When I was 10 years old my family died in a house fire, or at least that is what I was told. I have absolutely no memory of my first 10 years on this earth. Growing up in foster care and being asked to leave promptly on ny 18th because of my 'issues' wasn't the happiest time of my life, but as I got older I learned to be tough and be responsible for myself. My issues never went away. But one day it all changed. One day I found out I was not insane. I was an Alpha.

Chapter 1
I am in the forest by the most gorgeous waterfall, I am so drawn to this that I remove all of my clothes and walk into the chilly water. Swimming over to the flow of the waterfall and letting the water hit me and wash away my worries. As I relax I feel something, something that always happens. I am being watched. I can feel it within myself. I open my eyes to peer around and as usual see nothing. The smell in the air is so rich and enticing I want it to never end. I make my way back to the waters edge and walk out of the lake. As I am pulling on my clothes I stop, out of the treeline the most stunning wolf appears. It has an icy grey fur with white markings that look like crescent moons. I freeze not knowing what to do. The wolf seems to be looking at me and I could swear it looks at my half naked body with desire. I go to move backwards and the stunning beast pounces towards me. And then I wake up. ‘’Eurgh, why can’t I just sleep normally for once’’ I grumble to myself as I sit up. I was not going to be in a good mood today. These dreams were getting more and more prominent in my life. I would not stop thinking about this all day today. Each time the wolf pounces I wake up in a horrible sweat. It is literally like I went for a swim in real life and not just my dream! I huff to myself as I throw the covers off and head to the bathroom. I lived in a small flat by myself in the middle of London. The flat is more of a box with a toilet, shower and a very small kitchen. But it was mine. Today is just another day, well I say this but I am 21 today. Goddess I feel old I think to myself. And that's when it starts. 'We are not old' Rolling my eyes in the mirror and opening up my bathroom drawer I take out my medication for the day. Swallowing them all at once and downing a glass of water. That should keep the voices at bay. For now. I do my usual routine of brushing my teeth, showering and putting on a lounge dress as I like to call it. I hate wearing clothes around my flat. I hate feeling restricted, I have always preferred bare feet and no bras. Checking the clock I see it is a little after 1pm. No I am not lazy. I work nights in a bar in town. I don't usually get home till 6amish that's on a good day. I have a few hours to myself so i head over to my armchair and get out my diary. This isn't a diary of my day to day this is for my therapist. To keep track of my dreams. When I was 10 years old, I was in a house fire where both my parents died. Or so that is what I am told. I have no memories of them or my first 10 years on this earth. I was raised from then on with a foster family, they weren't the best people but also not the worst. When I was 14 I started to hear voices in my head. Not much has changed, I still hear them. I have been to countless therapists and been on an array of medications, currently the regime I am on seems to drown out the voices. Well I say voices, it is just the one voice. She calls herself Lilac. Odd I know but hey I have issues, as my foster parents called them. I was asked to move out promptly on my 18th birthday. After many hostels and many part time jobs, I finally found my place. I work in a bar/nightclub close to my flat and have met some amazing people who I call family. I earn enough to rent this place and also live doing the things I love. Which to be honest isn’t much. Due to Lilac always making a way into my head I find it best to keep myself to myself. My closest friend Chrissy knows my secret and she loves me regardless. I finish off writing in my diary, the same dream as always there are only ever small differences, the colour of the wolf or the smells in the air. But always the same scenario. It is the oddest thing to dream I know but hey that’s me. Lex, strange and far from normal. I hear a knock at my door and go to answer, of course it was going to be Chrissy. ‘OMG Lex you’re OLD! Happy Birthday gorgeous’ She shouts at me as she grabs me into one of her famous Chrissy hugs. ‘Thank you hun’ I manage to get out as she loosens her iron fist style hugs. She turns around and brings in a few bags, which instantly brings in the smell of coffee and pastries. My favourite! ‘Ah Chrissy you did not have to’ I say as she passes me my favourite iced coffee of all time and a cinnamon bun. ‘Ohh shhh, I am spoiling my girl on her birthday. And I KNOW you haven’t eaten yet’ She looks at me with a stern look. I smile as I sip my coffee, she knows’ me far too well. We sit down and eat the goodies she bought me and she passes me some presents wrapped up. ‘The one in the bag is from us all at The Cove and the box is from me’ She say’s with a small little glint in her eye. The Cove is the bar we work at. I open the bag first and inside is a 21st Birthday glass, a birthday girl sash a voucher to the new spa opened up in town and some cash’ ‘You guys did not have to do this. It’s too much’ I say to her. She waves her hands in front of her face and states ‘Shh. You are only 21 once we are your family’ I can’t help but have a huge grin on my face. And I must admit I am holding back some tears. I move on and open the present from Chrissy. I look at her with tears actually starting to fall in my eyes and also a little giggle. She smiles at me and tells me to turn it over. ‘Our dreams keep us sane’ I really let out a giggle then and wipe away the tears. She has bought me a stunning necklace of a wolf howling at the moon with the saying engraved on the back along with my name. I hug her and tell her I love her and could not have asked for anything more. Checking the time and seeing it is already 5pm I stand up. ‘Well guess the birthday is over. Time to get ready for work’ I say to Chrissy. ‘Why you didn’t book today off I will never know’ She rolls her eyes at me ‘You know Fridays are one of our busiest, I would never do that to you guys. And it is just another day to me. You’ve made is special just in these couple of hours. Now I can still hang out with you all night tecnically’ I say to her and give her a wink. I head to the bedroom to grab my work clothes. ‘You’re wearing the sash at work you know’ She shouts after me Really is all I thought to myself, but I know better than to argue. She will win, Chrissy is older than me in her early 30s and the mother of us all at the bar. I finish getting ready and head to the bathroom. Last thing to do before I head to work is contacts. I don’t need them for my vision. No, I need them because I have one intensely blue eye and one intensely green. I am not ashamed but it does draw a lot of attention and it is just easier to hide especially at work. I pop in a green contact, although not a complete match to my other eye it is close enough. I head back to the lounge and surprise surprise Chrissy is in her own work outfit. Should have know she would bring it here. Guess that means we are drinking tonight after the shift and she is crashing here. I smile to myself. Luckily work is only a ten minute walk away. I do know how to drive but in London it is just pointless owning a car. Before I can enter the bar C pulls me and passes me the sash. Rolling my eyes should have known she would have picked it up. I place it over me and head in. ‘SURPRISE’ Everyone shouts. Scaring the living hell out of me that I let out a small scream. They of course all laugh and each person comes over to hug me and wish me a happy birthday. I thank them all for this and the presents, I feel so loved I can’t help but hold back my tears. I have always been very emotional. There is a ray of cocktails along the bar ready and some food. ‘Now I know you’re the witch of cocktails but we had to do something for you on this special day’ Owen the bars owner says to me whilst giving me a side hug. Owen was in his late 40s and one of the best people I know. He treated all his staff well. I have worked her since I turned 18 and was actually legal to work her and our relationship is that of a Father and Daughter. I love him unconditionally, he has done so much for me. He is also aware of my issues and my true eye colour. I laugh and thank him again. They called me the witch of cocktails because I was constantly making them up and getting all the customers wanting more of my potions. They even had one of the chalk boards above the bar saying Lex’s Potions with a few of my latest and favourite creations. We all mingle for the next hour, I was not allowed to set the place up tonight I was to relax and enjoy the next hour before the customers all came rolling in. I was also not allowed to remove my sash. These people honestly. The night started with a bang. A group of men rolling in all wearing too much aftershave and seeing me with my sash started singing and ordering beers and also being brave to try some of my shot potions. Which they all loved and ordered more. This was going to be one loud night. Before the first hour is done the place is pretty much packed. We were known for our friendly atmosphere, variety of music genres and of course the alcohol. The night carried on as normal, I was getting more tips and drinks bought for me due to the sash and decorations around. I declined some of the drinks, but I had a very high alcohol tolerance so I did indulge to some of the offers. It was 11.59pm when the most amazing scent I have ever smelled hits me, I freeze what I am doing. The smell is the same as in my dream. Dark roast coffee with a hint of hazelnut. My tablets for some reason stop working and the voice in my head starts screaming. ‘Mate. Mate. Mate. Mate’ Chrissy grabs my arm and asks me if I am ok. I unfreeze from my current state and look up to a man standing at the bar. I look into his dark eyes that looked almost black in this light. He mouths something but I don’t quite catch it because the voice in my head is screaming so loud I cannot hear anything. I pull Chrissy with me and run from the bar. No one seems to notice except the man with the deep eyes. I run into the staff room and before I can say anything to Chrissy, everything goes black as I pass out.
