After her mother and father were murdered when she was five years old, Ava was sent to a group home for outcast supernatural children without family or a pack to turn to. Ava only remembers an innocent melody her mother sang for her as a child, and the same fairy tale story her father told her every night: the fated love between a majestic bird and a fearless wolf.

Ava's unremarkable life turns around when she falls for a wealthy and sexy bar owner that can wrap her in bliss just with his voice. But what will happen when her best friend, the group home's player she grew up with turns out to be her mate? Will she choose the boy she has always loved, but never looked at her with anything but friendship? Or will she choose someone that promises a hopeful future?

The choice becomes convoluted as a web of lies and deception resurfaces as the past comes crashing down at Ava's 18th birthday, revealing a family secret everyone was unaware of. Or almost everyone.

PROLOGUE
The end of the first millennium: circa 10th century AC.  “Why have you chosen to throw away a thousand years?” His voice cracked and she shrunk, ashamed. The night’s wind blew strands of hair across her face, not once had she laid eyes on him.  “The years are not lost. We loved, but now we must part.” She spoke, finally facing him, reaching.  Her words stung his heart like a thousand needles. He pulled away. All he could think of was the weight of that word: loved. As if it was past. Yet he felt his love as eternal. As if it will nevermore end.  “Who is he?” His question held a striking note of harmony, hiding an intangible compulsion for truth.  “The weapon in your voice does not reach my heart or my soul anymore.” She closed her eyes and a single tear rolled down her cheek. She never thought she’d love another, but the wolf had seized her heart.  “Never have I used it against you! Never have I betrayed you as you have betrayed me this night, and how many others? You have shared yourself with him here, in the place we have called home for a millennium!” Creatures of earth crawled and peeked through the ground and the sky, drawn to the captivating tremor found in the voice of the male siren. “There is no longer a ‘we’. It is time to part. This night I say goodbye to you, my first love, but not my last”. She unfolded her wings, magnificent golden feathers brightened the heavy darkness. She gazed at the night sky, crouching low to ready herself for flight. “Olenna, please remain!” But she didn’t. The powerful flap of her wings pushed him further away. She took into the air, never looking back.
