Chapter 1 ♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆ "Sydney what kind of colors are you going to have for you wedding?" my mother demands to know on the phone. She has yet to meet my fiancé Finnegan Olander yet here she is worried about my colors for my wedding. "I don't know Mom. Finn and I have to set a date. Then pick a spot for the wedding. Which might be by the ocean where we first met" I begin to explain to her about my relationship with Finn. Well things were a bit complicated with Finn and his family. My fiancé used to be a merman. We fell in love after he rescued me from drowning in the ocean as well as my everyday problems in my life. Our love for each other turned him human. Now we are trying to plan this wedding. With humans on my side of the family. Merfolk on his side of the family. How was I going to tell my mom hey my boyfriend used to be a merman? She would have me sent to the loony ward for sure. "You better start thinking of these things Sydney. Your wedding will happen fast. Trust me. I still do not see what the rush is to marry this man. You have plenty of time to date you know. I mean you just met him this summer. Now you are marrying him this quickly. I don't like it" Mom tells me. I sigh. Little did she know what Finn and I have been through just to be able to date each other? Then she would understand why we want to marry. We never want to part again. "Mom, I am not you. I am not DAD. I wish you would see Finn and I love each other. As I told you before if you do not approve of this wedding fine don't be there. Your loss. I am marrying Finn. You will not stop me. And why can't you be as supportive like Grandma is?" I snap angrily. She had never even met Finn. Here she was already trying to judge him. Like Finn was not good enough for me. I was not going to put up with it. I was an adult now. This was my life! Not hers. "Number one your Grandma is crazy in the first place. Who do you think encouraged me to marry your Dad so quickly? Your Grandma that is who Sydney Shoopman. Second of all, she has met Finn. I might feel better about this wedding if I met this young man" mentions my Mom. "Well get down here. You are more than welcome to meet Finn any time" I tell her. "I will as soon as I can" Mom tells me. Finn comes in the kitchen. I did not want him to over here the heated argument I was having with my Mom on the phone about him. It would certainly hurt Finn's feelings. "I have to go now Mom. Keep in touch okay?" I ask her. Trying to rush her off the phone. "This is FAR from over with Sydney. I will talk more about this later. With that Finn of yours" she demands. "Mom, it is my life. Not yours" I remind her. "I am just saying there is no rush. Take things slow" she tells me. "I have to go. Bye" I snap as I rush her off the phone. We hang up. I sigh. I never did get along with my Mother. That was part of the reason why I was here at my Grandmas to begin with. "Something wrong Syd?" Finn worries over me as he comes to join my side. He flashes his handsome smile my way. He pulls me into his embrace. I began to feel better already being there. He had that effect on me. "Mother. Always a joy to talk to her" I laugh as I hug him close. "Oh it could not be that bad could it?" asks Finn. "Oh you have not met my Mother yet" I sigh. "I can handle her. Besides it will all be worth it to marry the love of my life" Finn vows to me. "I can't wait Finn. When should we set our wedding date? We want it by the ocean so your family can attend. We better do this before winter hits to have a nice outdoors wedding" I point out. "Well I would marry you today if you let me" laughs Finn. A happy smile spreads on his face. "I know you would. But Finn listen, when should we set our date?" I worry. "How about this fall? Perfect wedding weather I hear right?" he asks me. "Finn how did you know this? Have you been watching the wedding shows on tv again?" I giggle. He was always worried about having a perfect wedding for me. So he was looking things up on human weddings. Silly man. All because he proposed to me with a simple hair clip with a pearl on it. I still wear it to this day. "Yes guilty as charged. I watched Say Yes To The Dress" he admits with a goofy smile. "Finn" I laugh. He kisses me. "So how about it? A fall wedding?" he asks. "That is coming up fast! How about October?" I ask. "Sure, sounds good to me. Halloween?" he asks. "Oh yes, we could dress up in a ball like theme" I tell him. I was in love with the idea of a Halloween wedding now. "Wonderful. We set the date!" he says joyfully. "Oh Finn, I can't believe I get to marry you" I say happily as I press my face into his chest as he holds me close. "Sydney, I can't wait either. I will marry the girl of my dreams. My best friend. I can't wait to live our life together" he promises me. "Me either Finn. I want to tell someone! But Grandma is at her book club" I sigh. "We can tell my family. Let's go see if Crystal is out there" mentions Finn. "Sure" I agree. We head out on the beach right out there in front of my Grandma's home. Where I first met my Finn. "Crystal?" Finn calls out after we make our way to the ocean waters. No reply. "Maybe she is not around?" I say as I look out as the sun was starting to set. "Hey guys! Finn! Sydney!" Crystal replies as she pops her head up in the ocean. "Hey" I greet her. "We have some big news for you" Finn tells her. "What is going on?" she asks. "As you know I asked Sydney to marry me. She said yes. We set a wedding date" explains Finn. "Oh how exciting! When is the wedding going to be?" wonders Crystal. She grins happily at us. Once Crystal and I could not stand each other. I was glad we were friends. She married Finn's brother. Now she was over her crush on Finn. We were all family. Well were going to be family here soon. "Halloween. Here on the beach. That way we can have both families here" explains Finn. "How wonderful, I know Sydney's Grandma knows we are merfolk. But Sydney what about your Mother and Father? How will they take the news?" worries Crystal. Little did she know I worried about that a lot these days? "I will tell her. Soon" I sigh. "She is going to come meet Finn" "Oh well good luck with that" Crystal tells me with a smile. "Thanks with her, I will need all the luck I can get" I sigh. Finn smiles as he places his arm around my shoulder. No way was I going to let my Mother ruin my happily ever after now that I found it. No one was.
