Chapter One
Josiah Maelburn sat around his office table looking through business applications. He required a new assistant and all the applicants were not meeting his qualifications. "Mr. Maelburn, you have a meeting in ten minutes," his assistant Margo said. Margo was in her late forties and she was ready to take time off to be with her family. Her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he was starting his chemotherapy. "Thank you, Margo," he said and she nodded leaving. He stood up fixing his suit and grabbed the files he needed. He walked out of his office ignoring the employees who would stop and stare. It was no lie that Josiah was an eyecatcher. He entered the boardroom and all the higher-level employees immediately went silent. He did a nod which they returned and took his seat at the head of the large table. Each department took turns presenting their projects and waited for him to agree or disagree. Although he watches everything he knew he needed to do another revision of their files. "I will review the files and you will hear from my assistant," he said concluding the meeting before leaving the boardroom. Josiah was not much of a talker but he knew when it was needed. He entered his office pulling off his vest and hang it on the back of his office chair. He sat down and stared at the door and at the same time his ex-girlfriend, Bianca entered his office. They broke up after she cheated on him with his half brother. "What do you want?" he asked with a frustrated sigh. Her heels click as she made her way behind his desk. Bianca Kinsley was one of the top models in California. She had a nice body and her attitude matched her looks. Rich and stuck up. Although she has denied many times videos of plastic surgery it was very obvious. "I want you," she says rubbing her arms down his shoulders. Bianca was his weakness and always will be. She was the person that he turned to in his weakest moments. She was also the person who betrayed her the most. Although he felt betrayed by his brother, the betrayal he felt by her was different. He was going to make her his wife. He shrugged her arms off his body. Josiah stare into the eyes of the person who promised they wouldn't break his heart. "Don't touch me" he said with such venom. She shrugged off his hostility and slowly remove her coat, which revealed the red lingerie. Josiah would have happily taken her on his desk but he thought of the memory of his brother and girlfriend. His brother saw her naked. He gagged at the thought and press the button which alarm his security. She rubbed on her body as a seduction move. She dropped on to her knees and slowly made her way towards him. The security made their way inside the office. They were not shocked by what they saw as soon as they entered. This had become somewhat of a hobby for them. With a nod from Josiah, they picked her up and took her outside kicking and screaming. A small laugh escaped his lips before he quickly went back to his emotionless self. He continued all the work he had to before it was time for him to have his lunch. Every day Wednesday he takes his mother out to eat. Josiah's mother was his father's mistress and after his father ditched his mother he was the outcome. Caralyn had no idea she was pregnant with Josiah when she was kicked out. She found out two months after and although she was devastated, she was very happy to be having a baby. Josiah exit his office which was located on the tenth floor. He entered the elevator and waited before he made his way towards his garage. He had a driver but refused to let him drive unless it is in an emergency. He drove to his mother's favorite Italian restaurant where she was waiting at their usual table. A smile came onto his face once he saw her figure sipping on some water. "Mom," he says and she quickly got up hugging him while smiling. Caralyn was the most important person in his life and she was the only person he showed any emotion towards. "How are you doing, baby?" Caralyn asks looking at her baby boy. She has watched over there years how he has grown to become the man he is today. "Am doing good mama" he answers as they both took a seat. "How are you feeling?" he ask his mother. "I am doing pretty great, I miss you," she says with a pout causing him to smile. "You know you can visit my office anytime and I can come to you too" he added. The waiter interrupted their conversation asking them the usual. This restaurant was a celebrity hotspot so they were not the only ones there who were famous. The waiter took their orders and served them their favorite wine before leaving. It did not take long for them to receive their meals because the chef knew their schedule. "How is everything at the office?" Caralyn asks starting conversations. "It is all good but I need a vacation. I am also searching for a new assistant because Margo will be leaving in a week" he said and she nodded in understanding. Caralyn knew most things about being an assistant for a famous billionaire. That is where she met Josiah's father, Johnathan. Josiah did not take over his father's company but instead, he started as an assistant for a very famous company. After years of taking orders, he finally decided to start from scratch. Little did he know that decision would change his life for the better. Two years later the company that he worked for ended up shutting down because of bankruptcy. "So when are you going to give me grandkids?" Caralyn asks causing Josiah to start laughing. "Momm" he dragged and they both started laughing. "For me to have kids I need a wife and I don't think I can go through another heartbreak," he said. They continued their conversation before they both parted ways. Caralyn owned a very well-known boutique in Los Angeles. It was a gift from her son for her 40th birthday. It came in handy for all the new pieces she designed over her time. Josiah made sure his mother made it safely to her car before he did the same. He decided to stop by at the office to collect his thing before heading home and calling it a day.
