Chapter 1
I'm an assassin on another mission. My dirty work, always in secrecy. I was on call on all missions that during nighttime. But this one differs from the all countless assignments I've done. It was so confidential that I cannot see the contents nor the details of this man I'm dealing with. Everything was anonymous. But I wasn't at a disadvantage. It was common to have those kinds of missions. I just took it as a challenge. Viper, my partner, also didn't know my target. She contacted me with the exact coordinates of the man I was about to dispose of beforehand. My earpiece buzzed. "Claw, can you hear me?" "Crystal clear, Viper," "State your location." "34 Helm Street." I was on my motor. Flashy cars attract attention if the police were on perimeter guarding the street from notorious speedy drivers. I would not risk getting a ticket or get my license taken. So I used a low-key substitute to drive my way there and took a shortcut. My GPS pinpointed the direction to the shortest route. I parked in a dark alley and removed my helmet. I swayed my crimson long hair to shake off the sweat that built-up, while wearing my helmet. I look at the building towering over me. Cemented and unfinished. It's a construction zone. But the construction workers were finished for the day. The passage was too narrow and padlocked. I assumed the entrance door too. Even if it wasn't it. I doubt that the counterweight would be accessible to me nor fast enough to reach my destination. So I had to find another way up. I think fast and picked up my gunslinger. It was a gun with a clamping hook. I shoot high to the edge of the building; the hook latched onto the balcony's railing, allowing up to the rooftop. I grab the railing, lift my other leg to the other side. The night grew darker. The pale moon illuminated the busy city. My feet landed atop a rooftop of a newly constructed building, even though it was new. It was sturdy. A perfect place to aim my target. I remain in a crouched stance in my 2 inch heels behind the gap of the balcony railings.I dressed myself in a black bodysuit with a black cloak to cover my face. My eyes darted at the back of a man in a suit. He shook hands with a client, assuming he had finished a deal. My target. All I can see was his rear. His face still a mystery to me. I shook away the thought and put down my duffle bag that hung on my shoulder that I carried with me. I unzipped it to reveal my gun. It was a McMillan TAC 50. It is a 50 caliber top-rated sniper rifle that HQ supplied me with. I loaded the gun's cartilage with one golden bullet and positioned it to the edge of the balcony. I eyed at the peephole as I aimed at my target's head. I took a deep breath as I placed my finger at the trigger. My other hand gripped the gun's body to avoid its sudden slippage. This gun would cost me a fortune. My earpiece buzzed in my ear. I tapped the tip to answer it. A strange buzz followed by a voice so soft. It was barely audible. The caller was my partner that gives me updates on my mission. "What is your position, Claw?" They gave all of us a codename to call us by. It's part of the code. Claw. My assigned codename. Hers is Viper. "I am in location, Viper." I answered back to her with a steady stance. I was palpitating cause this was a mission that I don't want to f**k up. Cause I had only one bullet. The temples of my forehead glistened. My palms sweated beneath my leather gloves as I wait for orders to shoot. I wiped myself with a hanky and collect myself. I refocused my vision. I cannot avoid to falter. "Fire!" I heard Viper's voice through my earpiece. Finally. They gave me orders to shoot. I aimed at the bull-eye and pulled the trigger of my gun. The bullet travelled with a sharp bang that made a hole in the glass frame of the building. Headshot. The bullet had pierced through his skull. A trail of blood slurred out of it as it contacted the person's head. I didn't miss. I watch the man as he turned and fell limp on the ground. His head crooked at the fall, spurting blood from his mouth. 'Wait' I zoomed in my gun peripheral view and looked carefully at the face of my opponent. 'No, It can't be...' I staggered away from my weapon. My hands lay flat onto the pavement, balancing my weight. My sudden withdrawal from my gun made my wedding ring slip from my index finger. It made a sound like a spinning coin and died out slowly. 'It can't be him...' I repeated and again. But my conscience told me otherwise. It was him. His face is just as I pictured it. My eyes widen with tears. I trembled so hard. My shaking hands that covered my gasping mouth as I curled up into a ball. What I saw was real. My vision didn't deceive me. Nor was I hallucinating. The scene mocked me as it kept replaying in my head like a broken record. Memories of my past with him came flooding in. The time I met him, the happy moments we spent on countless dates, the proposal, the wedding, the parties...every moment I spent with him. Gone with one headshot. The bullet I fired. I regretted accepting this mission. The man who was my friend. The man who I shot was indeed him. The man who I loved and cherished with all my heart The man who gave me everything I desired. The man who I promised to have a family with. But I cannot bring back the past. I already killed him. It was my duty as an assassin. He's dead. There is nothing more than I can do, it's done. I killed my husband
