Wind flowed alongside the running wolf pup. Yips of joy rang throughout the forest as another two pups joined the race. They tumbled over each other, muddying themselves as they played. They nipped at each other's heals with no real intention of harming each other. It was all fun and games. Play fighting was part of the pups' day to day life. It helped forge bonds between them and set up a base for fighting. Soon the pups were rolling around in the mud and moss, all thoughts of chase forgotten. Suddenly, one of the pups stilled. A strange scent was in the air. A scent that did not belong to the pack. Confused the pups huddled closer together. They were still in the pack lands; all smells should be familiar. A small whine escaped a pup’s mouth. Out of the darkness emerged four grown wolves. Two were a light brown mixed with grey, while one was tall and dark grey, the last was a shadowy black. They’d encircled the unsuspecting pups and were now approaching, a snarl on their lips. They forced the pups into a tight triangle. One pup was still quietly whining, another was rendered paralysed in fear, the third pup strangely took an offensive stance as if it would be able to battle four rogue wolves. In an attempt to intimidate, the pup let out a tiny growl. At this two of the rogues exchanged a look, as if they could communicate. A silent conversation went on between the two. The braver pup took this as an opportunity to try and escape, but as it tried moving one of the wolves snapped at it, revealing sharp canines. Retreating back into the triangle the pups began to shake. Out of nowhere a large brown and black wolf, clearly an Alpha, came charging into one of the rogues. Following behind came another two wolves ready to drive out or kill the bold rogues. They weren’t close to the edge of the pack lands which meant these rogues had come looking for trouble. As the Alpha of the pack attacked, the rogues retaliated, blood spilled over the petrified pups. Unbeknownst to the others the black wolf had slunk back into the shadows, observing and waiting for the right moment. In a moment of chaos, the wolf pounced forward and grabbed the boldest pup by the scruff of its neck. The pup yelped in pain. The moment of distraction cost the Alpha valuable time, as the nearby rogue slashed its paw across the Alpha’s face ripping out an eye. The Alpha howled in pain as blood sputtered from the wound. The two other wolves, angered and protective, doubled in force and killed the rogues in a matter of seconds to rush to their Alpha’s side, killing the third rogue in the process. As the Alpha lifted his head, he saw the tail of his enemy disappear into the depths of the forest.
