  It had been two years since she'd been thrown into her smelly new life, ever since that fateful, awful day she decided to join Jacob's little secret boy band, or pack if you wanted to be fancy! it was two years ago that they officially became guard dogs to reeking bloodsuckers, and as a result her nose was in a constant state of agony. she had to be in proximity with the bloody leeches on a daily basis cause, only being their guard dogs just wasn't enough, oh no! her stupid alpha just had to imprint on a half vampire girl. at least as a guard she could do it from a safe unpolluted distance away, but when your alpha is mated to a semi-vampire he can't stay away from for an entire day, that makes it impossible for her his second in command to stay away from the leech infested house for long! That she was in this situation willingly did not take away from the fact that it sucked being subjected to unpleasant smells on a daily basis and she absolutely hated it. but she couldn't leave the pack that option was firmly out of the question! facing death strait in the mouth was better than going back to Sam's pack. Leah was sure anybody in her position would have had a similar reaction. He was her ex-boyfriend that she still had feelings for and who qualified as ex through no choice of her own but because he imprinted on her cousin and then best friend Emily. going back to the pack was tantamount to suicide! who in their right mind would go back to that? It was made even harder by that stupid werewolf mind connection thing that made every thought you had in wolf form public domain to all the other wolves and Leah just didn't want to know whatever the hell happened in private between Sam and Emily. she already knew too damn much thanks to her super hearing and sight, Leah could see them, and even worst hear them from afar! wasn't being a werewolf just a bag full of fun, the gift that kept on stinking! on the other hand living on the hillside overlooking La push beach wasn't helping either. Sam and Emily loved going to the beach together. what was so great with the ocean anyways? it was just sand and water for cripes sakes! shouldn't that have lost its luster by now? Especially for Sam, the man was born in La Push, plus there was sand right in front of their home a little blow up pool thrown up in there et voila! Why couldn't they stay there? Somewhere Leah couldn't see nor hear them! Why did they insist on making her suffer and why couldn't she just let it go? They had been together for a while now, Leah didn't understand why she was still so hung up on him, or why she couldn't stop being the pathetic ex, she didn't even have the excuse of Jake's case. his excuse withstood the test, even at the stage of ovary Nessie was confusing the hell out of both him and Bella because if that had been the case for Leah shouldn't she be crazy enamored with Emily? Cause there was no way one of Sam's swimmers was doing this to her! Leah knew in her heart that she was fixating on Sam and the only reason she wasn't over it yet was because she was too stubborn to accept what was, too hard headed to let him go. Leah knew from her link with Jake's wolf form that her feelings for Sam were not as vivid as his when he thought himself in love with Bella. That realization still didn't deter from the pain Leah felt whenever she saw them together. So here she was voluntarily walking into the house of terror,... the pit of doom, and hellish stench for the thousandth time. -you called o revered and annoying one? Leah said to Jake snorting -yeah! he answered completely ignoring her jab, Tania and her family are coming for a visit tomorrow so if you could pass that along to Sam and the rest of the pack I'd be very grateful. -really, you couldn't have shifted for that? Quill and Seth are doing patrols right now they would have heard you and given me the message I didn't have to be here! -i can't phase right now, we are very busy making preparations for the party, and it's a lot of work! He said with somewhat of a feminine sigh. -how do you figure? You're in a house full of vampires taking two seconds to shift and relay that small itty-bitty message wouldn't have affected any of whatever is happening right now! -Nessie said she might need me. -oh, really! Well that's a valid reasoning! I'm sure the minutes it would have taken you to phase and back she would have just died of need waiting for you in a house full of vampires, two of which are her parents! -thank you Leah for gracing my life with sarcasm this early in the morning! -and to think you could have saved yourself all this by shifting! Leah growled with an eye roll. when her gaze returned to his face Leah noticed what she's been missing this whole time he had make up on! His eyelids were covered with pink purple and blue eye shadow, there was a faint red blush on his cheek bones and an unfortunate shade of purple lipstick stuck to the corner of his lips, it was all a bit smeared but still! she didn't know how she missed that his lips were purple. Leah let her eyes travel down his body his was holding a bunch of frilly pink things that she didn't want to know the name of, but the rest of him seemed normal. What happened to your face! she asked incredulous - Make-up do i still have some on? He asked rubbing is face -this is all types of wrong, what are you doing with make up on and does Billy know about your interesting new habits? -bite me Leah! This was Rosalie's gift, it arrived early and Nessie wanted to try it out. Leah narrowed her eyes at him and let them wander around the room. she couldn't look at his face right now, it was freaking ridiculous! Rosalie who was sitting at Emmett's feet by the sofa gluing some sort of white poster thing together was giggling under her breath, Emmett who was flipping through the channels was laughing and Edward in the other room snickered. Blondie had found a way to get back at Jake, and by the looks of it, she was taking inspiration out of Jake's own stories. -did you volunteered for that? -of course! -well aren't you a pretty lady! Yes you are, yes you are! she said pinching his cheeks and shacking them with each "yes you are!" then stalked to the door muttering loud enough so he could hear, first Quill now you. at the rate this imprinting thing is going you'll both become cross dressers and then we really will have problems! Leah paused with a look of abject wonder. you know, I think this all imprinting business is an excuse for you all to act like the little girls you always wanted to be! That she left the whole house laughing was not her intent but that's was happened anyways even Jake was laughing. Damn but it was so hard to get a rise out of him these days, he was so damn happy! it made Leah sometimes miss the times before Bella's wedding and a little bit after when breathing down his neck would have gotten you the fight of a lifetime, but then she would remember how it hurts to lose a person you loved, especially the way he'd felt about Bella and immediately felt guilty. Leah didn't need a partner in pain, she was doing so well carrying the suffering of the world on her own! she wouldn't wish that on anybody. She ran into the forest bordering the Cullen's residence so she could shift and run back to the reservation, out of all things werewolf running was what she loved the most, the speed, felling the wind ruffling through her fur. Leah loved the freedom it inspired, the knowledge that should she want to, she could leave and be far away by night fall, and if she could just rid herself of any sensibility to the major guilt trip her mother laid on her when she first told her she was leaving, Leah would have been very far from here by now! The memory of the scene her mother made that day was still on her mind, she had just told her of her intention to leave after Leah came back from seeing "The loving couple" in action and had enough of all that! She went to her mom to say goodbye, and was naïve enough to think it was all going to be standard but damn was she wrong! Leah found her in the kitchen cutting vegetables and told her she finally had enough and was leaving the reservation -what do you mean by leaving? For a little while or for good? -for as long as they live mom i can't do this anymore! She didn't have to clarify who "they" were, they both knew the only "they" Leah wanted to run from. -that's not fair, she started with a small hiccup, her eyes getting misty -what do you mean? -why do I have to lose everybody i love, first your father left now you! -i don't think dad had anything to do with his own death ma, he didn't wake up one morning and went " hum, I think I shall die now! " -no but he's not here anymore is he? and now you want to leave me too, what have i ever done for everybody to leave me, am i such a bad person? -mom this isn't about you this is about Sam -oh God! she wailed dropping to the floor dramatically, i am bad, I'm a bad mother! -mom calm down that's not what this means and you know it! -oh! ,She wailed wiggling around on the floor clutching her chest like someone stabbed her repeatedly in the heart, I'm going to die alone! one day, people are going to wake up remembering they haven't seen me for a while, they are going to come check on me and find me dead on the floor with cats eating my face! Is that the kind of death a child would wish to her mother, if said mother had been good to her? - now you're just being melodramatic! she replied tired, her mother was only forty eight years old and the town nosy-never-stays-at-home-for-more-than-an-hour woman. people noticed when she spent more than two hours without being seen, and she had whatever the relationship that she had going on between her Charlie and Billy, relations Leah actively tried to ignore at any cost, to ponder upon it was at best disgusting! whatever it was she was used to it and refused to ponder on the particulars! As far as she wanted to know her mother was asexual and so was her father come to think of it, her and Seth were the fruit of a mitosis where my mother's cells divided in two to form another human being. Furthermore Her mom also had Seth who showed absolutely no sign of ever moving out of the house. -Dear God, why won't anybody love me! she wailed rising on her knees with her arms raised up to the sky. -mom what are you getting at? Leah sighed exasperated, it might have sounded cold to a person passing by that she sounded annoyed when her mother was actively wailing her head off but what the person couldn't see was that her mother's eyes were weirdly clear, dry and focused for somebody crying that hard, hell for somebody crying at all, Leah knew she was working on a strategy to make her do what she wanted and usually those machinations took time, time Leah didn't want to spend trying to figure out her mom's big evil plan to make her stay. she had already started with the Jewish guilt trip and Leah just knew the battle was already lost so why not speed thing up! -ok, so you either agree to stay here now or i work you so hard you won't even think about putting your foot out that door for a very long time! -i don't know how dad put up with you for so long! - he was an angel i didn't even have to trick him most of the time, plus it didn't work on him, he just let me think it did, I do miss him! and i know it hurts you to see Sam and Emily so happy together but you and Seth are all i have left i don't want to lose you, I'm sorry! -its ok, i understand! Leah sighed defeated and she did really, they had lost their father to a cardiac arrest two years ago, all of them dealt differently with the grief and she guessed her mom's way was to keep both her kids close to her side. Leah was just thankful that it wasn't so close as to become stifling, they had to keep her updated on their whereabouts every day but that was still pretty reasonable. After that Leah stayed in La Push even if it was slowly but surely eating at her soul bit by bit! she must really be a glutton for punishment to continue on like this Leah thought shaking her head and mentally changing the subject, dwelling on her problems will bring her nothing so she concentrated on the task at hand namely warning Sam of the upcoming visitors. She was close to Emily's home when luckily she caught Jared's scent, it was still very fresh and heading towards Kim's place, luckily he might still be there so she followed him to Kim's place where surprise, surprise they were in the middle of eating each other faces off! he had backed her against the railing of her front porch while kissing and groping the hell out of her, disgustingly in love pair of fools, Leah so would not envy the rest of his pack when they'll have to listen to this charming little episode later, they would really regret the connecting minds thing then, she knew she would! it really was annoying, she phased into her two legged self, thanking God that the only mated wolves in her pack were both at the stage of glorified nanny, if they had been at Jared and Paul stage she would have gone out and tied herself to the back of a moving car and let the asphalt scrape the skin and meat off her bones! When she got close enough to the pair, she yanked Jared off Kim and threw him against the wall with gusto which with a normal wolf would have had him exploding out of his clothes, but, oh no! He was standing there plastered against the wall which now sported a Jared-like dent, looking at me all dazed-like and all kind of stupid, man she hated mated wolves! What did a wolf have to do to get a descent fight around here? it was like the land of the mated and too young to antagonize really took the buzz out of life and if this whole irritating business keeps on spreading around the way it had started the only people Leah would have left to fight would be babies at least now she could still count on Embry! Thanks heaven for that excitable imbecile -let the poor girl breathe, it's bad enough she has to deal with you on a daily basis, i have a message for you and your pack. -you threw me against the wall! he mumbled still dazed -well aren't you the observant little thing! she snickered baring her teeth in an obvious challenge and god be blessed she saw him starting to tremble which meant a fight was close by, but he threw a look at where Kim was still standing not saying anything and calmed down, Leah let out a tired sight and continued on with the message she had to deliver, Jake wants me to inform you guys that the Denali clan is coming tomorrow for Nessie's birthday party, so if they were to accidentally come through our lands please don't kill them, do you think you're going to remember this or should i write this all down so you don't forget it in between make out sessions? -I'm fine! He answered calmly -fine! Leah snapped stalking back into the forest to shift, she was very miffed well miffed was a bit of an understatement she was royally pissed! she had been trying to get a rise out of almost everybody viable even Embry had refused to accommodate her this week and the result of all that self restrain, was that now she had all this pent up rage churning around inside and she was about to blow! for the last two weeks she's been picking fights with werewolves, werewolves for crying out loud! who ironically are supposed to be unstable. the unmitigated irony was not lost on her, nobody rose to her jabs anymore it's like they've all developed an immunity to her nastiness, and again she blamed the mind connection between wolves. Leah thought she might have accidently let it slip that she always felt guilty for most of the things she said in anger and they understood she was lashing out so now even with Embry stopped responding to her taunts, the last time she had to work hard at it, and sometimes it felt like he got into fights with Leah because he was feeling sorry for her, that was the last thing she ever wanted from people, she didn't want their pity, she could handle hate but sadly couldn't say the same for pity. The way everybody in the reservation pitied her when Emily and Sam's relationship came to people's attention was what snapped her out of a catatonic state she'd been in when Sam told her he was leaving Leah for her own cousin! Leah hadn't liked feeling less than what she was and that's exactly what it felt like with everybody Emily and Sam included felt sorry for her, from then on the next person who came at her all sorry eyed and well-meaning she snapped and snarled his head off like the dog she didn't know she was then. From that day on Leah cultivated her take no prisoners attitude she wanted people to fear her, hell! she even got off on it. Annoyed with the lot of them Leah shifted and decided it was time to go to her happy place. she stumbled upon it in one of her many failed attempt at leaving La Push, it was eight hours run from home, it wasn't exactly a meadow nor was it a spring river but it had characteristics of both, there was a spring water source that came out of a rocky mountain like someone cut the edge of a mountain strait down and accidentally cut through a pipe hundreds years ago, the mountain itself was surrounded by bamboos and a wide range of rocks in the surrounding, water tickled down the moss covered surface of the mountain and had formed a clear lake fifty yards wide there was ten feet of flowers and grass then the whole thing was surrounded by tall trees, it was Leah's safe heaven when she would spend more than a week a home with Sam and company and had gotten so mad that she was starting unnecessary fights. She loved to come here and just sleep it all off, the rest of her pack knew about this place but they never came there, Jake had told them not to bother and or ask question. And why shouldn't they when she always came back a mellower version of herself, sometime they even encouraged it! once when she'd gotten particularly out of control Jake had ordered her to go there, that was the only time Jake had used his alpha voice on anyone. After an eight hours long run Leah got to the lake and just jumped in the water wolf style with her clothes still attach to her hind legs getting them wet in the process, it wasn't like wet cloths would get her sick anyways so why bother! She shifted back into human still in the water and pulled her clothes on and wadded in the water, she remained there for twelve more hours alternatively swimming in the water and laying on the ground sun tanning or sleeping.
