Blurb

It has been centuries since she had last seen him and even after so long she still feels the butterflies in her stomach and her knees go weak for him. However, there is more anger then love in those eyes of his and she can't blame him after leaving that note behind. If only he knew that she had to do that to protect him, but she can't tell him that. The future was sure on that from what she could see. Being someone that sees a future is a rare gift that those will take for granted. She just hopes that he will eventually forgive her before it's too late.

Seeing her again was just like it was back in the days, but the anger was hard not to show. She had left him and he had to pick up the pieces she had left behind and here she is acting like it is something to look past. He didn't feel he could place his heart on a line again, even if it seemed impossible not to with her. Somehow she had a way of sucking him in with no problem regardless of the girls he brought back home. He didn't care about her gift like the others, he had cared about her more than that. But why won't she let him in and tell her why she left before it becomes too late.

Chapter 1
Evie She could smell the blood; it was impossible not to. It floated around the room like a perfume penetrating the stale musty air around her. The problem was, there were no screams, but death loomed and clung to the air. The worst part was she was trapped within this god-forsaken dark room thanks to Elizabeth. Now she could only wait and ponder what was happening since the little devil had left, locking the door securely behind her like always. Whatever it was to make Elizabeth leave in such a hurry had been bizarre. Still, Elizabeth managed to ensure she was securely chained up and locked within the confines of this room with no escape. When a clicking sound met her ears, she watched the doorknob start to turn and waited for what was coming. She hadn’t even realized she had been holding her breath before it rushed out upon seeing him. “Julius.” The name flowed off her tongue as she saw the man she hadn’t expected to be here. He looked exactly as she remembered him. His ebony hair was short on the sides, yet just a tad longer on top. He was clean shaven with a strong jaw and those ice-blue eyes remained as sharp and wise as she recalled. He easily stood taller than her and appeared to be in a nice suit without a string out of place. Always the regal man, regardless of what time he lived in. Someone would think a seer like her would have been able to predict this, but she wasn’t completely surprised, since Julius knew about her abilities and the short falls they had. There was a look of success that crossed his face. “Finally, I’ve found you. My sincerest apologies dear that it took so long to come save you.” He moved forward with the elegance he always had. Coming to stand before her, she looked up into those ice-blue eyes. Holding out her wrists, she wondered if he would be able to get these cuffs off. “She had the key, otherwise they are not very easy to get out of. She made sure they were made to weaken me, and no vampire strength could remove them.” At her words he snapped his fingers and another individual she recognized came in. Thomas. He had only changed his appearance slightly. He used to wear his hair longer and braided like Erik did, but it appeared that he had it cut and with only six inches of length now. The way he had it slicked back from his face yet slightly wild was in essence how Thomas was. The slight scruffiness around his face was also new, but again fit him well. Then she peered into those chocolate eyes which still held the warmth she remembered. That made her happy, knowing that he was still the same man from so long ago. When he moved someone in front of him, pushing them to kneel before him, she shift her gaze to the individual bound and gagged before them. It was the devil herself. “Julius and I thought you would want to be part of this.” A nod and a satisfied smile formed on her face as she saw the panic and fear that showed in Elizabeth’s eyes. Images played in her mind, showing the outcome of this and what would follow shortly after. Looking at the different angles, she could see certain dangers that would become a possibility, but none would be compared to if she lived. No, those images held many individuals dying, and one showed the image she feared the most. That proved to be all it took for her to make her decision. Leaning down, she moved one hand to her chest knowing she hid the key within the confines of her dress. There, she knew held a small pocket that was just clever enough hidden by her breasts. Grabbing that key, she continued to keep her gaze locked with Elizabeth’s while she unlatched her chains. Once they dropped from her wrists she could feel her energy returning to her and, for once, didn’t feel like a weakened child. Still, she did need blood desperately. Elizabeth had made sure to only feed her enough to keep her alive, never enough to keep her from feeling the tinge of hunger that constantly plagued her. She could feel her teal eyes glow as she watched Elizabeth. “Thank you, Thomas. Don’t worry. Your death shall be fast. I don’t want any more time wasted with you.” Picking Elizabeth up from the front of her dress, she placed her other hand to force Elizabeth’s throat to be displayed to her. Without a second of delay, she shifted her lengthened teeth and tore into Elizabeth’s flesh. Though it wasn’t the best blood to taste, she couldn’t help but close her eyes as the hunger pains she always felt slowly started to fade. Elizabeth tried to stop her, tried to struggle to be free of her grip, but she held with a new strength while fear flowed out of Elizabeth. She didn’t realize just how little blood she had been given to survive and realized how much she had been missing from her diet. She only realized just how hungry she had been as she drained Elizabeth of her blood and memories that followed. Images flooded her mind, but they were easy enough to push to the wayside and into the mental chest she had created for memories such as these. Though she was drained, this wouldn’t kill her. She was a vampire after all, and a master at that. Dropping her cold body from her grasp, she walked over to the handcuffs and then placed them on her wrists as a just in case measure and then took the key for herself. As if knowing what she was thinking, Julius moved over to the body and, with a deadly gleam in his eye, he removed the blade he carried everywhere from its sheath and with deadly speed and accuracy removed Elizabeth’s head from her body. Just like that, the bond and tie she had shared with Elizabeth shattered and she for once in her life, felt free as she fell to her knees. Tears came to her eyes that she couldn’t seem to stop, and Julius stood before her offering a hand to her. “Evie, my dear, I’m sorry it took so long to make you free from that parasite.” Taking his hand, he helped lift her back to her feet and move out of the room. “Can you please burn this place with her and everyone else in it.” At Julius’s nod, they all moved out of the room and then the mansion that laid within this secluded area of the forest. She had smelled the gasoline and watched as people held gasoline containers and poured it on the outside of the house and through the house now. A couple of cars were off in the distance and she figured they must be Julius’s. Just what she would expect too. Black SUVs that would blend in anywhere one went. Not high end expensive, but a vehicle that would get someone to where they needed to go. Once she reached the car, she smelled the match be lit and turned to watch as someone threw the match at the mansion and it was engulfed in fire rapidly. “Let’s get going shall we? Those few will stay and ensure all is burnt to a crisp. Plus, I feel you are wishing to have a nice shower and normal clothes on for once.” At Julius’s words, she peered down and realized what she was wearing wasn't like what they all wore. She had grown accustomed to the large plain white shirt she had been given to wear. Honestly, she had lost her care for what she wore. It wasn’t like Elizabeth permitted anyone near her, only herself and a few she trusted. It was why she was only given a shirt and a pair of girls’ boxer briefs to wear. Although the shirt was big, so no one noticed the boxer briefs underneath. “I guess I just forgot about something as trivial as clothes.” Thomas gave her a strange look while she shrugged her shoulders at him. “Well, it is better in this century. Before this, I was forced to wear an uglier dress with nothing else. This is a far better upgrade from that time. Plus, it wasn’t like many saw me other than a few people she trusted. She wouldn’t let many near me or even see me. Though clothes would be nicer. I am no shrew, but it would be nice to wear something more for once. I do like this centuries' clothes from what I have seen Elizabeth wear.” “Have you been out in the world at all?” Thomas’s question caused her to shake her head. Thomas opened the door to the back for her and then he moved to go to the front to be able to drive while Julius had located himself to sit beside her. “No, she transferred me many times, but never in a public way. I was to be kept hidden at every possibility, which is why secluded areas were her favorite spots. I have been to too many different locations and honestly I have lost track of them all or even where I am.” “You’re in Russia, my dear.” This time Julius spoke and as she thought it through, she figured with the weather it must be summer, meaning it had to be sometime in either July or August. The day and year, though, eluded her a little. She may be a seer, but that made it more difficult at times to know that type of information. “By the way, Erik is doing well.” At his words her head snapped to Julius and she saw the smirk on his face. “Don’t worry, I plan on taking you with us.” “Julius, I appreciate you for freeing me from Elizabeth, but I know you are also a Sire and Master of your area.” At his prodding eyes she shook her head. “I tried not to see things, but it was difficult. That’s why I am surprised that you are here at all. Usually, I could foresee your arrival and then Elizabeth would drink my blood to know. That is when we would be relocated. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop it. Those types of visions are impossible to rid myself of or hide them from her.” Julius nodded in understanding. “I had figured after the last few attempts had come up sour. I had to wait a lot longer this last time. Honestly, this time was beyond luck, my dear one. It so happened to be that I found myself in Russia today and caught wind of her here and before I could even think I made us leave at once and then ensure I constantly changed my mindset. No one with me knew what was happening, so it was just hoping that such a plan would work. Your gift has downfalls and I knew with a constant change of plans it might work out. That’s how Elizabeth got you as well, isn’t it?” It was as she had expected to some degree. Luck played a part too and she was eternally grateful it was on her side for once. Once Julius finished, she shook her head. “It was in some ways, but more like in each vision, I saw her killing Erik and I wouldn’t allow that to happen. She had found my weakness with him and knew how to exploit it without having to do anything.” Understanding dawned in Julius's eyes and when she looked in the review mirror to see Thomas, the same look reflected there. “We figured you would never abandon us.” Looking back to Julius she smiled, knowing she would never had left if she didn’t have to. “However, Erik didn’t feel that way. He was torn up that you didn’t trust him and wanted to be with your sire finally, especially with that note you left him.” Sighing, she looked down as she clutched her hands in her shirt. “I had to leave him the note. If I didn’t, his end was impossible to steer away from, and I couldn’t live with that. Elizabeth promised to leave him be if I came back to her and followed her orders. That is what I did and thanks to that he is still alive as I had seen possible.” “You knew it would take centuries for you to escape.” “I saw it a long time ago that there were paths that seemed to be set in stone with me when I had escaped Elizabeth the first time.” A smile played on her face. “I didn’t know the exact date or where I was, only that you came eventually, and Erik would be alive. That is all that mattered to me. Since it was a prophecy that was before I was retrieved by Elizabeth, I could easily hide the memory deep within many more that were popping up constantly. I learned she only had a talent for fresher memories, which is why it was hard to hide anything more from her. She found out I knew and started to drink from me three to four times a day. It ensured she got everything she thought she needed. She never had patience to learn to hone that skill which I am thankful for.” A chuckle escaped Julius. “Here I was thinking you never saw it coming.” “Well, I didn’t see it coming at all today. Just centuries ago, and honestly, I didn’t even think about it until now.” Looking at Julius, she let herself look to the future with Erik. It was not too far off from this time because it was a future with him seeing her again. They were within a kitchen and the anger was evident within his eyes, but something else laid deep as well in them. Then it vanished like they did, and she was looking at Julius again. “What is it you saw?” Julius was curious and she suspected he knew what she had looked for. “I wanted to see him again and I saw when we shall see one another again.” There was a questioning gaze from both the men. “Yes, he’s angry, but if he’s alive that is what I care about the most.” She didn’t want to tell them she thought there was still some love in his eyes. She didn’t want to get her hopes up. A hand was placed on hers and she looked at Julius. “We were all devastated that you left us, but Erik took it the hardest. He disappeared for a while, and I let him. I knew he needed the space to think. Thomas and I both realized then that you both are mates.” The words shocked her. She had known that but hadn’t figured they would know about it. That is why she never allowed them to share blood once, though Erik had wanted to. It didn’t help that she didn’t want Erik to know how she had been treated before they had found her either. Those memories were impossible to shed and hid. Elizabeth loved to laugh at those memories that surfaced. “It’s good the bond was never created fully though. I think it would have driven him mad not finding you.” A nod came from her. “Yes, that is possible, though I wouldn’t have been able to allow it at that time. I was still too scared by Elizabeth to let him see any of my memories. When I thought I was brave enough, it was too late.” Again, Julius showed her the understanding look that a father would give a child. That was how it was. Julius was a powerful Master now and much older than her. How his kindness stayed intact she was unsure of. “When you went with Elizabeth was when you finally realized your strength and bravery.” A nod from her and he patted her head. “Ah, what a young one you were. Still so much to learn, though I’m guessing you have been doing such for some time. There is wisdom in those eyes now.” Julius was so easy to be comfortable around, though she knew many feared him. “Yes, when one is left alone you have plenty of time to look into different futures. Though I was given books at times to read. It helped me stay preoccupied and allowed the surprise visions to pop up better from what she believed since they came more often during those times.” She still didn’t believe it, but she had been glad to do something besides sit there and wait while the visions overcame her mind. It could be overwhelming at times and make one go crazy. “Here’s a silly thought. Why not just explain this to Erik?” Of course, Thomas would say something like that which made her smile with a sad look. “I’ve seen him with another woman, Thomas, and I don’t want to take that away from him, especially if he is happy like I’ve seen he is with her. It hurts, but I do wish him to be happy. Plus, I don’t know how I feel about him knowing I chose this to save him.” Looking out the window of the car, she watched the trees pass by as Thomas drove them from the fire, from that life and to her new freedom. Julius's voice came through then. “I know you are free now, but I wish to have you with us again. Of course, you may have your freedom, but I do wish for you to work for me. I will ensure you are protected. Your gift is very important, and I know there are those that will be a little upset over Elizabeth’s death and will look for what caused it. I’m also sure those she trusted with your whereabouts were not all here tonight and will seek you out as well. It would be much better to protect you in my territory. Many will not come in trying to start something with me, or at least very few will.” There laced in his eyes was determination to protect her like he tried so long ago. “I will not let it happen a second time, Evie, and you know I will not use you like such.” Smiling softly, she nodded to him. “I would love to be with you all again. I felt like I was home for once and I know you will never use me, but I wish to help you any way I can. It will not bother me to show you the visions I have if needed. I will also like to get back to learning to fight again. It has been a long time since I have felt like I am strong enough to try it.” “That is easy enough. Thomas will train you and so will I. I’m hoping eventually we will be able to get Erik to train you and maybe then we can get him to get over this anger on his own. We will make sure to keep your secrets until you are ready to share them, won’t we Thomas?” She couldn’t help but laugh at the patronizing look Julius gave to his pupil, who was not happy about it. “Yes Sire. I won’t tell him, though I will say now that hiding it is stupid.” A quick vision came and went, and it was brief enough to know it wasn’t exactly true what Thomas said. “No, I think it won’t be as stupid as you expect it to be. Though it will be nice staying with you for a while.” The look Thomas gave her was priceless. Then he looked over to Julius for more information. “What is she talking about staying with me?” “Oh, didn’t I mention you will be her guardian and protector during all this, so you will have to take her with you. It won’t be a problem as she will be joining the enforcement team as well. She can’t stay with me as many would question it too easily. She will be staying with you. The neighborhood you live in is relatively safe and not many people focus too much on others. Your neighbors mainly keep to themselves and are gone at the same time as you are. You can just mention to your human neighbors she is a relative that is moving in with you for a while. For the rest of them, tell them she is newly turned. Her fighting skills might show it for the time being, her slight accent isn’t as noticeable with English. You can easily say she is from another country, which is true. She was from Greece after all, they just don’t need to know what time.”
