodded, and even though he had confirmed my suspicion, I was not afraid of them. Quite the opposite, actually. They all felt like home to me, in different ways, but still home. “How do you know about vampires? And how come you don’t seem afraid of us? Most humans would have been running for the hills by now!” Storm asks, his eyes amused and I could tell he was really honestly interested in knowing. “Well, my mother used to tell me stories about vampires, witches and such when I was little. She always told me to hold them in my heart, and just before she died, she told me I’m adopted. She had been serving a family in England, and when she was to travel back home, the couple had approached her and asked her to take their daughter with her home. They had told my mother that I was in danger and had to be brought up somewhere far away. When I was 10 years old, we moved here, and when I asked why, she had told me that this place was important to my life’s history. I didn’t understand, but she promised to tell me when I got older.” I take a deep breath. Tears are threatening to spill, but I won’t let them. This is important. I can feel it in my heart. “She died two years ago, and right after my father married again to the woman he had had an affair with for years.” The tears I’ve been holding back finally fell again, at the end of my tale, and all the guys were staring at me now. Their eyes holding different emotions, and I blushed under their rather intense stare. They looked at each other, and it looked like they were communicating somehow, and then stood up. Jayden, who had yet to say anything to me, came over and offered his hand. I took it, and small tingles shot up my arm. It was so nice and I felt a warm feeling speeding throughout my entire body, despite his hand being cool to the touch. “You need to go home now! With our families having a party, you never know who is out here, and we can’t have anything happening to you, now can we?” Jayden finally spoke, and I felt my knees go weak! I shook my head, and they followed me home, and made sure I got in my room safely. Jayden’s P.O.V We made sure my little mate got home safely, and then we started walking towards the mansion again. I couldn’t believe that I had finally found her, but I couldn’t just claim her like I wanted to. I had to be patient with her and make sure she was comfortable with me before I told her. I didn’t want to leave her, and I lingered longer than I should have, watching her in her room. She was so beautiful, and something told that my little mate held more than they eye could see. “Jay, come on man, we need to get back before our mother’s blows a gasket. We’ve already been away for too long.” I teared my eyes from my mate and looked at the guys. A small sigh escaped before I turned around to follow Max and Storm back. I decided to hold the information of finding my mate to myself and the guys for the time being. But I knew I had to tell my mother and father eventually, or they would never stop pestering me to take a chosen queen. “Guys, I want to keep the finding of Dana a secret for now. I don’t need my mother to get overexcited and start stalking the poor girl.” Storm and Max burst out laughing at my statement, because they knew all too well that if my mother got word of my mate living nearby, she would make it her mission to not only see her, but persuade her to visit and tell her all about our family - probably scaring her shitless and make her run faster than lightning for the hills. No, I needed time with her alone, to ease her into my world and show her it would be our world, together! This was going to be a long night, before I could see her again; my mate, my queen, my reason for breathing! I knew I already loved her, but it would take time before she would feel the same; don’t worry little one, I’ll make you love me one day! That was the promise I made to her, before I returned to the ball and all the questions of where we've been all that time.
