The Flame Inside Her

(Serina Wolf's pov) Another boring day at school...can't I leave yet? I looked at the clock, expecting it to be close, but no such luck I have another 2 hours to deal with. I almost groaned out loud hadn't I been in class. The lesson is History so it's super boring my favorite class I would have to say is Art and Gym, most girls hate the gym in my school but I find it interesting especially if we get to exercise, weight lifting, and or running on the track outside. I love Art cause I can mostly draw what I want and the teacher loves it either way so it works. I hated the rest of my classes but still got straight A's in them because I at least wanted to graduate so I didn't have to deal with them anymore unlike most of the kids here. Finally! The bell rang signaling lunch, I made sure all of my stuff was in my bag before leaving the classroom to go straight to the library, ha! You thought I was going to go to the cafeteria, didn't you? Well, guess what? I don't like the food here and it's too many people at once for me so I go to the library for some quiet, working on the homework I was supposed to finish last night but ended up passing out on my bed before that so I'm going to finish my homework before my next class, Math. As I said, I hate all the classes besides Art and Gym, thankfully Gym is my last class of the day, but my Art is the second class of the day. I did a double check on my homework before the bell rang for the end of lunch, I grabbed my stuff heading out, but not before waving at the librarian first giving her a small smile before leaving. I made it just on time to my next class giving the teacher my homework before sitting down at my usual desk at the back of the class nearest to the window. As the class dragged on I noticed a nerd kid upfront getting bullied by bullies behind him throwing paper and wet wads from straws. I glared at them wanting them to stop so I couldn't do anything without the teacher noticing, but to no avail, the teacher didn't even notice what they were doing to him even though he is sitting in front of the class! That's it! I've had enough and I called the teacher who looked at me in confusion "yes Serina? What is it?" I looked at the bullies who were acting innocent, I smirked at them "those kids up there are causing problems for that young boy up there." "Can you prove it Serina?" Even though I could tell the teacher believed me since I've never caused trouble unless provoked. The kids smirked at me thinking I didn't have proof, but think again f*****g brats.."yes teacher, right here" I lifted my phone to show him some pictures and a small video. "Though I know I'm not supposed to have a phone out while in class, I thought this would be necessary for this occasion" the kids were downright glaring at me at this point, I didn't f*****g care, they deserved it 100%. "Thank you, Serina and I will not punish you for having your phone out as it was used to help someone instead of ignoring my lecture" all of us got sent to the principal's office since I had the proof with me on my phone. The bullies got suspended while I and the nerd got sent back to class. The rest of the day went on as normal, as I was changing into my gym clothes a young girl came up to me, I think she is a freshman? "H-Hello, a-are you S-S-Serina?" I raised my eyebrow at her, "what of it?" She blushed and looked down at her twiddling thumbs "i-i saw what yo-you did with t-the bullies ea-earlier." "What? You friends with those bullies?" Her head shot up with wide eyes "n-no! No, I'm not I swear! I-I just th-thought I would to-tell you that i-i admired yo-you for th-that!" Besides the stuttering she looked like a sweet girl and seemed to be telling the truth "it's no big deal, I could care less what others think of what I did, but I don't care for bullies" was all I said as I walked past the shaking freshmen, maybe I could have gotten her name, but didn't think of it as the class started laps around the gym. All of my focus was on doing the exercises that were given to us until I heard the whistle to go to our locker rooms to change. I noticed the young freshmen changing back into her normal clothes, but I couldn't help but notice some bruises and cuts on her back and shoulders where her shirt covers. I narrowed my eyes but turned away changing back into my normal clothes making sure she didn't see me looking at her. I had a thought in mind that might work, but at the same time might be getting her in more trouble than she bargains for. By the time the bell rang for the end of school, I pulled the young freshmen aside. Waiting until everyone left I turned to her as she looked at me with wide eyes, "I want to ask you a couple of questions, but thought it would be better to do it while everyone was gone to make it easier for you" she didn't say anything so I continued, "what's your name?" She didn't respond at first lowering her head, but before I said anything she looked back at me "Daisy" she said softly "well Daisy, want to explain those bruises and cuts on your back?" Her eyes widened in fear going to leave, but I grabbed her arm. "There's no one around and you don't have to respond if you don't want to, but I'm going to assume the worst until proven otherwise" suddenly her body started shaking as silent tears rolled down her face, she spun around and hugged me around the middle crying her little heart out. At first, I didn't know what to do because no one has done this to me before but I slowly wrapped my arms around her small shoulders since she is shorter than me letting her have her little session as she calmed down. Daisy slowly let go of me sniffling a little as she wiped her eyes "I'm sorry" I shook my head "I don't care about that, now, are you willing to talk about it?" I thought she wasn't going to agree but she slowly moved her head and down agreeing quietly "but you have to promise me you won't tell anyone what I tell you, I don't want to get into trouble" she seriously looked terrified when she told me this and I agreed "don't worry, my lips are sealed." Daisy smiled at me before we sat down against the wall as she started talking. It took almost 2 hours to finally finish talking about what's been going on. Her father is the one that abuses her and her mother on a daily, and Daisy even gets bullied herself here as well which is making her self-esteem to get worse. I decided "hey" she looked at me with swollen eyes with some tears still inside "I'll protect you" Daisy's eyes went wide "I may not be able to protect you as much when your home, but I can protect you here when we are at school, don't ask questions just trust me." She closed her mouth like she was going to ask me "I know you're wondering why help you? It's because I choose too and I don't care for people who choose to hurt others then mind their own business, just accept it" she finally did as I helped her up from the floor. "You don't have to, but thank you anyway Serina, I appreciate it" Daisy almost started crying again but I placed my hand over her eyes "no more crying alright? It's not suitable for someone like you" a blush stained her cheeks as I removed my hand from her face "thanks" her voice is soft and quiet something I liked cause it wasn't loud like most of the kids here in the school. "Don't mention it, do you have a phone?" She nodded her head so I put my hand in front of her "give me your phone" she hesitated but gave it to me anyway. I put my number inside her phone and put the contact name as "Protector", I gave the phone back to her "whenever you need me just message or call me, if it's at your house just send me a message of your address and I'll be there as soon as I can, alright?" Daisy nodded at me giving me a smile before bounding off outside the school going in the direction I believe was her home. I don't know why I did such a thing since I don't have friends in this school, some people talk to me, but they're not 'friends' in my case. I guess Daisy's story makes me feel a certain way since it's similar to my own...A flashback of a certain image made me cringe shaking my head before walking off towards my place to see if my younger brother had arrived home yet. (Time Skip) I chopped up some potatoes to homemade fries, mixing spices into the meat making sure it's all mixed in before turning them into patties for hamburgers. Everything is homemade besides the meat from the store plus the potatoes. I made sure everything was going before washing my hands from mixing the raw meat checking on my brother as he played his video games in the living room ", you thirsty baby?" I talk differently than when I'm at school when I'm home I talk like a mother but with sternness like I do in school, though school is filled with badass voice tone instead. "Can I have some juice?" He responded not removing his eyes from the screen I smiled at him at his concentration "orange?" He nodded with a smile with a quick look towards me before turning back to the screen. I brought him his juice placing it on the coffee table behind him "make sure not to spill baby, dinner gonna be ready soon" "okay!" You see, my brother is only 7 years old while I'm 16, our parents no longer live here, they abandoned us when I first started high school, but for some reason still pay for the house and bills. I have a part-time job as a waitress to have a little money for food since that's the only thing our so-called parents don't pay for. I harbor a lot of hatred towards them while my brother misses them since he doesn't fully know why they aren't here anymore and don't want to be around us anymore. I love my brother too much to tell him why since I don't want to break his heart. After dinner was made I placed my brother's plate in front of him who eagerly gobbled his food in his mouth "calm down baby you'll choke." He slowed down but still ate pretty fast. I chuckled at him eating my part of the meal, as I finished eating a fry I looked at my brother Zack "I'm going to be working tonight at the Diner baby, it's the weekend though and I'll be able to hang out with you tomorrow" he didn't want me to go to work at night, but got excited when I told him that I would hang out with him the next day. I put the dishes in the dishwasher, starting it, and then getting ready for work. I tucked in my brother turning on his nightlight so he's not too scared. "Do you want your music box on baby?" Zack nodded his head looking at me with sleepy eyes "okay baby, I love you and I'll see you in the morning." I left his door cracked open just in case before leaving the house, locking the door behind me as I walked towards the Diner which, thankfully, is only two blocks away from our house. (Time Skip) By the time six in the morning came along, I was already exhausted since it seemed to be a busy night as we normally don't get those. I was finally able to clock out as the morning shift came in. I left with a sigh making sure I had everything before being on my way back home. I got home around six twenty plopping my bag onto the couch and taking my thin jacket off hanging it on the hooks next to the door. I walked upstairs to Zack's room making sure he was still in bed before going to my room to put on some simple shorts and a tank top for pajamas, going back into my brother's room I laid beside him cuddling him up to me. Feeling him snuggle closer made me smile softly before closing my eyes falling into a deep sleep.
