Chapter 1
Tonight, was the night we would tell parents that we had snuck away and gotten married. They wanted us to wait until after the baby was born but nothing would stop us from being together. My mother fretted over the fact that we weren’t true mates. The thought that we could find our mates at any time weighed heavy on her mind. But me and Andrew Druagin were in love and meant to be together. Star crossed lovers, better than Romeo and Juliet. We took our time and thought things through so similar but without the teen suicide I suppose. Our families were very close. My father being an enforcer for the pack worked closely with Andrews father the alpha. We were what most people would consider the perfect couple and I couldn’t have asked for a greater guy. Dressing with a little speed I glanced around my room looking at my clock. Darn, I was 15 minutes late. My parents had agreed to meet me at the party after much arguing, but I didn’t want to hold up everyone with my slow pace. Being 8-months pregnant wasn’t easy. Looking about my room I took in the view this would be the last time I was here. My room was modest in size; queen sized bed in the center of the room with a matching bedroom set of smoked maple. Light pink and blue cover accented but eggshell blue walls. Flat screen on the wall across from the bed. Helped when I wanted to rest and watch TV. Night stands with fairy lights that gave the room a soft glow when I didn’t want the brightness of my room light on. Floor length mirror to the right of my bed from target hung from the back of my bathroom door. My vanity to the left of my bed held my makeup mirror surrounded by my makeup and jewelry containers. My bathroom was next to my walk-in closet. I would miss this place it had been my favorite place go be while growing up, but this bird was ready to fly the nest. Trying to contain my smile I scanned each one of the pictures that adjourned my walls of family and friends. Tonight, me and Andrew would announce our marriage to the pack. I doubted anyone would be to shocked, or upset after we announced my pregnancy several months ago. Plenty of the pack members where excited for us. I would be there next alpha female and I was ecstatic. Andrew would to go to work with our fathers in the family business. I would work with my mom at her restaurant. My dream was to one day open up my own bakery. Finding my flats, I slide them on. I was very thankful for the pack in which I had been born into. The Escekon pack was very well off, we supported each other and were hard workers. The added bonus of being in a shifter only zone helped us to be ourselves. When shifters came forward and showed the world who we were the world reacted. Most were excepting but some where frightened and scared. Some areas divided up and turned into human only areas. Shifters fought back by creating shifter only cities. For the people who didn’t care they lived in cities for both shifters and humans. Years and years had passed since the first shifters made themselves known. We had won our rights to be ourselves, not have to live in hiding, to live a normal life and even vote. Some people that believed shifters shouldn’t exist and that they should get hunted. Shifters came together to create a council, the council aided with negotiations between shifters and humans to achieve peace. We were now living in a time of peace or as peaceful as you can get. Humans could get rowdy. The council was always watching, and we had someone to bring our complaints and concerns to. Each state had a smaller council living in it that could call the main council down. This was extremely essential in times of unrest and war. Tis the safest its ever been. Brushing my hair, I do one last pass through and place my brush on my vanity. I grab my cardigan on my bed and make my way downstairs. My home was very warm and welcoming. My father worked as a lawyer with the packs law firm, its main business, and my mother ran her own restaurant in town. I lived a very privileged life some would say. My parents only had two children due to my youngest sister dying shortly after birth. My older sister and me where all they had, and they loved us extremely. My family was very close and always sat down to have Sunday dinners. My parents designed the modern 5-bedroom 7-bathroom house and had my uncle build it. My uncle owned a construction company. When it was time to move in my mother told me the entire pack had come out to help. The house also contained; a home office, living room, dining room, kitchen, attached 3-car garage and a nice backyard. The pool held many memories of me and my friends hanging out and growing up. We had beautiful landscaping around the property, my mother was an avid garden who took pride in her work. Her love for gardening bringing color to the brown and grey house. Walking down the stairs into the living room I took one last glance at everything savoring the feel of home. Doing a loop around the ground floor I made it back to the front door. Grasping the handle, I took a deep breath and turned around and looked at my childhood home one more time. Tonight, wasn’t the end of anything but the start of my future with Andrew. Even though I felt incredible about having a husband as kind and sweet as Andrew, I had an ominous feeling. I couldn’t shake it, like tonight was going to be bigger than anything I could’ve ever dreamed about or fathomed. Unsure why I shook it off as pregnancy getters since I was getting closure to my due date. Grabbing my keys, I walked outside. Turning back, I locked the door and started the short walk to Andrews house. The alpha was hosting another pack in hopes he would find a mate for his daughter angelica. The closer I got to the house the closer I felt j was getting g to my destiny. The outside of the house was lit up with lights and the sounds of the party could be heard before I got close. Greeting pack members as I approached the party I received tons of well wishes. Entering the party, the vibe was jovial and lively.
