Story of the moon
Chapter one: What is real and what is myth? There are a lot of stories about werewolves and vampires, they are considered legends or myths to tell around the campfire. My name is Elizabeth Gibbson I am around 5’9” have long light blond almost white hair and yes its natural I have pale skin and gray/blue eyes and I am here to tell you my story, the story of the moon. It seems a lifetime ago when I was just like you, I didn’t believe “the old wives tales” that I had been told as a little girl. My grandfather loved to tell me about the time that he saw a wolf turn into a man before his very eyes, and I loved to listen. As a little girl I worshiped my grandfather and wanted to believe him I even went looking for the werewolf that he had seen, and gave my family quite a scare while I was at it. At that point my parents realized that I was far too interested in my grandfathers stories and begged him to tell me the truth, he very unwillingly did so and I was crushed. I had devoted my entire life “all ten years of it” to finding the creature that I’d heard so much about. As I grew up I lost none of my interest in those stories though I had learned to accept them as just stories and started writing them myself. It wasn’t till my grandfather died at age ninety-five that I heard any more about the stories being real, In his will he left me a packet and in that packet was a necklace of silver with a stone that shown like the moon herself and a letter to this effect. My dearest Elizabeth, I wrote you this letter hoping that you have remembered the tales of an old man. Perhaps you remember one particular one, the one where I told you I saw a wolf turn into a man right in front of me that one was always your favorite to hear about. The part that I never told you about is that the wolf-man saw me and came up to me and snarling asked me. “How much did you see old man”? Now I am no coward but I was never more scared for my life then I was in that moment and I went through the war. But I had seen that man as a wolf and that was an animal I would never willingly face. But by my pause and my face he knew I had seen all, he studied me for a moment and said, “follow me.” And for some reason unknown to myself I did, I couldn’t help it I felt physically pulled after him. Well to make a long short he brought me to his pack, where he was apparently the leaders son. They talked with their council and they decided that I would undergo a series of test to decide if they could trust me to keep their secret or if they should just kill me. In the end I passed all their tests and as I was led out I was told never to lead anyone to that spot except the one the moon goddess would choose in Fifteen years. I was also given this riddle to give to the chosen one when I was on my death bed so I now give it to you for you are the one that I was pointed to at your birth twenty years ago. Your loving grandpa Harry Gibbson for twenty steps you must follow your heart in the forest of five shadows then use your head for twenty more to the left turn right and go ninety more using only your feet all this must be done by midsummer’s eve P.S Please do this one thing for me I know it might not make sense and you might not believe me but think about it what do you have to lose? I will always love you and remember you. Love grandpa I read this letter in utter disbelief. Did my grandfather really think that I would fall for the same stories I fell for as a little girl? I mean come on I am now a grown women of twenty! But his P.S bothered me, why was he so intent on me going? And then there was the riddle I think I know what it means because by forest of five shadows because grandpa used to take me to the edge of a forest and that’s what he always called it it had five trees standing at the front of the woods thus the name. Every time we went there I’d ask to go in, why I don’t know everyone avoids it saying that its creepy but I always thought it was beautiful. But he always said no saying, “now is not the time one day many years from now you will go in there and you’re life will change completely.” I never payed much attention to anything after the word no I thought he was just going on like grownups sometimes do, but it seems he really meant it. Ugh why am I thinking about this so much am I actually considering going on this wild goose chase? If I’m completely honest with myself I kind of am, I really wish I could ask someone about this but I can only imagine the looks I’d get for that. But after I read the letter a few times I decide my grandfather is right about one thing. What do I have to lose? Plus midsummer’s eve is coming up fast and it seems something needs to be done by that time, but what could the rest of the riddle mean? With these thoughts I went to bed and as I fell asleep all I could think was, “I can’t believe I’m thinking about doing this. I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night from a dream where all the creatures from myths were real. This was not the first time I had had this particular dream, it was very dark out and I was standing in a clearing and a vampire came up behind me and whispered in my ear, “follow me” and vanished. But he was quickly replaced by a giant black animal that I at first thought was a bear but as the beast neared me I saw that it was a huge wolf. The wolf started circling me its head was down and it was baring its teeth about to ponce, and that’s where I always woke up I never got any farther then that and it was really starting to get on my nerves. I eventually fall asleep again and don’t move again till morning.
