Chapter 1
Chapter 1: "I don't know what hurts more, to know that I'm awake alone, naked on this empty bed after a night of blazing passion or the fact that I'm pregnant with his child and he's gone and disappeared." Christian felt a slight breeze that passed through the open shutter. Her son was sleeping next to her and he nuzzled his face closer to his mother's breast. She smiled at her son, he's beautiful, and an exact replica of his father. She closed her eyes and felt the warm touch that branded her skin with fire. She looked to the other side of her son and seen her baby's daddy. He laid peacefully and stared back at her with his amber eyes that burned her soul and ran deep to her heart. She smiled at him and he brushed his finger across her cheek. "Mommy." Christian jerked awake to find her son in his clothes waiting for her. It was that dream again. Oh, how much her heart broke to know that it wasn't even real. "What time is it baby?" She asked her son while her throat tightened. He jumped on the bed and smiled at her. He looked at his fingers and counted them. “It's this much.” He held up seven fingers. She chuckled at her son and grabbed him and tickled him. "You're so smart." He had the most innocent laugh she can ever hear, they brought music to her ears and warmth to her heart. "Mommy, you're hurting me and messing up my hair." She got up off her son. "Let me get dressed." He pushed her towards the restroom. "I'll make mommy breakfast." After getting dressed in a white t-shirt and black knee length skirt, she headed to the kitchen to find her breakfast. Jolen had set her a bowl of cereal and milk in a cup. She found him on the ground picking up some cereal he tried so hard not to spill out of the box. "Jolen" She said to him in a warning tone. He hid his hands behind his back and smiled. She gave up and smiled back at him. He pulled the chair out for her. "Thank you, sweetie." When finishing her breakfast, she grabbed her purse and cellphone locking the door behind. They walked to the nearby elementary school, a bunch of kids walked by with their parents and some with their fathers. He looked at them then back at her. "Mommy I have to go now, I want to play on the playground." She looked into his hazel brown eyes and seen the man she loved in him. "Okay, bye sweetie." She indicated her cheek out for him to kiss her. Christian watched as he ran off to play with other kids. He laughed as they chased each other. She thought about the first day of kindergarten where she didn't want to let him go. She felt a tear run down her cheek. "I hate you." She whispered to herself as she wiped the tear away. In the cafe where she worked, she clocked in immediately and tied her hair into a ponytail. "Hey Chris, you're early." Chris looked over at her boss. "Yea Millie, my son woke me up early" She ran a finger through her hair and placed bobby pins on her bangs to keep them out of her eyes. "How was your date?" Chris paused then looked over at Millie. "He was freaky, like he kept talking about cars and girls, he eyed everything that had a chest and ass." Millie smiled. "Aww, but he looked cute" Chris laughed and rolled her eyes. "Then you date him" The doorbell jingled and a few people walked in. "Hello" Chris called out while looking at the first person walking in. She didn't notice the guy with the black overcoat and black sunglasses that followed after. She grabbed her pad and walked to the customers that sat on table three. "Welcome to Cafe go go, how may I assist you?" The man took off his sunglasses showing his blonde hair and laid them on the table. He ordered and gave her a nice white smile. Millie walked up to her at the blender. "Damn you still got it, that man was obviously drooling on the table ogling your behind." Chris blushed while looking back at the man. He looked back at her and gave another dashing smile. She didn't see the guy that was sitting all the way in the back that seemed to be looking her way. He was wearing sunglasses also but he might not even be looking at her, but it felt as if he was. The blonde guy paid for his drink and his friend's leaving her a napkin with his number on it. "Thank you Mr. Roland." She said after him shyly. Millie looked over her shoulder. "You go girl, so did you have s*x with any of them?" Chris cheeks flustered, "Of course not, that is terrible" She said remembering the last time she bedded someone. On instinct she glanced over at the guy in the corner. "Millie did you help the guy at table eight?" Millie nodded and Chris felt relieved. She didn't want to get near him for some reason. Another hour passed as Chris glanced at the clock. "Millie, I have to clock out, Jolen is leaving school in twenty minutes. She nodded, "I'll clock out for you" Chris ran across the street to catch the bus. Luckily, she made it just on time. Clutching onto her handbag she watched the people crowd, in one corner she seen an old lady getting caught between taller men and women. The bus was crowded and she didn't want to get squashed but she didn't mind giving up her seat to the older woman. Smiling she signaled for the woman to grab her seat, the woman nodded 'no' but she stood up and moved over regardless. The old lady finally gave up and took the advance. Chris held onto the hook that hung from the railing and stood next to the old lady. Next stop was hers. The bus stopped and she walked off, while walking she noticed someone on the bus. But no, it couldn’t be. She turned again but the man in the bus certainly couldn’t be him. Turning again to look at the bus, no one was there. She wiped the sweat off her forehead. "Oh gosh." She whispered while her heart pumped a little over two times than normal. She spotted him from afar and watched him for a little. He played tag with his friends and that made her think about her friends. How she missed them. Having Jolen at seventeen wasn't so good. She had to drop out and go to a different school for pregnant teens. It was hard, everything was. Her heart beat faster. It was hard for her not to have him next to her through labor, to watch Jolen while she raised him. She couldn't even go to college. A tear ran down her cheek and she tried so hard to hold them back. Not now. "Don't give up now." She remembered the words he would always tell her. He was always there for her whenever she cried. "But he's not here now, especially when he got you pregnant" She admitted to herself. Jolen caught sight of her and waved. She waved at him. She sniffed and wiped her tears away and gave the fakest smile ever. Jolen grabbed his backpack and waved by to his friend and headed for his mom. He ran and gave her a big hug. "I missed you too Len." She said happily hoping to disguise her voice. "Mommy guess what happened today?" She tilted her head and kneeled in front of him. "We got to make pictures, look!" He pulled out a paper and it was small but it said the best thing ever. "I love you, don't cry" She read. He smiled at her showing his missing front two teeth. "Thank you sweetie!" Chris said before grabbing her son and squeezing him tightly. "Mommy..." Jolen called his mom. "Yes honey?" "There's someone watching us" Chris froze and slowly turned her head. She looked in the direction he was pointing but no one was there. "Don't play around like that Jolen" "There was someone behind the tree though" He replied. Chris took in deep breaths and tried to calm her heart. "Let's go" She said and on that note, they left hand in hand. Before they got home they stopped by the store. But still the feeling of being watched didn't leave her attention. Chris walked over to the window and closed the shutters. Some of the tension in her eased. Until the door knock that made Chris jump. She opened the door after confirming that her neighbor was knocking. "Hey!" Trish said as Chris smiled. Trish pulled out a bouquet of roses and handed it to her. "What are these for?" Chris asked eyeing them, "What'd you do now?" Trish shrugged then swirled in a full 360 degree circle. "I don't know, I found it in the hallway outside your door" She said winking at Chris. "What do you mean Trish?" "I don't know, Chris maybe you have a secret admirer?" Trish explained with sarcasm. Chris sniffed the bouquet of roses. They seemed familiar. They were her favorite type of flowers but they were white. She looked closer and found an envelope. She eyed them then pulled them out of the leaves. The card was small but on the front was blank white. Reluctantly, she opened the envelope and pulled out a card. The card had an elegant rose looking picture on the cover. Opening it she found nothing. The card held no contents on the inside. It was blank. Her eyebrows drew together, how weird was it that there was no message on the inside. "What does it say?" Chris shook her head. "Nothing? What the hell?" Trish pouted. Chris shoved the letter in her drawer in the kitchen, stirring the pasta. "So what we doing tonight?" Trish jumped on the loveseat and laid her head on the pillow. "I thought you had a date with what's his name-Fredek" Chris chuckled emphasizing his name with a feisty accent, rolling the ‘r’ on her tongue. Trish sighed and looked up at her cousin, "He's married, can't you friggin' believe it?" Chris shook her head, "Told you a guy like that he's married or gay." She said then mumbled while looking down, "or a murderer." Trish laid back down on the couch. Chris wiped her hands on her apron and walked over to her friend. "Trey hey look at me, if you'd stop fooling around in that bar of yours and to a more proper place, you'll surely find the 100% ok man!" Chris nudging her with her elbow tickled her. "What you doing Chris?" Trish asked while laughing. "Nothing, Len come help mommy tickle auntie!" Trish busted out laughing while Jolen came to help his mom. Trish kept laughing until she fell onto the carpet while hitting her head on the table. "Oh my Gosh Trey you ok?" Trish sat up on her elbows rubbing her head. Jolen walked over to Trish and kissed her head. "Len make it better." Trish smiled and hugged him tightly. "Why can't men be like wittle Jowen, I bet you have all the girlies on you like jelly huh?" Jolen tilted his head to the side frowning. "Trey!" Chris said giving her a glare. Trish laughed and pointed it to the pasta. Chris made a run for it. "Trey get your lazy butt and help me then!"
