Curiosity Killed the Cat
Davina POV.   Feeling the steering wheel in my hands with the wind breezing by me with no care gives me a sense of freedom. A freedom that I always feel when driving. I’m away from parents, school, and even friends just to have me time. Today is the best day anyone can ask for. My reason, no homework. That is the best gift you can obtain on your 18 birthday.  I’m driving out of Atlanta, Georgia once school ended so I can head to Florida. Florida the hottest place in the US, sweat dripping from people once they feel the sun rays on their skin. Winters but are they really winters, more like a breeze here and there. Florida is the worst place, but it can be doable with my father there.  My parents got divorce when I was eight. Things weren’t working out like they should between couples. Now it has been ten years since I last seen my father. I’m nervous to say but also excited to see what he looks like. Does he still have his black hair or is it gray? Does he still hold the love that I always ran too?  I was always a daddy’s little girl, but my mom got custody of me.  It’s getting dark at night, but the full moon is shining a path for me to go. People say when it’s the full moon that crazy things happen, but I was never the type of person to believe those tales. To me the moon is a beautiful thing to look at and a great source of light for driving. Turning my head to the side I feel the trees slowing down but me being me I don’t question it. The car starts moving slowly by each passing second and I'm starting to get worried. A second later the car stops and turns off. I take the key out of the hole and place it back in. Turning the key to start the engine but I receive no answer. Maybe the car ran out of gas, but it couldn't. Before I left, I filled the tank to the top. "Oh no, oh no, oh no! Why me? Of course, this has to happen on my birthday. Murphy’s law is always with me. Why did the dam car have to stop", I say out loud. I take out my phone and dial my father's number so maybe he can pick me up. I press the call button, but I hear no ringing in the background. I look at my phone confused then I see I have no bars. No bars means no signal, oh great. I open my car door and get out to look around. Looking around all I see is the road with and trees lining up next to the street.  Well I guess it is time to start walking and find a gas station, I thought. Feeling the breeze of the cold night air I shiver. Not a cold shiver but a frightening chill that sends shivers through my spine.  "Come on now Davina, no one is there. Just keep walking and the faster you find a gas station, the faster you can see dad." I repeat these words to keep on going but I have this feeling that something will go wrong. While walking on the street I hear a noise. I whip my head so fast that I thought I will get a whiplash. Turning my full body around to face where the noise came from, I take a small step forward. "Hello, is anyone there", I call out to no one particular. I receive no answer. With that in mind my curiosity gets the best of me and I start walking to the noise. Going past by the first tree, I see nothing. "Huh, I'm so stupid. That noise must have come from an animal." I turn back around to go back on the street but before I do, I hear a voice. "You know what they say sweetheart, curiosity killed the cat" I didn't have time to register the voice before I felt pain erupting through my head. Falling to the ground black spots cover my vision.
