Wake-Up
Skylar awoke with a start, her heart racing and her head throbbing. She slowly pried her eyes open. Skylar found herself on a soft bed, not her regular wooden cot. Her surroundings were different than her old basement room, and instead of dead silence, she was welcome with soft snoring. Slowly she turned her attention to see who it was.  Skylar widened her eyes in shock, "Why am I in Mason's room?" she thought softly to herself. She slowly started to sit up and realized she was wearing one of his shirts. It hung over her tiny frame like an oversized nightdress. She tried to remember why she was here, what happened for her to be with Mason?  The more Skylar thought, the more cluttered her thoughts. Skylar slowly eased out of bed and went to his in-suite bathroom. She quickly took care of what she needed to do and then crept back to Mason's bedroom. After turning the corner, Skylar realized the soft snores had stopped. She looked up to see the beta smiling gently at her.  "Good morning," Mason greeted her with his warm voice.  Skylar licked her lips and looked down, "Beta!" she said as she curtsied. He let out a soft chuckle, and her newly eighteen-year-old body trembled with excitement.  Mason stood and turned towards his closet. He only wore his boxers and seemed to have no shame. Mason opened the door to reveal a box gently wrapped in pink and blue paper. He picked it up and turned to her.  "Happy Birthday, Skylar. Today, you will spend the day with Alpa Jackson and Luna Sarah. Luna had me buy you this dress for the occasion." Shyly, she reached up and took the box. That still didn't explain why she was in Beta Mason's room. She smiled, "thank you." "They are our mate." a weak voice called from inside her head. Skylar shook her head. Now she was even more confused; since childhood, they said, "You're only human. Your parents died in a bad car accident."  The Arctic Wolf pack, the Snowy Range of northern Alaska, had raised her from about six months.  Mason turned to put on a pair of jeans and a long-sleeved blue t-shirt. Then he walked out of the room. Skylar could tell he was nervous about something but tried not to let on.  Skylar frowned as she sat on the couch, slowly she opened the present. "Luna hates me; why would she celebrate my eighteenth birthday," Skylar asked herself.  The laugh that answered her was more robust than the voice from before, "She doesn't hate you. She knows that now, you will be more powerful than she could ever hope to be." "What do you mean?" Skylar felt silly talking to what seemed to be herself but knew that these thoughts weren't her own.  "I am trying to find a way to explain it without scaring you too much," the concerned voice knew she had to be cautious. It would be dangerous if Skylar decided to reject her after being suppressed all this time.  Skylar waited patiently for the voice to finish; she lifted the top off the box to reveal the dress.  "Woah, baby!" Skylar giggled at the voice. "Are you ready to hear more about me?" Skylar hesitated before she answered. She took a deep breath and said, "I am not sure, but we might as well get this over with." The voice groaned, "My name is Sky. I am your wolf. While I know you are shocked because they said you were only human. You must know that I have always been here with you. I was somehow suppressed, unable to move, or talk to you." Skylar felt tears on her face but tried to ignore them. "Why would they lie to me? What did they do to me to make you trapped? Now, I have more questions than answers." "I am here to answer them. I can tell you more, but are you sure you're ready? I know you also want to know why you are here in Mason's room. Let's start with why you are here," Sky stated.  A knock on the door had Skylar panicking. "Yes, come in."  In walked Jericka, her best friend and roommate, "Skylar, Luna sent me to help you get ready." Jericka was looking at her coldly, and suddenly, Skylar felt her wolf whine out in annoyance.  "Jericka, I am so happy to see you. I don't understand what is going on," Skylar rushed the words out.  Jericka turned away, afraid that Skylar would see her tears. "I don't understand why you are here in Mason's room. How could you do this to me? I thought you were my best friend," just above a whisper, Jericka finally stated.  Skylar got up from the couch and walked over to Jericka, turning her to face each other. "Please look at me. Jericka, I don't know how I got here in his room. I can't recall anything from last night after dinner. I am not sure what is happening." Sky spoke up, "Jericka isn't who she seems to be, be cautious." Skylar turned away from Jericka, confused by what her wolf had told her. She was about to tell Jericka everything that had happened since she awoke, but now Skylar knew she needed to be careful.  Jericka walked over to the couch and pulled the dress out of the box. "I don't know what to tell you, Skylar. I know that Luna woke me up this morning and told me that you were here and needed assistance. I am to help you dress and fix your hair. Make sure your makeup is just enough to hide your freckles." "You know that I would never turn to Mason for comfort, don't you? I know you plan to become his mate, even if you aren't 'fated mates.' But what happens if he finds his mate before you turn eighteen?" Jericka raised her head to look at Skylar, confused. She stepped closer and looked at her with wide eyes. "You are his mate!" It came out more of a statement than a question.  Skylar took a step back because she could see the hurt, angry, confusion, and doubt in Jericka's eyes. Skylar lowered her head with a frown and sighed, "I think so." Jericka tries to hide her disappointment but falls short, "I can't talk about this right now."  "I'm sorry, Jer. I don't understand what is going on. Please forgive me," Skylar reaches out and touches her arm.  "Let's get you dressed; we don't want to keep the Luna waiting too long. Do you have clean undergarments here?"  Skylar shakes her head, "I don't think so." "Take a hot shower while I go and collect them. I will grab everything else we may need, as well. Is there anything else you need?" as Jericka walks to the door, she asks?  Skylar shakes her head softly.  "I will be back soon. Everything will work out for the best, Skylar. Hey, I love you always, remember?" Jericka turns to walk out of Mason's room.  "Love you always," Skylar stated as she walks into the bathroom.  Skylar removes Mason's T-shirt and turns the water on to let it warm up. She steps into the shower and begins to soap up with the body wash she finds in the shower, only to realize now she smells more like Mason. Skylar groans and looks around to see if there is anything else for her to use to bathe. Noting there is a bar of soap on the sink, she steps out and grabs it. Skylar smells it to make sure it is not a manly smell as well. She relaxes because it's just soap.  "What are we going to do? Being a werewolf is not how I saw my life turning out," Skylar ask her wolf.  Sky says, "You will learn to love who you are. I will try to explain everything later, but you can't get caught talking to me for now. Jericka is already dangerous, and if she finds out that you have found me, things will only worsen. Keep your guard up and pretend that nothing has changed other than finding out Mason is possibly your mate. Do you understand?" "Yes, ma'am." Skylar finished her shower and wrapped her towel around her body. The sound of the bedroom door opening and closing reaches her ears. She groans at what is ahead but opens the bathroom door and walks out.  Jericka gives her a gentle smile and holds up a matching set of undergarments. She giggles and says, "Take this in the bathroom and slip them on. Luna gave me this slip for you to wear with your dress. She asked me if you needed shoes, and when I told her I was unsure, she handed me this box."  Skylar eyed the undergarments and reached out and took them. "We can look at them when I get back. Are you sure you are going to be alright with everything going on?" looking at the floor, Skylar asked Jericka.  Jericka chuckled, "I can't stand in the way of fate. Hey, look at me, please."  Skylar raises her head and gives her a small smile. Jericka continues, "Maybe I will find my mate as quickly as you did. I only have two weeks to go after all." "Jericka, thank you for being there for me. I know it isn't easy, but we will make the best of it," Skylar swings her underwear in a twirl and walks into the bathroom giggling.  After she is in the bathroom, Skylar finishes drying off and puts on the cream color lacey bra and panties. She holds the slip in front of her and groans. Skylar has always hated dressing up for anything. Luna makes her attend the annual ball, even when Skylar begs her not to. The slip is the same color blue as her dress; Skylar slips it over her head and admires herself in the mirror. Her curves have finally filled out, and she looked more like the woman she has become, even though Skylar felt like she still was a little girl.  There was a soft knock on the door, "are you alright, Skylar?" Jericka seemed concerned that Skylar was taking so long to put on her undergarments.  Skylar opened the door and sighed, "When did we grow up, Jericka? I remember us running around in cut off shorts and dirty shirts playing in the mud. When did our bodies find their shapes and curves?" Jericka started laughing as she admired Skylar's tiny but tall frame. "I guess it happened yesterday. I wish my hair were the same fiery red as yours, and these beautiful curls," Jericka reached up and wiped away her tears. "No time for memory lane right now. Let's get you dressed." Skylar reached out and embraced Jericka in a hug, "You won't be a slave forever; look at me getting all dolled up to be entertained by Alpha Jackson and Luna Sarah. Hopefully, I will be helping you in two weeks." Jericka pulled back and pointed at the stool she had grabbed from their chamber while she was there. "Have a seat, my princess," giggling Jericka curtsied to Skylar.  "Yes, your majesty," Skylar grinned and curtsied back before taking her seat.   Jericka begins to tame Skylar wild curls and slowly fixes them into an updo with ringlets framing her face. She helps Skylar apply the makeup as requested by Luna Sarah. Turning Skylar to the mirror, Jericka says, "You are beautiful!" Skylar stares at the woman looking back at her. She can't believe that it is her reflection. "Jericka, you did an amazing job. Thank you," Skylar breathes out slowly.  Picking the dress up from the couch, Jericka admires it. "The blue in this dress will bring out your sparkling, sky blue eyes. The glittery fabric matches the hair combs in your hair. Let me hold it while you step into it." Jericka lowers the dress to the floor, and Skylar steps into it. The long lacey sleeves feel like silk against her skin.  They pull it to where it is supposed to set. The sweetheart bodice shows off her curvy breast. Skylar blushes at the way it shows off her womanly figure.  Jericka gasps as she finishes zipping up the dress and catches Skylar's reflection in the mirror. "You are breathtaking. Oh, Skylar, you are so gorgeous." Skylar turns and looks at Jericka, "All thanks to you." Walking over to the couch, Skylar picks up the shoe box and opens it. Inside were high heels that pair with her dress perfectly. It was so amazing how well they matched, as if they were made for each other.  Jericka takes the shoes smiling at Skylar and places them on the floor, and helps her step into them. "Could today be any more perfect for you?" Jericka asked her.  "Yes, you could be getting ready with me," Skylar's voice shook as she spoke.  Jericka smiles, "My day will come; I have faith. I will go and inform Luna that you are ready." Skylar smiles, "Thank you! Thank you for everything." "Anytime, my princess," winking Jericka said as she left her all alone once again.
