A dictatorial regime in one developing country rides on the ignorance, intimidation and assassination of political opponents and outright unfathomable atrocities against communities to cling to power. Alliances and counteralliances are formed, each bent on winning the presidency at whatever cost.

After the ensuing sham general elections is a bloody civil strife pitying one opponent against another, community versus community leading to unforeseen political turmoil and economic regression. The intervention of the International Court precipitates the murders of numerous would-be witnesses that renders the Prosecution impotent to prosecute the case . The suspects are set free for lack of evidence and their thirst for power escalates. Unknown to them is the slow, but sure, curse of the blood of the many innocent children burnt alive with their parents during the pre-election campaigns and the post-election violence which they masterminded. Will they survive the curse?

Prologue
She turned for the last time,if only to see the last of her only child being laid to rest in the family graveyard. She felt a big lump in her throat, heavy enough to choke her. So nauseating was the feeling that she fainted and succumbed to a world of abyssimal unconsciousness. Were it not been for her husband who was consolingly holding her hand, she could have had a thunderous contact with the ground. Even in her blackout, there was only one persistent question which had lingered on since that fateful day when her only nineteen-year old child and a group of fifty plus congregates had been mercilessly and surreptitiously gunned down by the police in cold blood : " God,why did you let it happen!?" Had she been awake, she could have opted to escape to the world of oblivion as the perpetrators of this heinous act were currently opening fire on the mourners. The stampede that ensued left many other bodies littering the graveyard. * * * * * Chapter One The brightly lit room boasted of five occupants who had been specifically picked because of their portfolios and vested interests. It was not just a room, but an expensively furnished bungalow that served as the secret hideout for highly classified conferences for the top brass of the state. Other than the five, none knew about it's existence, not even the security details assigned to them. Just as its location was mind-boggling, its technological furnishing and sophistication was equally of astronomical perplexity. It was sited in a thickly-forested area, approximately two and half kilometres from the city. Among this group was the Chief of the General Staff, Major-general Odingo. Standing at six feet tall with a pristine body,he cut such a figure that contrasted sharply with his fifty-two years. His work and dedication to the service could not have been marred had it not been for the fact that his current appointment to head the armed forces had come too soon to the disappointment of his meriting seniors and contemporaries. It was therefore trite knowledge that he owed his position to the powers-that-be. Being unaware of the meeting's agenda,he sat aloof, slowly sipping his cognac. Sitting next to him was Rt. Major-general Lok ,the Cabinet Secretary for Internal security. Being tall and slender with an athletic figure,he had such an amiable personality that one could have been forgiven for branding him a Bishop. Having done his part in the Forces,he had successfully represented his constituents in the National Assembly twice until his current appointment. He sat straight in his seat, occasionally exchanging pleasantries with the rest. Dr. Roz, the the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Communication and Technology. Tall and heavyweight, he looked every inch a bull-fighter. He had been alleged to have played a pivotal role in his government's win in the previous elections via manipulation of the Biometric Voter Register. Unlike the other two,he seemed to be at home, his resonating laughter filling the house. Sitting opposite to Dr. Roz was the Deputy President. Having joined politics at a tender age and from a humble background,he owed his allegiance and affiliation to anyone who ensured his political mileage. In political party affiliations,he was as polyndrous as he was philanderous. So vocal and controversial was he that he had been rumoured to be the power and schemer behind the government's win in the previous elections. He kept perusing through a thick red tape file as he imbibed the red wine before him. Last, but not least, was the President of the republic of Nyake. Medium-sized and of royal descent, he exuded a more aristocratic personality than the pseudo-democracy that he often mouthed. Being a hard- hitter of the bottle, he had already drowned two glasses of his favorite whiskey. After enjoying one hour of sumptuous delicacies and a cocktail specially ordered, he cleared his throat to signify that it was time to switch on to the main business of the day. "Gentlemen", he started," am highly delighted that you found time from your busy schedule in serving our people to attend this exceptionally important meeting in our lives, and in extension, our country. You are all aware that all factors remaining constant, our constitutional mandate to govern this country comes to an end exactly one year from now, unless we get a new lease of life by winning the forthcoming elections through whichever means. It's towards that goal that we are gathered here today to not only brainstorm the possibilities and impossibilities in view of the same, but also to explore and implement any means necessary", he paused to take a puff from his cigar. " I take cognizance of the fact that our friend, Major-general Lok, is likely to be in a quagmire, being his first time to be with us here. I would like to assure him that it's his distinguished service to our great nation and his insurmountable abilities that we unanimously agreed to handpick him to join this august Council. We therefore espouse the same interests and aspirations for our country. Without belaboring the point, it's my wish to invite my Deputy, who happens to double as our Secretary, to take us through the agenda of this meeting. Thank you all, and feel at liberty to give your inputs towards the realization of our goal" The Dp arose rather reluctantly and spent a few minutes looking at the file before him. He surveyed the people sitting around the table as if he was seeing them for the first time. Finally,he cleared his throat and began his address in a low, but audible tone that belied his cunningness and aptitude. "Gentlemen", he began, " to say that am honored by your presence and commitment is to belittle the point. Nevertheless, let it suffice that it's no mean feat for people of our like-mind and devotion to assemble together, not for self-aggrandizement, but for the greater good of our nation. We took to the steering wheel when this country was bedridden with political limbo and economic stagnation. Since then,we have made phenomenal achievements in various fields, save for a few mishaps which are being exaggerated by our opponents. It's our topmost priority that our hitherto accomplishments are not left to be managed by political shenanigans who are currently brainwashing the public with foreign rhetorical misnomers. It therefore behooves us to undertake any steps necessary to see to it that our government retains power in the forthcoming elections. Towards this end, each and everyone of us is to be tasked with a responsibility within our dockets in order to prepare and execute our objective. I have painstakingly here outlined the duties of each one of us here. We are all co-ordinated by our excellence, the president. We will have regular, periodic meetings whenever it's deemed necessary. I now request that you go through your own dossiers and see if there are any further clarifications needed", he took his seat. As none sought any clarification after getting their outlined list of activities to be undertaken, the President called the meeting to order and after a few pleasantries, adjourned the meeting.
