Priya is a survivor. She survived a fire, that burnt down her home, but she it didn't leave her unscathed. It left her with a fire burn at her temple, and a memory of man that keeps hunting her dreams. A memory none believes and that earned her years of therapy. She learned to say the things that are required and smile when required. Maybe if she tells them often enough, it'll make her normal. Despite the shadows that persistently guide her path, the flames that burn brighter as she passes, the smokey figures that take shape at the corner of her eyes. As more and more ominous signs make her question her own sanity, she has to make a call, to cling to the shadow of the past, or reach out for the hand offered. Will she find the mate she sought all her life or will she pay the price for her stubborn hope and faith in a world beyond what we see.

8 years ago *Shade* Glorious heat engulfed me as I emerged from the fire. I delighted in the flames feasting on the stairs, claiming the walls of the old house, but my head felt light, my body airy and translucent. Disappointment rushed through me but only for a moment, for the destruction around me revived my eagerness to see more. Power cursed through my veins, spreading out the tips of my fingers dropping in fat bubbles of heat onto the spots of carpet not yet victim to the fire. For a long while, I soaked in the chaos that enticed me to leave my customary world in the first place, it was a long while since I last prayed on the cacophony of human emotions, so deliciously strong in this place. Even stronger in the lower floor, near the door, so I followed the flavor of disbelief and horror, floating through the blazing inferno, brushing the charred remains of the stairs with my shadowy tendrils I descended to the hall. A young female, at the verge of blossoming into a woman stood there, her one hand on the door knob, her large eyes reflecting the dancing orange lights while she attempted to make sense of the scene, the fall of her life as she knew it. Kids’ emotions were always the strongest, but they had a sour overtone that coated the tongue for months; I tended to avoid them, thus I started to fade out, when her gaze reached me. For the first time since my curse, I felt my legs anchor, the shadows leaving my form, and my feet touching the ground. I could feel my weight, my muscles shifted in my body and I was real, part of this reality. That girl, she must be my escape. My eyes latched onto her face, studying each inch, and my mouth curled into a satisfied smirk. I reached out my palm and observed with growing confidence as her gaze dropped to my palm, her hand twitching forward and her palm almost leaving the knob of the door. As in trance, she shifted, and I could almost feel her touch on me, when I noticed the white smoke slip into the house, curling around her waist and drag her out of the house. My body instantly started to fall apart, slipping from reality, and losing substance. I could not let her go! With my last effort I flicked my fingers, a burst of fire erupting from me and splashing against her left temple. With my waning conscience I watched my mark appear on her skin, and her name formed in my mind. Contentedness tainted my words, as I called her name, laced with a promise, for she has the key to my salvation: I’ll come for you. Finally…
