Alpha Queen

What is the definition of fearless? Some would say if they looked it up in the dictionary, they’d see my picture under it. They’d see my ocean blue eyes and my long black hair, they’d see my pristine outfit and my brightest smile. To be successful, to keep reaching for more, even after going one hundred percent. Never strong enough, never loud enough, to keep going when everyone else has turned away. To keep pushing, until there’s nowhere left to push. They don’t understand that the person they label fearless, is usually the one who fears most of all. The fear of never being good enough. I knew that fear well, but I never expected it to come in the form of the unexpected. I never knew I wanted it, the freedom, the wind, until I received it. To feel the speed coursing through my body, the strength of my paws slapping against the forest floor, and the leaves brushing against my fur, was something I never expected to have. The next Queen, a title I knew well; a title I was born for, a title I was ready for. Then I discovered there could be more, and I wanted it more than I wanted to breathe. To be Alpha, and a Queen…was it possible? To be everything the pack needed, and then more? Fearless, some would say. To strive for more, to push for more. Never enough, but that’s not what it was like, for me. It just gave me one more fear, among the sea of fears, as if there wasn’t enough, to begin with. Fear of the unknown, fear of what was coming, and fear of what I could lose. I didn’t want to lose the wind, the freedom, but I didn’t want to lose the title either. Maybe that meant I was fearless, but honestly, I just wanted what was mine, and I was willing to do anything it took to keep it. To be Alpha, I was expected to be more. Fearless, like her. I was expected to keep going, to push harder, to be stronger, to keep going until there was nothing left. I wanted to be what they wanted for me, but I wanted to be me, as well. I wasn’t ready to be fearless. I had no reason to be, not yet. It was frustrating to be compared to someone else, to be expected to be like them, when all you wanted was to be accepted for who you were. But what if she wasn’t as fearless as I thought she was? What if, deep down, she was just as flawed, just as scared as the rest of us? What is fearless? I’m starting to think it’s a word made up to keep others pushing for more when, all along, it was the fear that has been driving us from the beginning. Because of her, I learned what it truly meant to be fearless. It means to strive for more, to strive to be better, to strive to protect what you love, what you care for. It meant I had to strive to protect her, just another fear, the fear of losing her. I would be fearless for her, even if it ended up killing me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Because of reasons I can't explain on here, I'm giving a warning of removal.
