Chapter 1
ABIGAIL'S (ASH) POV "Ash! Are you ready?" My mom shouted over the door. "Yea!" I shouted back. With one last look in the mirror, I grabbed my crutches and went to the door. But before I could turn the knob, mom opens the door from the outside. "I heard the floor squeak." She smiled. She should stop being such a worrywart. "Thanks, mom." We walked downstairs. "Remember, Arnold will drive and send you back home." I nodded. Moms walked past and slide the chair for me. "Mom, I can do that myself." She just smiled and walked towards the kitchen. "The most gorgeous and handsome man has arrived." Arnold, my big brother announced himself. "Sit down boy!" Dad walked in with the morning paper. "Oh, dad... Can't we have a moment where I admire myself?" Arnold winked. "The thing is, all you do is admire yourself," Dad said while reading the paper. Mom walked in with plates and breakfast. Pancakes! Yummy! "Where's Claire?" Arnold asked. "Out. She has a job interview. This is LA, after all, the traffic is crazy." Mom said. Arnold pushed his blonde hair back and began to eat. It's funny how similar I look like Arnold because we both took our father's roots while Claire took our mom's brown hair. "Remember boy, don't wreck my car." Arnold chuckled. "Is this about that jeep?" He should know that dad hates it when we mentioned about the jeep. "You know it is." I pour some generous amount of maple syrup on my pancakes. "Is it really okay if we stay home on your first day? We don't mind sending you to school." I nodded. My mom should stop being so worried about me. I'm not a child anymore. "I know my ways, mom. I'm 16 and Arnold can help me." Arnold nodded. "Yes, mom. I can take care of my baby sister." I hit Arnold's shoulder. "Ow! What's that for?" "I'm not a baby." Arnold smiled. "I'm a senior and you're a junior, that fits." Dad hushed us both. "Heard that?" He suddenly said. I don't hear anything. "Hear what?" we both asked our father. "No more Mrs. Billiard, the old lady that keeps on banging the floor!" We all laughed. "God bless the woman." Mom said. "We gotta go." Arnold stood and offered me his hand. "Nah. I got this." I stood up and put my backpack on my shoulder. After I grab my crutches, I followed my brother towards the car. I never knew that our drive in was this ... long. We were about to enter but mom ran to us. "Remember your hospital appointment at 4. We arranged for you to meet a physiotherapist." I thanked my mom. "Which hospital is that?" Arnold asked since he never sends me before. "Billion Specialist Hospital." Both my brother and I gasped. "Whoa mom.. Can we afford that?" Mom just smiled without commenting on our question. "Let us do all the thinking and you do all the studying." She said and kissed our forehead. "Have a good day today and Arnold, don't make any scene today." I laughed and entered the car. Arnold took my crutches and placed it in the back seat. "Ash... Are you alright?" I nodded. Arnold started to drive and I was fascinated with the scenery. I never dream of moving to Los Angeles. "I think I'm such a burden to everyone..." Arnold cut me off before I could finish my sentences. "That's not true Ash, and no. You're not a burden. We want you to be like before." Okay... Was he legit just tried to make me feel better? He never even cares before. "I know. I just had one of those moments. Sorry." I apologized. "You don't have to apologize. Ash, we all love you, never think otherwise, okay?" I nodded and leaned in to kiss his cheek. "You're not that bad Arnold." He laughed. "Please... This is Arnold Starbust. Soon, I'll be the most popular senior in Da Vinci Academy." I chuckled. "Hah! I don't even think you can be friends with most of the students, bro." "What do you mean?" he asked. "Da Vinci Academy is filled with snobs and irritating bitches." Arnold laughed at my remark. "That's true. But with my looks and exceptional talent in sports, I'll be on top in no time." he winked. He can be such creep sometimes. I chuckled. "What if your plan doesn’t work?" Arnold turned to me but I pushed his head back to the traffic. "I'll date a cheerleader." I shake my head. "Okay Arnold, you'll do that. But if you get into trouble, don't expect me to help." He laughed and turned to a long stretch of road. I looked around and gasped. The views here are truly magnificent. I turned to the front and again gasped again. "That's our school?!" Arnold nodded and I studied the castle-like building. Nine thick, square towers form an almost perfectly squared barrier around this marvelous school building and are connected by fairly low, heavy walls made of silver stone. Grand windows are scattered thinly across the walls in an asymmetric pattern. Long story short, this is so not the school I was imagining. "Relax sis. This is just like any normal school. But, this is a private academy." How we even afford this!? Arnold went to a parking spot and turned off the engine. "Come on. Let's go to the administration office." I nodded and he got out. Arnold took my crutches and opened the door for me. He handed me my crutches and I stepped out of the car. He carried my backpack with me and we both walked towards the school building. We were about to walk in until Arnold grabbed me. It took every fiber in my body for me not to yell at him. "Sis..." I turned to him and his eyes fixed on something. I turned to the direction he's looking and I noticed a black sports car. Is he being serious now? Sometimes, I wonder what his vision tells him when he saw cars like that. For me, it's just a car. "What kind is this one?" I absentmindedly asked him. He's always the car enthusiasts together with our dad. "That's a f*****g LaFerrari! That's over a million dollar car!" I have no idea what he sees in cars. "Batmobile?" Arnold gasped. "Bite your tongue! That's not a Batmobile. That's a custom-made LaFerrari! And its driver just parked beside us!!!" He's overly excited about this. We noticed the door rose. I was about to go when Arnold grabbed me again, force me to wait for the driver to get out. I bet he's a spoiled brat who gets everything he wants easily. I noticed combat boots. But when the person got out, I noticed the long blonde hair. Wait, a female?! She was wearing sunglasses but man, from just looking at her Athletic body and tall figure, she's a babe! I noticed the passenger door raised up and this time, a nerdy but gorgeous also blonde haired girl got out. It seems she's talking to her about something. She sat on the hood of her car and again I heard Arnold gasped. "Seriously why do you have to grasp every time." He faces me. "She’s just sitting on a million dollars car." I chuckled. I turned to the mysterious girl again and watched her take off her sunglasses. Wow was the first word that came to my mind. I have never seen such a gorgeous female before. She's a real beauty. With her black inside shirt, black leather jacket, black ripped jeans, and even her combat boots are black, she looks hot. "Come on Ash. Let's go to the office for our schedule." I nodded and followed Arnold. I lost count of how many minutes has passed. "Say it," I said to my brother. "We're lost." He finally gave up. He went to a group of guys and asked for direction. At first, I was worried that he might get into trouble but the guys suddenly gave him a high five. "Arnold Starbust, the famous quarterback from Jackson Hill High!" They know him?! He went back to me and smiled. "See Ash, I'm famous already. Everyone knows me!" He laughed and walked away. I followed him slowly. Suddenly he stopped and turned. "Sorry. I forgot." I ignored him and walked towards him. "Here's the office." He opened the double door and talked to the person by the counter. Arnold motioned for me to come forward. "Miss Starbust?" I nodded. "We're aware of your situation. So we will not have you take part in the gym. But we will have a paper examination for you. Is that alright?" I nodded. She gave me a file. "This will be your class schedule and locker combination. Also, this is your iPad." She smiled. Whoa... my own iPad?! Damn this school. "Do we have to give it back?" Arnold asked. She shook her head. "It's given to all the students for free." Arnold looks like a kid in a candy store. "Welcome to Da Vinci Academy." She welcomed us and we both walked out. "Do you need me to walk you?" I shake my head. "I can search for it myself." "Are you sure?" "I'm sure brother." He nodded and walked away. He turned to me once in a while until he turned the corner. Alright! Now, it’s time for me to find my own classroom. I started to walk and followed the map that the receptionist gave me. But somehow, I don't think I'm even close to my destination. "How many corners are in this godforsaken school?" I sighed and rest my butt on the floor. Once again I try to understand the map. I don't even know the high part I'm at now. "Need any help?" A voice startled me.I looked up to see the girl that came with the black sports car. Now that she's closer, I noticed her piercing green eyes staring into my soul. "Hello...." She waved her perfect hand in front of me. "Oh, yes?" I asked. "Do you need any help?" She asked again. "Uhh... Y-es... I'm going to this cl-ass." Did I just stutter?! She took my schedule and looked at it. Oh. We have the same class. I can take you there." She said and handed me the file again. "Shall we?" I nodded and followed her. We turned the corner and I saw some of the students at their lockers. She stopped in front of one and I waited. "This is yours. I noticed the number before.” She patted a locker next to mine. "I'll wait for you so you can put your things inside." I nodded and put my crutches in the locker. I unzip my bag and put everything that I don't need inside. "Hey, Iva.." Some guy greeted her. I took a little peek and she didn't even look up to the person greeted her. She's too focused on her phone. "You're done?" She asked. I nodded. I took my crutches and followed her again. "Usually the principal will walk the student around but I think she's not in." She said. She stopped in front of a door and opened it. "This is your first stop for the day." I walked in and all eyes are on me. It's making me uncomfortable. She went to sit at the far end of the class, leaving me dumbfounded. I'm so lost here. Is there any sitting arrangement? Am I in trouble if I decide to sit anywhere? A girl raised her hand at me and waved me over. I went to her. This is the girl who got out of black sports car. "I'm Kelsey. You can sit there." She pointed to the empty chair in front of the mysterious girl. "You don't mind right Iva?" She didn't respond at all! It's making me all nervous. "What's your name?" Kelsey asked. "Abigail, but you can call me Ash." "Ash?" I chuckled. The mysterious girl looked at me. "It's my nickname at home. It's just stuck with me." Kelsey smiled. "This is Iva. As you may know, she's a very shy girl. She doesn't talk much." I smiled and sat on the chair. I placed my crutches on the wall and looked outside. I heard the door open and by now the class is filled with gossiping teenagers. "Settle down class." I looked forward and my eyes landed on a goddess herself. "We have a new student right? Miss Starbust?" I heard series of laughter from my new classmate. I'm so used to it. Either they call me Miss Starbucks or Starbutt. I raised my hand. "Ahh. Abigail Starbust?" Again, series of laughter erupted. If only I can bury myself right now. "Settle down. Welcome to Da Vinci Academy." She smiled at me. "Oh! She's the girls with the crutches!" A girl said. "Are you disabled by any chance?" The person earlier asked me. I ignored everything. "Maybe she's deaf and mute!" A boy said. I sighed and looked outside. "Fresh meat!" A boy yelled followed by series of laughter. "Ignore them. They're all dicks." Kelsey leaned into me. I nodded and smiled at her. "Shut up you guys!" Kelsey yelled at them. "Oh, Kelsey... Stop defending her. She's an eyesore." A boy said. How many times have I heard that before? "No Mika. You are." Kelsey bantered and series of 'ohhhh' followed. "What the f**k Kelsey!" Kelsey smirked. "MR KORN, LANGUAGE!" The teacher sneered. She cleared her throat. "You can call me Miss Ocean. Also, don't pay attention them." She smiled at me. I smiled back. "Welcome to English literature." She said and turned to the whiteboard. As I was taking my notebook from my bag, I feel someone throw a paper ball at me. Seriously, this is childish. "Loser," One of the girls pretended to cough. "I heard that!" Miss Ocean said while writing something on the board. Suddenly a whole lot of paper balls are being thrown at me. I sighed heavily. This is my usual first day though, it's nothing new. I removed the remaining paper ball from on top of my table and wrote down miss Ocean notes. I guess I'm just a magnet for this type of treatment. I felt someone touch my shoulder. Kelsey smiled and handed me a piece of folded paper. I smiled back and took the paper. I unfold it and read it mentally. "We will wait for you at the door after class." I turned to her and she smiled. She pointed at her friend and I looked at her. Iva just looked outside, not doing anything. I turned to Kelsey and nodded. She gave me two thumbs up. I turned to look at the board and continued focusing on what Miss Ocean said. The bell rang and the other students proceed to the next class. I took my time and waited for everyone to get out. I put my stuff in my bag and grabbed my crutches. Like what the paper said, Kelsey and Iva waited for me. "You guys don't have to do this. I can manage." I said to them. "No," Iva said and walked away. Kelsey just smiled. "It's best to just follow her. She said we have next period with you too." Kelsey walked beside me. She's asking me where I'm from, why did I move here? She's friendly, too friendly. "Where do you live? It's not like I'm a stalker just curious." Kelsey asked. "Oh, just some neighborhood," Kelsey let it go and we entered the second class. "CRUTCHES GIRL!" A guy yelled as I entered. Wow. The gossip traveled that fast?! I sighed and ignored everyone. "Sit near us," Kelsey said and smiled. "Kelsey! Ignore her. Come on!" I walked towards an empty table slowly. Without noticing, a girl put her leg out and I was about to fall when someone grabbed me before I hit the floor. "Kelsey... Crutches," She wrapped her arms around my shoulder and helped me to the table. She even helped me to sit down. "Here." Kelsey placed the crutches near me and went to sit on the table next to me. She smiled at me. "Iva... Why do you even help such a loser?" Iva didn't say anything. "She's our friend," Kelsey said and they all didn't say anything anymore. Are they afraid of her? "Hello, boys and girls," I looked up to see a smiling old man. He must be the teacher. "New student?" He looked at me. I nodded. "Welcome to Da Vinci Academy. I am Mr. Chambers and this is Math." I smiled and he started the class. Now, this is what I call fun. Math! Math has always been my passion. "Miss Billion you have a visitor." Billion? Where have I heard that before? Iva stood and walked towards the door. She stayed there and talked to whoever it was. Billion... Hmmm... Where? Iva suddenly slammed the door shut and walked towards her seat again. I heard Kelsey ask what's wrong. Iva didn't say anything back. Just silence. Kelsey asked and asked again without reply. Kelsey stopped asking when I noticed Iva stand and open the windows. "Miss Billion sit down!" The teacher said. Iva didn't say anything. She looked down and pointed at someone or something. "Kelsey..." Kelsey apologized and went to the windows as well. "It's THE BLACK LAFERRARI!!!" Kelsey shouted. Kelsey closed the window and smiled sheepishly at the teacher. "Sorry guys." "That's alright Miss De Vos." De Vos? Sound like divorce to me. "My dad’s a Dutch. And yes. It does sound like divorce." My first day started like I never dream it will. At first, it was bad but now... Different and students actually... Gave me directions and were being polite to me. This is so weird. The last bell rang and I was on my way to Arnold's car when I noticed Iva leaning on a car. It's a different one from this morning. Again, I heard the famous gasp from my brother. "That's a f*****g 2016 Maserati Gran Turismo!" Iva looked up to my brother. "Please ignore him. He's a car enthusiast." Iva turned to me. "Oh. Really?" I nodded. She turned to Arnold again. "Tell me the basic horsepower, curb weight, MPG & engine type." She's actually playing along?! Arnold put her fingers on his chin. "Hmmm... 444 to 454 HP, 4,145 to 4,365 lbs, the MPG up to 13 city / 21 highways and of course 4.7-litre engine with v8." Iva raised her eyebrows at what Arnold babbling about. "Wanna test drive?" Iva asked. Arnold's eyes widen. "For real?!" Iva nodded and threw her keys at him. "Have fun." Iva moved away from her car and went to my side. "I'm still waiting for Kelsey. She's on her date with her girlfriend. Secretly," Wait... Girlfriend? I watched as Arnold opened the door. He turned to Iva again. Iva waved him off and Arnold entered. He looked so happy. "THIS IS ONE OF MY DREAM CARS!" He screamed and turned on the engine. It roared. "Take your time." Arnold reversed and blew up the road like he owned it. "You seriously let my brother drive your car? He just wrecked his jeep." "I don't mind. That's not mine. It's my sisters. She's the one who met me at class before." Arnold came back and parked the car. He got out and thanked Iva. "Come on. I nearly forgot about your appointment." Oh, yea. He helped me to get inside the car. "Thanks, man. Nice car." Iva leaned on the hood again. She's so mysterious. "Hey, Arnold... What's the name of the hospital again?" Arnold started the car. "Billion specialist hospital." Billion... IVA BILLION! Arnold started to drive and I have a lot on my mind now. "Arnold... I think we just met the daughter of the person who owns the hospital was going to." "Why?" "Her name is Iva Billion." Arnold gasped. "WHAT?!" I nodded and turned to him. "She's been with me all day today and no one bullied me." "ASH... SHE'S THE SCHOOL ICE QUEEN!" Ice queen? She's friendly! She even... What is happening?!
