Chapter 1: The 'New' Girl
Lexi’s POV I look over to my best friend, Peter who has been sitting on my bathroom counter for like 15 minutes trying to fix his hair for this party. I laugh as I walk in to put on some mascara, “b***h, you have been messing with your hair for so long.”  He glares, “Babe, I need to look good tonight.” I smirk, “Oh, is he going to be there tonight?” He is this mysterious guy that Peter has been hooking up with for the last few weeks but still hasn’t told me his name.  Peter and I have been best friends for our entire lives because he is the son of my Aunt Meghan and Uncle Austin. He came out to me and our other best friend Maddy when we were like 12 but he didn’t come out to everyone else for another 3 years. I felt horrible I wasn’t there to support him when he came out to his parents and older sisters, but he said that they handled it well and his two sisters said they already knew.  Peter’s cheeks were a shade of pink and he bashfully replied, “Maybe.”  I laugh, “You better point him out to me tonight. Now how do I look?” He looked at my outfit which consisted of black short shorts, grey vans, and a teal crop top that make my boobs look amazing and showed off my belly button ring, my hair is also straightened and I got some makeup on. “b***h, you look hot!”  I smile, “Good, I only get one chance to make a good impression.”  My family moved away two years ago to Texas when my dad was stationed there but he reassigned back to Arlington, Virginia. This is great because I get to be back with my two best friends. My uncle Austin joined the FBI back when I was 3 so they all moved to Virginia, while Maddy is the daughter of one of my dad’s marine buddies, Luke so they live on base. No one really knows besides Maddy and Peter that I moved back, I wasn’t planning on keeping it a secret it just sort of happened. Also, the only people I really cared for were the two of them especially after Jason Humpherfy and his gang of jocks and bimbos made my life hell in middle school. Jace and I were friends but in 6th grade he started a rumor about me which led to his group bullying me all of middle school.  I wasn’t the greatest looking in middle school, I was awkward, to say the least. I was short, by the time I got into 8th grade I was only 5 foot. I was a little overweight with glasses, braces, and acne. There were a few reasons for people to make fun of me, especially because I wasn’t like a lot of the girls in my class. I was too focused on softball and school instead of makeup and boys. However, now I look nothing like that. Puberty hit me like a bus. I grew about 6 inches, so now my is the shortest in the family again. I also lost some weight after I really got into working out and the weight I didn’t lose went to my boobs and butt. My braces came off right before I moved and your girl got herself some contacts. Let's just say, I don’t look like Alexis Kay Walker from middle school and you might have to do a double-take when you see me to realize I am her.  Peter smirks and pokes my right boob, “Girl, you will definitely be doing that.” I laugh as the two of us leave my bathroom and bedroom to head to the party. Maddy won’t be at the party tonight because her family is on vacation right before school starts. Junior year will be starting in a week and I guess Daisy Rivers is throwing a party to kick off the school year. It is kind of ironic since it was her party in 6th grade that Jacey and I stopped being friends.  Peter and I head down my stairs and find my mom in the kitchen making dinner.  “Hi, Mom!” “Hi, Aunt Kaylie!” My mom turns around and smiles, “You kids have fun tonight. Also Lexi, you better take care of my favorite little nephew.”  I roll my eyes, “Will do, mom!” I swear my mom loves Peter more than me and my older brother Phil. Phil is a senior and is named after my late grandpa, who died when my mom was a senior. I love my mom though because she is super understanding and knows what it is like to be a high schooler. Peter and I walk out of my house and start walking towards Daisy’s house. She only lives a few blocks away so there is no reason in driving since the two of us will probably be drinking.  The two of us arrive at the party and it is in full swing. People are drinking, smoking, and making out everywhere. The moment I walked into the house I saw a few guys checking me out, because to some I am the new girl, especially those that went to a different middle school than most of us.  Peter and I walk towards the living room and a girl named Brenda Jones instantly recognizes me, she was nice to me. She runs over clearly drunk giving me a hug, “OMG, Lexi you are back!”  I laugh, “Yup, I moved back a few weeks ago.” She giggles and starts telling some people around us who I am and I say hi to a few people I was friends with in middle school and meet a couple of new people.  Peter and I say goodbye to them and head to the kitchen to get some drinks. As I am grabbing a beer I notice a tall blonde male who is really cute glaring at me. At first I thought he was glaring at me because he was with Jason and his friends, but I don’t know who this kid is. Then I notice him looking sadly at Peter and the fact my arm is linked with him. Oh, now I get it.  I laugh and turn away from blondey and face Peter smirking. He looks at me confused, “What?” I laugh and say, “So is mystery guy the blonde hanging out with Jason and them.”  Peter looks slightly past me and then back at me biting his lip and nods. I smile, “So who is he?”  Peter takes a drink of his beer and pulls me slightly away from some people to tell me, “His name is Cameron Hick, he went to a different middle school than us. Also, he isn’t out of the closet yet.”  I sigh hoping this guy isn’t like Jason and his friends, “I hope he isn’t using you.”  Peter shakes his head and smirks “Nah, if anything, I’m using him. Daddy has been teaching him a few moves. And let’s just say he has finally perfected them.” I die of laughter, Peter has never held anything back.  I laugh, “Man, I am envious of your s*x life.”  He laughs, “How were those Texas boys?” I smirk, “Well, everything is bigger in Texas.”  Peter places his arm around me and laughs, “Oh, babe I know. Visiting you last summer with Mads was amazing.”  I smack his arm, “I forget how much of a w***e you are.”  He laughs, “Nah, Maddy is the w***e, I’m just being like every other gay out there. When you look this good, you gotta work it.” Gosh, I love Peter and he isn’t lying about Maddy, she likes to sleep around but we love her anyway.  I finish my beer and grab the two of us shots, and I notice that Cameron kid every so often looks towards Peter. I think this whole thing might be more than just s*x, well at least for Cameron. Peter and I take our shots before going to dance and have fun at the party.  **** I have been at this party for a couple of hours and I luckily haven’t run into Jason yet. I might have been avoiding him because I can’t stand the kid. Peter is dancing and I decide that I need some water because it is getting hot in this packed house.  I walk over to the kitchen and grab some water. I decided to stay there for a bit since it is cooler there. After a minute I heard a voice I really was hoping not to hear. He says to me, “Hey new girl, can I get you a drink.”  I look up from my phone and my hazel eyes lock on to his crystal blue ones. He is taller than the last time I saw him and he is more muscular too. His dark brown hair is spiked slightly on the top and the sides are faded. There is no doubt he is attractive and he is more attractive than he was in middle school. But he is an asshole. I lift my water and try to act uninterested, “I already have one.”  His face drops slightly before he smirks, “How about a dance then beautiful.”  I shake my head, “Sorry, I don’t go for arrogant assholes.”  He furrows his brows, “Um, you don’t know me, so how do you know if I am an asshole.” I take a sip of my water, “But I do know you, Jason Edward Humphery. Let’s see you were born on October 28th, you are the captain of the baseball team, you act like you don’t care about school when you actually do, your father is a Marine and your mom is a middle school teacher, and you have two younger sisters that you absolutely adore. Do you want me to keep going or do you get the point?” He stares at me shocked and a few of his friends like Justin and Zach join him in the kitchen. Oh, look asshole number 2 and 3. Jason opens his mouth and closes it again clearly confused before saying, “How do you know all of that?” I laugh, “You really don’t know who I am, do you?”  He shakes his head, “Am I supposed to?” I smirk, “Nope.” Then I walk up to him and whisper into his ear, “But I will give you a hint, I know the truth about your first kiss.” I lean back away and wink at him and say “Now, I am going to go dance with a guy whose ego isn’t bigger than his d**k. See you around Jacey.” Again, Jason just stares at me confused. I smirk to myself and walk towards Peter who has been watching this whole thing happen. Peter laughs, “Did you just tell Humphery off.”  I smile, “Oh, you know it, babe.” I grab his hand and the two of us go back to dancing.  *** Jason’s POV I watch the new girl walk away from me confused as ever. But I did stare slightly at her ass as she walked away. I turn back around and I see Zach and Justin laughing at me.  I flip them off before saying, “Shut up, I have seen the two of you get turned down by girls all the time.”  Zach, “Yeah, but that girl straight told you off.”  I groan and grab a beer, “Who the hell even is she?”  Justin shrugs and looks over to her who is now dancing with Peter Ross. His eyes go wide and he turns back around looking at us like he saw a ghost. “Oh my God, that is Lexi.” I look at him confused and Zach seems to already figure out who that is, but I haven’t as I ask, “Lexi who?” Zach, “Lexi, like Alexis Walker.”  I shake my head, “Alexis moved away 2 years ago” and I look over to the girl who is supposedly Lexi, “And Walker was short, fat, and ugly.” This girl was none of those things. She was gorgeous and has an amazing body. Okay maybe that was mean, but that is what everyone said. If I am being honest, I never thought Lexi was ugly, I always thought she was cute and I did have a little crush on her when we were younger. But I chose to be popular over being her friend. A lot of girls didn’t like her because she was friends with all the guys in our class because she wasn’t like most girls. Now it hits me why she knew the truth about my first kiss. I told everyone that I kissed this girl during the summer before 6th grade but in reality that was a lie, I just wanted to sound cool. Lexi and I were both at Daisy’s party in 6th grade and this girl Sam who didn’t like Lexi dared me to play 7 minutes with Heaven with Lexi. She only said Lexi because she was trying to make fun of her. I remember sitting in the closet with Lexi and I told her the truth and I asked her if I could kiss her because I didn’t want to be living a lie anymore. I kissed her and she became my first kiss as well as my first makeout, we were in there for 7 minutes and I wanted to try it. Neither one of us knew what we were doing but it was okay. Lexi promised to keep it a secret and she did. But after that, I ruined our friendship because everyone was bugging me to know what happened and I made fun of her. I said she was a bad kisser and her breath smelled. After that, a lot of things spiraled and me making fun of her became the norm. I wanted to be popular and I sacrificed our friendship to do that.  I snap out of my thoughts when I hear Zach say, “Yeah, well not anymore. Now she is Sexy Lexi. Puberty hit her like a freight train”  I think to myself, she can think I am an asshole but I am going to fix that. Okay, maybe I just want to get with her and that won’t happen if she thinks I am an asshole. I smirk, “I think it is time for some truth or dare.”  Justin laughs, “Is this a repeat of 6th grade?” I laugh, “I need to know if she is a better kisser now.”
