Alpha Queen (Book 1 of the Wolf Element Series)

Vanessa (Chapter 1) Fire, fire and more fire. It was all consuming. My head was spinning. My paws burned from the char on the ground. Four paws could only get you so far. My wolf growled in response, “How fast would two feet get you? Want to find out?” I laugh knowing my wolf may be a smart ass, but it’s not an i***t. Dodging trees left and right, I listen for the sound of other paws. Nothing. I hear nothing. Finally, I see light, bright sunshine, not the horrible red that fills my vision. Sweet air, I gulp air, as my wolf form lays down. I focus on my human form; the air shimmers and I am lying on my belly under the sunset. After some moments, I stand. Looking around, I see I am in a clearing. All the sudden to my right comes a huge crash. I see it’s my best friend Marty. He does the same thing my wolf did until the air shimmers. He stands naked as the day he was born. Good thing to shifters being naked around each other doesn’t even faze us. Also, the fact that he is not my mate means that even if I wanted to feel something, I don’t. Obviously he is handsome but I have been saving myself for my mate. “Alpha Vanessa, please tell me you are okay!” I looked at Marty laughing, my Beta is always overprotective. “Beta please, I can take care of myself. There is a reason I am the only female Alpha you know of!” I wink and smile at him. His deep laugh makes me feel like I am at home. I can see our normal smart ass banter put him at ease that I am okay. We look around at what use to be the back woods of our land, our home. “Are the families out?” I ask him. He looks at me as if I am stupid. Well I guess that’s my answer. We knew this was going to happen. So, of course the Beta took care to make sure the families are safe. I had to try and stop it with the warriors when they attacked us. Though, we did not expect the fire. We are going to have to move now. Where? Who knows but this is going to be public and we need to keep out of sight. Being a shifter is never easy. Being a shifter with the news following around, is even harder. Especially when your enemies are as evil as yours. ****Flash Back**** Im standing at the top of the stairs, listening to the conversation below. I hear Marty talking and laughing with another male. I recognize the voice and if I could, I would just stay upstairs. Though being the Alpha means not backing down. So I go down the stairs, ensuring my dress does not tangle in my heels. I take a deep breath and put on my best smile then turn the corner to deal with my newest problem. “Hello, gentlemen.” I smile as they turn to look at me. Marty looks dashing as always. The male next to him is another Alpha from a pack nearby, Cole Mavis. Cole smiles, looking me up and down. I extend my hand in greeting which he takes and kisses it, much to my disgust. “Vanessa, you are even more beautiful than I expected.” I force yourself not to roll my eyes. It is always the same, the Alpha comes on strong and flirts like nobody’s business and I turn them down. I always hope one day I will extend my hand and my mate will kiss my hand. “Thank you, Cole,” I smile the best I can as I say it and look to Marty for a drink. Sure enough, he knows the drill. A glass is in his hand and he hands it to me. “So, I understand you are looking for a mate?” Cole states the obvious. My eyes flash with my wolf. How dare he come into your home and be so rude. Looking for a mate? Try looking for MY TRUE MATE. Ready to scream at him, Marty pulls me away quickly. “Look Ves, I know he is a d**k just saying it like that, but you know how the council feels. They want you to mate.” He looks at me as if pleading, even though I can see the anger in his eyes. “Well, the council only wants that so a real leader can take over my pack. They can f**k off along with any other Alpha’s they send my way. I will not just take any mate.” I basically yell at him. He looks to Cole who is close enough to hear this. As if that encourages him, he comes over and takes my hand in his. “I promise this would be a good match, I would not take your control away.” He looks genuine. I laugh and yank my hand away. “Try again pup and I will put you in your place. I know how Alpha’s are, you always want control and unless you’re my real true mate, you have no chance of getting my heart.” I stare daggers at him, your eyes bright blue and shinning with your wolf. “Who said your heart? I just need to have you accept me and I will accept you and for you to bear my children. Love is an over complicated emotion. It makes Alpha’s weak. Accept me, this way we both win. The council will leave you alone and I will have someone to ensure my blood line continues.” He looks at me like what he just said is reasonable. This is why I have turned then all down. All of the Alpha’s they send my way. But none of them have been this blunt and horrible to me before. My wolf has been fighting for control. Marty is standing there with his fists clenched, you see blood drop to the floor from his hand. In that moment my Alpha power decides to do what it wants without my consent. It’s rare for me to get so angry that my powers react on their own, but damn this wolf knows how to piss me off! Cole rises in the air, gasping for air. Everyone at the party looks over. I realize I am standing in the middle room, without so much as lifting a finger and their Alpha is stuck in the air and is in horrible danger. His Beta comes up to hit me, but he doesn’t even get within 3 feet of me and Marty has him down on the floor with a broken arm. “You are such a loser, and pathetic excuse for an Alpha, Cole. For your horrible words, you will pay. You are lucky my Beta has already broken something. Or I would break you. So, instead I will leave you with a mark to remember me by, forever.” I stand there as Cole screams, a huge claw mark on his face, blood rolls down his neck and drops blood onto your floor. His Beta yells and curses. The other wolfs of his pack come and gather him after you drop his body on the floor. I turn to leave when I hear Cole’s promise. “You will regret this, you will die.” I don’t even blink and continue up to my room while my pack escorts the idiots pack out. I know he will try something, but what can a sad little wolf like him do to my powerful pack. ***End Flash Back**
