Blurb

21 year old Shirin didn't believe in werewolves; they only existed in cheesy YA novels as territorial shirtless guys who just growled all the time. She didn't believe in much of anything, until she found out she was one.

"So I'm going to became a rage-filled, growling ball of fur every month? And it's not optional?"

"Have you never seen a werewolf movie before?"

stargazing
"Why is there so much poetry about stars? I mean they're just flaming balls of gas up in the giant asshole of heaven? Why don't poets write about that, huh?" Livia blurted, looking up what she thought was the sky in a drunken stupor, but was actually cheap glow-in-the-dark stars scattered across the ceiling. "I don't think it would sound as pretty, Liv," I said, taking a sip of my drink. I was designated driver tonight so booze was out of the question. "I don't really see how that would be romantic either." "Maybe the right voice could make it romantic," she mused, her words slurring slightly. "Like Tom Hiddleston's voice. Mmm." "Yeah, I'm sure Jaime would love to read you some poetry about the stars," I said, now holding back my laugh as her flushed face. I looked over at the ping pong table where Jaime and his friends were playing a round of beer pong. His flitting glances didn't slip by me and neither did hers. Livia had been playing but took a break to indoor stargaze beside me. "Shut up, you dickweed. I'm going back to playing beer pong with purely scholarly intentions. You know, some pure, mathematical pursuits." I raised an eyebrow at her and she swaggered over to Jaime's side, re-joining his team. He grinned at her, clearly glad for her presence since she didn't contribute anything skill-wise. Jaime's friend, Veer who admittedly was easy on the eyes with his curling hair and easy grin, called out my name, urging me to help him win. "C'mon Shirin, I need you to take the Beer Pong Master Dundy home for the team. You're the beer pong master. I'll be your padawan." "You're lucky you're getting my help for free. I should charge." I said, rolling my eyes but joined the game anyways. "I'm one lucky bastard then, aren't I?" I shook a smile away, and tucked my hair behind my ears, leading us to victory by beating Livia and Jaime's team which I got a middle finger for from her. And a dazzling grin from Veer. Livia sidled up to me as we broke away to the kitchen. "Wow, Veer entrusted you with winning the Beer Pong Dundy? He must be really be in love with you or something." She wiggled her eyebrows. "Shut up, dickweed," I said to her, throwing the same insult back at her. She only laughed and filled her cup with more beer. I smiled despite myself - I knew he liked me but I also knew of his reputation with dating and didn't want to ruin the friendship we had. We both wanted different things and that was okay. I followed Livia onto the dancefloor where we all danced in a tipsy haze, wrapped in drunken laughs and deafening music. Before I realized, the hours slipped by, and it was nearing 1 AM. I wanted to go home but I couldn't find Liv, who was crashing in my dorm tonight. I searched the house and there was no sign of her - even Jaime had lost sight of her. Veer said he had seen her walking outside not long before. There was a weight on my chest, a twisting in my stomach that just told me something was off. I walked outside, welcome by the brisk wind. A chill traveled up my bare arms as I searched the edge of the woods behind the house and texted Liv for the 300th time. I called out her name but there was no reply - it looked like I'd have to go in and look for her. This had happened before, so I wasn't surprised she'd drunkenly decided to take a stroll through the woods. But I usually spotted her within a minute or two - I didn't spot a flash of brown hair or hear her. That nauseating feeling sank further in my stomach. It was dark, but there was enough moonlight and with the help of my phone's flashlight, I could navigate through the narrow path. There was a constant shuffling around me - clearly not everything was asleep. My teeth chattered but I kept going in further, calling out her name. Why did she have to disappear into the forest? At this time? About five minutes or so in, I felt the brush of something soft on my arm. Liv's pink sweater was hanging from the skinny branch and I knew, that something was completely wrong. Fear punched me in the throat, making my breath tremble now. I grabbed it, and pushed further into the woods, looking for a sign of her. I yelled her name now, with a grappling fear that was growing by the second. I looked at my surroundings, not realizing how far I'd come into the woods. I was lost with a dim light as my way out - but I had to keep looking. My heart pummeled against my chest, following the trepidation of what could be happening to Liv right now. I kept calling her name, so loudly, that I didn't hear the low rumble a few feet away from me. Until it came closer, more of a snarl now. I looked at the source - a sleek, dark wolf with glittering emerald eyes was staring at me. . . . AUTHOR'S NOTE: Roman is now Veer.
