Fated

7 years ago my family was murdered by giant animals with glowing eyes (sombre, I know).  No one believed me and I had no one, so I have spent the last 7 years on the street.  It has been trying and miserable and I probably would have killed myself if it wasn't for my purpose. I made a vow to myself when I had to dig 3 graves, one for my mother, father and brother, I vowed that I would find the animals with glowing eyes.  I will find the people who murdered my family.  *** I groan as I wake up, the sun glaring and blinding me. There is a face scowling down at me, "We're going to be late!" the person says with an irritated edge to his voice, I now recognise this person as Aspen, the person who has looked after me the past 7 years, I call him a friend but he thinks of himself as more of a guardian it is a little bit odd, I must admit but he has kept me alive so I am grateful to him.  Aspen hates being late to... anything! I check the time on the giant clock outside of the town hall, s**t it is already 8:19 am and school starts at 8:20.  Aspen and I were picked off the street to be the local school's "charity project" they thought it would make them look better if they educated people who couldn't get an education. I have to admit, it's a good idea, but I hate that everyone either looks at me like I'm garbage or they look at me with pity. It makes me feel helpless, just like I was on the night my family was murdered.  I shake my head, trying to get rid of the thoughts of that night. I look up at Aspen and smile and he scoffs but I see a small smile tugging at his lips. He never can be mad at me long.  I pack my stuff, which takes like 1 minute because I don't have much. We then make our way towards school. Aspen quizzes me on math questions because that is the subject I struggle with and he knows it. Aspen is a natural genius and he is quite athletic too, I think he would attract lots of girls if it weren't for the criss-cross scar that ran from each of his ears and crossed over in the middle of his lips.  He got it when he was protecting me from a drunk who... dragged me down an alley and... and tried to rape me.  He would of if it weren't for Aspen who had heard my screams and had run in to protect me, but unfortunately for him, the drunk who attacked me had a dagger hidden in his boot.  I'm dragged from my thought train by walking straight into a pole, I can hear Aspen's muffled laughter. I glare at him, shooting daggers and he puts his hands up in surrender and mumbles an apology, it's my turn to laugh now.  We arrive at school and Aspen turns to me, "Remember, do not leave without me. You must not go anywhere without me. It's dangerous out there for you," he uses his hand to gesture to the street. He says this every day, it's been like this since he saved me. I give Aspen a curt nod and as I walk to class I roll my eyes. *** After school, I can't find Aspen and decide to head home without him, like what could happen?  The walk to our place under the bridge is pretty uneventful until I get there. I freeze as soon as I see what is happening under the bridge, the hairs on my neck stand up. There is Aspen and... and a giant wolf with glowing eyes under the bridge!  Hi there! This is my first story so I hope you guys like it, this chapter was pretty uneventful but I have lots planned so I hope you decide to continue reading! :)
