The Bar
Chapter One There was a full moon casting over the small town of Darkwell. It was 2:30 am on a Saturday morning. Most places were closed except for the rundown bar on the outskirts of Welfare County. The fog was so thick that you could barely see your hand in front you.   There was a caution advisory on the news about limited visibility, but of course no one ever listened.  June 06, 2016 The Beginning To the End There were a couple of men plastered against the grey brick wall. One with a tan zip up coat and facing the alleyway, the other wearing seventies style concert shirt. They snicker towards one another , passing a pack of cigarettes back and forth talking about who was going to be their next lay.  The man with the tan coat slips something to the other man while a couple young men in their twenties fumble out of the doorway. The men watch in amusement as a few locals by the names Angelina, Sara, Nicki, and Diana ran into one another each laughing and carrying on about a couple of guys that were hitting on them.  The four of them were a sight for sore eyes. They were so drunk that they couldn’t get their words to come out properly.  The way they walked baffled the men. They didn't understand how any human being could sway around so much on six-inch-high heel shoes without breaking an ankle or falling on their asses.  Angelina pulled the keys out of her black leather jacket and handed them over to Nicki to drive. Nikki stopped dead in her tracks and swayed a couple times before she looked at Angelina up and down with her midnight blue eyes, “Why are you handing me the keys? Do you think I can drive better drunk, or you know that I don’t and are trying to get me another speeding ticket like the last time we were out together?”  “I wasn’t the one that gave the officer a nose bleed for getting too close to your...window.”  No one could help it at this point, every girl, including Nikki, started to laugh so hard that they could hardly keep their balance. Each girl begun to hold onto one another as they stand as they laughed so hard they all cried. (Everything is funny when you have a buzz from alcohol.) “No, Nicki, I promise that isn’t it. “Angelina snickers the entire time she was attempting to convince Nikki, “It’s just that you’re the only one that can drive because you had the least to drink.” “Look,” Diana said while tucking her curly black hair behind her left ear, “I really don’t give a rat's ass who drives, just get me home, I need to go f**k my husband.”  “Well, at least we know someone is getting laid tonight.” Sarah grabbed her stomach and leaned forward.”Oh, This is too funny. “Oh Dear, I think I have to piss.” The two men eventually left. They were tired of trying to get attention from the locals. The girls carried on for a few more minutes before  “Okay. Okay. Girls, act straight. There is an officer parked over there."  Nicki says. "Where?" Diana tried to straighten up as quickly as possible when she asked, but she failed miserably."I don't see anyone?" "Could you be any louder?" Nikki hissed through her teeth. "Well?" Diana looked around confused and lost. Sarah shook her head while Angela just rolled her eyes. “My God,” Angelina fussed,”You're useless when you're drunk!” She waved her hands across the streets and pointed directly at the officer “Right there, Diana. That guy. DO you see him, now? The one in the navy jacket." "Oh,” Diana got quiet and flipped her hair behind her left shoulder. She seemed to almost sober up. “Sorry,”she whispered,“I just thought he was a bum." The girls rolled their eyes and do their best to straighten up and walk normal, while Diana caught up not too far behind. Angelina takes off her heels and tucks them under her armpits, “I’ll be damned if I am messing up a good pair of stilettos just because of where you parked. I mean this is bullshit! And, why did we have to park right in front of a cop? I mean, look around us. Miles and miles of places to park but nooo-”  “Can it, Angelina.”Nikki warned. Normally, they all had more fun than this, but for some reason this night was different. Something about it was wrong. Nikki’s normal composed personality, the way she kept herself always in control was unraveling.Angelina, she was smoking more cigarettes in five minutes than she did the entire night she had partied. Diana kept telling her how bad she stunk but by the time everyone hounded her about the cop she didn’t care anymore. The only one that didn’t seem bothered was Sara. “Did you know that Art was once a sport in the Olympics once?” Diana giggled. “No, I didn’t. Thank you for letting us know.” “It is truly, very fascinating, don’t you think.” Sara wrinkles her nose “I do hope we don’t smell like Angelina when we get home.” Diana leans forward and whispers, “Me neither.” Angelina flips her head back and fussed I heard that, causing them all to giggle once more and the officer to shake his head and get in his car. Once the coast is clear, they all climb in the Ford Expedition and fasten their seat belts.  Nicki drives the opposite way through the parking lot and down E.17th Street.  Making their way out of the city and to the suburbs of Denver they pull into a store so Diana can use the restroom.  The rest of the girls head in and grab a hot fresh cup of coffee. Hoping to shake off some of the buzz they have from drinking more shots of Tequila than they should have, but they were free so why not. The buzzer on the store door chimes two girls walk in and notice Sara and Angelina.  “Hey girls, what are you up too at this hour. Shouldn’t you be home in bed?”  One girl says to them. “Yeah, but the bosses let us out of our cages tonight, so we thought we’d go start some trouble.” Sara says back. “Trouble, I have some trouble for you if your girls are up to it? I wouldn’t want to get you ladies in any trouble though being past your bedtime and all.” The other girl chimes in and says. “Okay, challenge accepted! What the hell kind of trouble? Can we join in tonight?” Diana says. “Well if you’re up to it ladies we are having a kind of let’s say interesting party at a friend’s just outside Breckenridge.  If you’d like to follow us to the party it starts in about forty five minutes.”  “Ready ladies?” Nicki asks  “Hell yeah we’re ready.” Diana says “Diana you are so drunk b***h you don’t even know where the hell you are.” Nicki tells her. They all pile into the Expedition and follow the two girls towards Breckenridge from Denver.  They pull down a long winding dirt driveway up to a single wide mobile home. Trees are sparse through the property. A big barn sets off to the right hand side a little ways back beside the old run down mobile home.  The curtains are blowing out of the windows as if air is blowing throughout the mobile home.   It is dark out, the moon light is the only light they have after shutting of the cars. The two younger girls they meet at the store get out of the car first and turn and walk towards them. “Are you sure this is a good idea Sara?” The other girls ask with a little fright in their voice. “Oh these girls are cool I have known them for a long time.  They are six years younger than me, but they have never done anything bad.  They’re cool promise.” Sara reassures the group. They all get out of the car and gather in front of Angelina’s car.  “So what is this place?” Nicki asks them. “This is the place we all come to party, and to have fun ha ha ha. Why are you girls scared?”  “No we’re not scared. I was just asking it seems to be deserted.” Angelina says back to the girl. They two girls motion for the other to follow them.  They walk away from the mobile home and across the yard till they reach a barbed wire fence. They all crawl between the wire and pass a small stable for horses. It is all open with a roof that overhangs so the rain can’t come in.  The boards are spaced so you can see the moonlight beaming through the cracks. There is a horse in one of the stalls with his head hung over the door watching us walk pass. Walking through the pasture and over a hill they see a bunch of people standing in spathic groups around.  The two girls walk up and start talking to another girl that seems to be a little upset. She is crying and ranting about something happening to her friend.  Nicki being the curious one that likes to handle the situation at hand walks up and listens to the girl.  The girl is crying frantically, acting very nervous and confused like something bad has happened. Nicki wants to say something, but decides to let the two girls take it.  They ask the girl to calm down and tell them what is going on. “I don’t know, I was with Melissa and we were walking down towards the creek when we heard something we stopped and looked around we never seen anything. I turned back to say something to her and she was gone.” “What do you mean she was gone?” Kaz one of the girls asks her. “I mean she vanished like she was never there at all.” Connie tells them. “But I found this piece of paper lying on the ground behind me where she was standing it was tied to this stick.” Connie shows them the stick and the note. “If you want to find your friend you have to play the game.” When Kaz read the note aloud the others slowly started walking towards them. They all stood behind Connie and had the strangest looks on their faces.  Kaz looks around at them and says: “What? What are you staring at?” She asks everyone. One by one they hold up a note that they received. Nicki took a gasp of air looking at the notes they had there must be another fifteen notes.  “OMG do they all say something? Did all of you lose someone tonight?” Nicki steps up and questions the others she takes the notes and reads them. “If you want to find your friend you have to play the game.” “Find the clues and you will find your friend.” They all start to chat amongst themselves all at once. Nicki is standing there with her three friends and the two girls. They’re staring at these other people wondering what is going on. Trying to make sense of all this Nicki looks over at Kaz, Alex and Connie; “What is going on here? What did you bring us too?” Nicki says with an angered voice. “I swear I didn’t know anything about this. I was sent a text message from Brad and he told me to come to the party at this address. We have been here before and this has never happened.” Kaz responds in an angered voice. Soon the two girls were face to face swinging their arms around and yelling at each other. Angelina joins in and backs up Nicki while Alex backs up Kaz. The argument starts to heat rapidly and Angelina swings at Connie. Nicki grabs her arm and holds it, but Alex didn’t stop she planted a fist right in Angelina’s nose knocking her head back and dropping her to the ground. Nicki tries to hold her up by her arm while calling Alex a f*****g b***h. Kaz turns and pushes Alex back telling her to knock it off. Nicki asks Angelina if she is ok. Out of nowhere Diana cold c***s Alex right upside the face with her fist. Diana has a little weight behind her she is a chunky girl. Alex goes flying through the air and lands passed out on the ground. Sara jumps in and yells: “Ok girls that’s enough cat fighting we have a serious problem here and fighting amongst each other is not going to get anything solved.  Now get your asses together and let’s get working on the clues to help these people. I am sure if there is notes and clues we have a time frame to do it or else. Now get your act together and cut the s**t. Nicki agrees and they all huddle around and decide to split up in groups this way more area is covered and meet back in one hour at the campfire. If someone gets lost come back to the campfire and wait. Everyone goes in their own direction.
