Chapter 1 Lydia
Lydia Wilson was your average girl with long brown hair and honey colored eyes. Everyone was always commenting that she looks just like her mother. She was lying in her new bed, in her new house, thinking about the day ahead. She knew she had to get up and get ready. Today was the first day of school in a new town. “Lydia if you do not get up now and get ready you will be late,” her mother yelled from the kitchen downstairs.     “I’m getting ready now, mom,” Lydia said to her mom, while still in the bed. She dragged herself out of bed and walked to the closet. She was trying to find something to wear, she wanted to look good on her first day at a new school. First impressions and all. She decided to wear the dress her mom got her for her birthday last month. It was white knee length with blue and pink flowers on it. She absolutely loved it. She grabbed the dress, put it on the bed, and went to the bathroom across the hall to get ready. She washed her face, brushed her teeth, and did the other daily things she needed to do to get ready for the day. She went back to her room to get dressed. After she was done she headed downstairs. “Good morning Mom and Dad,” she sung happily. She loved her parents because she and her parents had a great relationship, always trusting her and supporting anything Lydia wanted to do. Her mom was sitting at the table, sipping her coffee and talking with Lydia’s dad. “Morning sweetie, are you ready for your first day of school,” her mom asked Lydia.     “Honestly, I am a little nervous. New school and everything. I have never been the new kid before. I don’t know what to expect,” Lydia said. Her dad replied, “Lydia everything will be fine. Just keep your head up and say ’I, Lydia, can do anything I set my mind too.’” That was their family motto. She stood up, grabbed her bag and bagel, and left. As she was driving to school she was thinking how she loved her new car, it was a birthday gift from her parents. She had to arrive early because she had to go by the office to grab her class schedule. She parked the car, grabbed her bag and sprinted to the front of the school.     As she was rushing to get to the office on time, she didn’t seem to notice anyone coming around the corner of the building until it was too late and nearly fell backwards but before she had the chance to fall, she felt a hand grab onto her arm to steady her. She finally looked up and saw the most gorgeous boy ever. He was tall with the greenest eyes you had ever seen. She was absolutely speechless. Lydia started stuttering, “I-I am sorry.” He looked at her with concern and asked “Are you alright?” She gathered herself and said “Yes, I think so. Thank you.” The guy said,” I am just glad you weren’t hurt. I am sorry but I have to go. Try to be careful, alright?” She nodded and continued to the office to grab her schedule.             Mrs. Daily, the office secretary greeted Lydia with a good morning and asked her to wait because someone was coming to guide her to her first class. Lydia sat in a chair near the door. She looked around and saw a clock on the wall opposite to her. It said 8:10. Class has already started. Finally the door opened and in walked a girl with bright blonde shoulder length hair, and said “Mrs. Daily I am here to show the new kid to her class. Where is she?” Mrs. Daily said “Thanks for coming Samantha, she is sitting right there by the door.” She pointed in Lydia’s direction. Lydia stood up and introduced herself to the girl, Mrs. Daily called Samantha. Samantha waved her hand and said “Ok, cool. I’m Samantha Pitchford and I volunteered to come and show you to our first period classroom. You ready?”     Lydia nodded and they both left the office after saying goodbye to Mrs. Daily. When the girls got into the hallway, Samantha was curious and began asking Lydia all sorts of questions. Where was she from? Why did she move here? Just the common get to know you questions. Lydia answered her questions honestly. She mentioned that her and her family were from the east side of Tennessee and that they had moved due to her dad’s job. They kept talking about different things.     They finally arrived at the classroom. It was World History, Lydia’s favorite subject. Samantha went in and told the teacher that she went to the office to get the new kid. The teacher, Mr. Kingsford, nodded and told them to take their seats. Lydia looked around to find an empty seat and noticed there was one right next to the gorgeous guy she ran into earlier. She couldn’t believe that they had a class together. She walked down the aisle to the empty seat and waved as she sat down next to him. He smiled and nodded. She didn’t realize she was staring at him until she heard him clear his throat. She felt embarrassed. She finally looked away and grabbed her belongings out of her bag. Mr. Kingsford got up, introduced himself to the class, and went over the syllabus. Mr. Kingsford announced that there would be a graded project that would be worth 50 percent of the class grade. It would be turned in at the end of the semester, and he would announce the teams and topics later on that week. Lydia was looking forward to it. She loved History and wanted to be a History professor after college. After a few more announcements and a few class assignments completed, the bell rang signaling to go the next class.     After her 3rd period class, Lydia was supposed to be meeting up with Samantha in the cafeteria. So far Lydia was fond of Samantha, she seemed fun and smart. Lord only knows Lydia needed a friend at school since she was new and wasn’t good making new friends. She wasn’t a loner by any means, she was just cautious. When she arrived in the cafeteria she was rushed by Samantha. Samantha said “Lydia we have the selection of meat loaf or a salad. I suggest the salad because I do not trust the meat. So, let’s get in line and grab something to eat, shall we?’  Lydia nodded and followed her new friend to the line. They got their food and were on the way back to find a seat when Lydia noticed the guy she ran into sitting with a couple of other guys she hadn’t seen before. She leaned over and asked Samantha who he was and Samantha said, “Oh him yeah, that is Trevor Sanders. He is the star quarterback and the sweetest guy ever.” Lydia was intrigued. She never really had a boyfriend before but she had several guys she crushed on. The girls found their seats and started chowing down. They only had fifteen more minutes left for lunch so they had to hurry and eat. The bell rang a short time after and they got up and headed out. Samantha asked “So, what is your next class?” Lydia said “Geometry with Ms. Landon.” Samantha said, “You will like her, she is young and straight out of school. I had her for second period.”     They got to the hallway and parted ways as they promised to wait for each after school to catch up. Lydia only had a couple more classes to go before the end of the school day. She made it to the classroom with just a few minutes to spare. She introduced herself to the teacher. Ms. Landon was sweet and thanked her. She told Lydia to sit anywhere she would like. She sat in the second row, third seat back. She waited patiently for the others to arrive. She got her notebook and pencil out and put it on her desk. As she looked up, she saw one of the guys that Trevor was sitting with walk in and stood in front of her and said “Hi.” Lydia said “Hey” back. She didn’t know why this guy was being nice, they didn’t know each other. She liked that the people here were nice. The guy sat down right in front of her. They didn’t say anything more as the tardy bell rang and Ms. Landon stood up to go over the syllabus.     Time flew by and soon it was the end of the first day school. No embarrassments other than running into the cutest boy in the entire school. She met up with Samantha in the parking lot and they talked for little while and exchanged numbers and promised to talk later. She headed home to help her dad with dinner because her mom was working late at the local clinic. She made spaghetti and garlic bread. After dinner she went upstairs to take a shower and do some homework. She couldn't concentrate much because her mind kept drifting to that Trevor guy. She laid down on the bed and started day dreaming about tomorrow and what would happen. A little while later sleep claimed her.
