A Second Chance

Zoe POV Zoe could feel the smoke filling her lungs and she could hear the screams of her coven. No matter how hard she pushed herself, it didn't seem like her legs were getting her any closer. She kept thinking to herself, " I need to find my mother and sisters".  Zoe finally reached her village but when she stood in the clearing to catch her breath all she could see was her village on fire and bodies laying everywhere. Her heart dropped. She felt like she was in a haze. Zoe began to run by all the bodies trying to find her mother. She hoped that her mother and sisters were able to escape.  She saw some  bodies laying by the well and her heart stopped. As she got closer she knew it was her mother and her little sisters. She dropped to her knees and held her mother's hand begging to the spirits to let her mother wake up. "Zoe you need to run". Zoe snapped her eyes to her mother's face. "Mom get up I'll carry the girls, we have to get out of here." "Zoe your sisters and I are out of time but you can still make it." "Mom I'm not leaving you!" "Zoe please you need to go now they can come back any minute." "Zoe you need to run into the house and get the family grimoire and leave from here. It will help you for when you ascend." "Mom I can't do this without you please I'll help you get out of here." "Zoe I don't have much longer here on this Earth so please listen to me." Zoe noticed the pool of blood forming around her mother and noticed her voice becoming weaker as she was struggling to keep her eyes open. "Where will I go the whole coven is gone." "I'm sorry my baby but you will have to find your way. The spirits will protect you. I never go the chance to tell you but you are a powerful witch. You are more powerful than any witch ever born. You are the chosen one. When you turn 18 and you ascend, you will gain full strength of your powers and you are destined to great things with them. The Maro sisters can not know you alive because they will try to destroy you and take your powers for their evil deeds." Zoe was trying to process all this information but her mind was all over the place. She felt her mother grab her hands and she opened her clenched fist. Then light in her eyes faded away. Looking at her hands she saw her mothers necklace. A sacred family heirloom that was passed down to each generation of high priestess. Zoe took the necklace and placed it around her neck. She then kissed her mother and sister's bodies and then got up.  Zoe sat up in a cold sweat. "This dream feels more real each time I have it" she muttered to herself. She looked out her window and saw that the sun was just coming up. Time to go for a run.
