Chapter One
“Love is the most powerful thing in the world… you yourself may never know until it happens to you, young one.” The elderly wolf was wise. She probably had an answer for anything if you’d ask her. Her saggy face was gray and wrinkly. Her eyes were cloudy but had that young spark in them. Moonshine had always loved that old wolf.         Moonshine always remembered what the elder said to her that night when she was just a young pup. A teenager is what the humans would call this stage of life. When children grow bigger, hairier, and become stinkier. The puppies shed their downy fur and get funky breath from eating a lot of meat.         That was two nights before Moonshine was attacked. She violently shook the thought away once the memory was returning. She spat at the ground, “love is the strongest thing in the world my tail! That wasn’t love…that was sheer power. Nothing about that meant love.” She angrily pawed the ground and snorted when some dirt flew up into her nose.         “Moon…” a deep, masculine voice came from behind her. She snapped her attention to the wolf approaching her. The very muscular wolf was the most handsome out of the pack. He was very muscular and had broad shoulders. He was stocky up front and had very lean hips, his back legs were smaller but they still had sleek muscles. Sam’s blue eyes were piercing in the moonlight and his gray white fur that was swirled with brown glistened.         Moonshine eased up a bit when Sam approached her. He came up beside her and sat down. She looked at him and looked up at the moon like it was a father. “Moon…I know what you’re thinking about and I need you to know if you ever need to talk about it…” he started and Moonshine snarled loudly         “You know I absolutely won’t talk about it. You’re wasting your time. Don’t you have better things to do than act the noble hero?” she snapped and stared up angrily at the moon. Sam just stared at her with sympathetic eyes, as the leader of the pack he never takes another to talk to him with such a tone or such hostility. But with Moonshine he never said a word about her attitude…most of the time.         Moon knew why, but the rest of the pack except for the older members would understand his reasoning. Ever since he rescued her after she was attacked, he treated her special from the rest of the pack. She was the only one until Sarah came along, Sam’s mate.         She was adorable and sexy, everything you would have expected Sam to be with. She had the long red hair, enormous, bright green eyes and a spunky personality. She was also very kind to everyone; compared to most humans she was a saint. She also makes a wonderful mother to their first baby Isaiah. Sam adores his first baby son like a new, shiny toy.          “I’m just saying…” Sam continued then looked up at the moon as well. He lifted his paw and stuck his head out straight a little bit and howled softly to the moon. Moon stared at him for a brief moment and then turned her head up too and started to howl softly. They both howled until the rest of the pack joined in with them. Moonshine stood up and started to walk back to the cave where the pack resided.             She quietly and swiftly moved to the corner where she usually sleeps at whenever she slept in the cave. She has had to sleep in the cave a lot more recently due to the uprising danger that has been coming around lately…Sam’s orders. For being such a young wolf, he was quite skilled in being a leader and a fighter. The pack has been hoping that his son Isaiah would also follow in his footsteps in that manner.             Moon snorted as she curled into a ball on the ground. She laid her head down on her paws that she crossed over each other and glanced around the room before she closed her eyes. She didn’t like going to sleep at night knowing others were around her. It was a phobia she became accustomed to once she got attacked. She always looked at the wolves around her to make sure it was safe to sleep. She hated being like this but it was the only way to make sure she wouldn’t be attacked again.             Once the cave became quiet, the only noises around were the crickets and the trees rustling in the wind. A couple of frogs croaked here and there and the wolves shuffling in their sleep were as loud as it got. As peaceful as it sounded, it wasn’t anywhere near safe. So many things lurked in the night, predators and the enemy clan was out running the streets at about this time.             The enemy clan was another pack of werewolves. They were very deadly and don’t have any boundaries or morals like other packs. They were the rebels, the ones that killed and committed crimes without even worrying about the consequences. If they had done something to give suspicion of their existence they took care of it…personally.             Most of the wolves in that clan were very dark, usually black or dark brown fur and piercing dangerous eyes. That was usually how you could tell what clan they belonged to. They had pure bloodlust and all they enjoyed to do was kill and play with their food. Most wolves in other packs would recognize them at first glance. All wolves considered them exiles, just a group of some seriously naughty wolves that came together to be their own group.             Moonshine had never met any of the enemy clan wolves, she didn’t want to either. She was raised to hate them and programmed to always see them as the vile creatures that they are. She never wanted to have to meet one, but with the way that trouble has been lurking…she wasn’t sure anymore what to expect, neither did the pack.
