Chapter 1
Such a lovely day isn’t it? It’s the first day of my senior year in high school. I just turned seventeen over the summer, and I’m excited for this final chapter into my teenage years! Where are my manners! The name’s Celina Hayes, and I’m currently residing in a nice remote town upstate. The city life is too extreme for my parents and myself, so we live in a nice little town surrounded by beautiful lakes, mountains, forests, and wolves!  I should mention that it's not your typical wolves huh. Well, technically we live with wolves, though they are werewolves. To be honest, I was born within a pack, even though I’m a human. My parents moved to this nice town of Rocksville, and apparently my parents always knew about werewolves. I think we are the few humans in existence to coexist within packs so easily, and be accepted just as easily as well. The supernatural world is actually quite natural for me. I mean, I’m one of the few humans that can actually keep up with their speed, strengths, and stamina after all. Not to brag either but I am quite attractive, though I loathe girly clothes and anything girly related....for the most part. I do have moments where I want to shine brightly, and then real life drags me back from the clouds to wake and sober me right up.  Which brings me to my best friend forever, my bff for life, Amelia Silverlight. And guess what? She’s a werewolf! We practically grew up together, and have been inseparable since our diaper days. She does have a twin brother though, Victor Silverlight. I haven’t seen that brat in over a year! Can you believe it? Well, he’s the next Alpha of Red Moon Pack, which is where we are currently residing. So apparently once they turn sixteen, they have to go to this special academy for a year. I guess it’s to train to get stronger and also understand the ropes of leading a group of wolves for the next god knows how many decades.  I never told Amelia, but I secretly missed the little twerp. We were always together, all three of us. And whenever someone tried to tease or bully me, both Vic and Mel would make them regret they were ever born. They’re both way too overprotective of me. I mean I get I’m a human and all, but they act like I’m made of porcelain. I can handle my own against pack warriors like come on! I do have a backbone. I had to be tough to survive being around the pups.  I looked at the time on my phone and noticed I have just about an hour before school starts. That usually means that Mel should be around anytime now. I looked at my reflection. My brunette hair was curly. It wasn’t the extreme tight-break-combs curly, but it was still a nest over my head. I had it wrapped in a towel as I washed it earlier, and I was trying to figure out what to wear for my first day of school. My skin was a shade darker than pale, since I like spending my time outdoors under the warm sun. My jade eyes were more prominent, and I was one of the few with green eyes around here. I rummaged through my closet, pulling a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and an off the shoulders blue shirt.  “Lina Lina Ballerina!” I heard from outside my room. I chuckled as Amelia barged into my room, her usual. “Melly Melon” I teased back as I started to untangle my damp curls. I heard Amelia whistled as I had bent over and I rolled my eyes before whipping my hair back, effectively smacking her in the face. “Lina, you scent is a little different today” Amelia said confused as she started sniffing me again. “Oh God Mel, I just showered…no way I smell bad” I defended myself. She rolled her eyes as she sat down on my bed. She was wearing a denim skirt with a white shirt. Amelia had sandy blond hair and silver eyes with blue specks all around. Her skin was a tad paler than mines, but she was about half a foot taller than me. I was standing at five foot nine, and Amelia was easily close to six feet tall.  “No silly…I don’t know. Your birthday was last month so I guess this is your actual scent?” she said in more of a question. I shrugged my shoulders as I gently tousled my hair, my curls falling softly over my shoulders with a slight volume on top. I sprayed a little hair spray to keep it in place and applied a bit of a natural shade eyeshadow and pink lip gloss. I smacked my lips and looked at my outfit one more time before nodding in approval.  “You know I don’t understand the whole scent thing right?” I told Amelia. “Well for us werewolves, we can identify people by their unique scent. It’s not body odor or perfumes. It’s just a natural pheromone each person has. To me you smell like strawberries and honey” I looked at her and raised an eyebrow. “How on earth do I smell like strawberries when I’m a person?” I asked incredulously.  Amelia laughed at my reaction. “I said your pheromones. Normally the scent is distinguished by what characterizes you. In your instance strawberries and honey because you’re sweet and just have a naturally positive aura. Now lest say it’s our mate, then their scent would be something we naturally love and cherish. I wonder if my mate will smell like chocolate and hazelnut” Amelia continued dreamily. I snorted a laugh as I grabbed my bag, keys and phone. “Only you would want your mate to smell like Nutella” I joked.   She snickered and smacked my shoulder playfully. We left my room and down the stairs and the smell of waffles and bacon engulfed me. “Hmmm…if I were a werewolf I would love for my mate to smell like maple covered bacon” I joked. Amelia palmed her forehead at me as we sat down at the dining table, looking at the breakfast my mother made.  “Good Morning Mrs. Hayes” Amelia said with a sweet smile. My mother chuckled at us as she placed our glasses of orange juice in front of us. “Good Morning Amelia, you’re as energetic as usual” my mother teased. Amelia grinned as she filled her plate with food. “You know it…first day of school…hopefully meet my mate…the usual” she responded. My mother laughed as she sat down, getting ready to eat with us. I shook my head as I filled my plate as well, practically inhaling my food.  “Where’s dad?” I asked in between mouthfuls. My mother glared at me, and I swallowed the food before smiling sheepishly. “Manners Celina…if only you had a little bit more manners” she chastised me. I chuckled, shrugging my shoulders. I was a tomboy at heart, I couldn’t help it!
