Previously entitled "This is for Life"

In the world of business, there are 2 names that people talk about: Pierce and Dukes. Kennedy Pierce is the daughter of one of the two business tycoons, Richard Pierce. Killian Dukes is the son of the other, Giordano Dukes. Some would think they were enemies but, in reality, they're not. They are actually really close friends, so close that they decided to pair their own children off to an arranged marriage.

Kennedy and Killian may have gotten off on the wrong foot when they first met. It was so wrong that it wasn't the only time they ended up arguing with each other. They began to hate each other. Killian was annoyed but, Kennedy? She liked it. She liked him. Unfortunately, Killian doesn't share the same sentiment.

Killian and Kennedy
Killian Dukes The blasted alarm started ringing and the moment I tried to sit up, I knew I'd regret it because now, I'm hit with a massive headache. I don’t even remember how much I drank last night. …or why I drank so much. "Killian! Come on, dude. Wake up!" I hear the voice of my good for nothing best friend, Warren, shouting at the top of his lungs. I don't know why I put up with him but frankly, I'd be nothing without the man. We've known each other since high school. We're practically brothers. He's a brother who annoys the hell out of me, though. "Shut the hell up, Warren!" I groaned and covered my face with a pillow. Soon enough, I hear him going up the stairs and soon enough I hear the doorknob turning. "Well, what do we have here?" he sarcastically asked before slamming the door loudly. I took the pillow off my face and threw it at him as hard as I could. I hear the pillow drop on floor and Warren chuckled at me. "Nice throw." he mumbled. "After I get over my headache, I'm gonna make you run for the hills!" I threatened him as I sat up slowly and leaned back on the headboard with my eyes still closed. "Not a chance, man. You'd be lost without me." he cheekily said and even though my eyes are closed, I can almost feel him smirking. "Shut up!" I shouted. "Huh. Do you, perhaps, have a hangover from the amounts of alcohol you drank last night?" he asked mockingly that I can hear the smugness in his voice. I just groaned in response, opening my eyes and glaring at him. "Uh, what was that?" Warren asked and I heard another opening and slamming of the door. "Damn it, Warren. Yes! I'm hungover from last night and you’re not helping!" I was shouting at him and it's not phasing him one bit. The asshole's laughing at my misery. "Oh, man! All that alcohol over a girl who rejected you." he said as he sobered up from his laughing fit. "Thalia's not just a girl, Warren. She's not like other girls." I defended. "Yeah, right. And where is Thalia right now? Huh?" I stayed quiet, looking away from him 'cause I knew he was right.  "Yeah, exactly. She rejected you, dude! She doesn't care!" he pointed out. "Well, I'm not giving up so easily." I declared, swinging my legs off the bed. "I don't get you, man. Thalia's not even that special. I mean, don't get me wrong. She's beautiful but, come on. You could do better than that! Look, I have a friend who has a sister-" I cut him off by saying "I don't care, Warren. Unless your friend's sister happens to be Thalia, then the answer's no." "Whatever you say, Killian." Warren shrugged nonchalantly.  Then I was reminded by my wondering why he woke me up. "Do you even have a reason why you woke me up?" I asked irritatingly. "Uh, yeah. Your dad's assistant called. You gotta go." "What? Why?" "I don't know what to tell you, man. Just something about you not being at your place so he called me assuming you'd be here, which brings us to right now." he stated while he gestured with his hands in every direction. "You're a piece of s**t, you know that?" I groaned. "Always a pleasure!" he sarcastically agreed. "You know what, I'll just call him myself, wonder what my father's up to now." I reached for my phone and blinked a few times to see more clearly. "Alright. I'll be going down. After your call, come downstairs. Gertrude made us some breakfast." Gertrude's their maid. Lovely old woman. It's a miracle how she puts up with Warren and I, especially with all the partying and drinking we've done for the past few years. "Yeah, thanks, dude." scrolling on my phone, looking for my dad's assistant's number. "But before that, take a shower or something. You look like shit." he smirked at me before turning to leave and slamming the door behind him. "Screw you, Warren!" and I hear a distant laugh. Kennedy Pierce I feel warmth on my face. Must mean it's morning. I opened my eyes, slowly adjusting to the brightness.  I was also awoken by the ringing of my phone. It made me turn to the other side of my bed so I could reach for my phone on the bedside table. I look at my phone and I see my brother, Riccardo, calling me. What could be so important that he had to call me so early. It was only 9:00. Swiping right, I put my phone up to my ear. "Hey." my voice was still groggy from just waking up but, he knows I'd still be in bed by this time. "Don't tell me you just woke up." Riccardo sarcastically mused. "Yeah, so? It's not like you and Reece are any better. The only time you guys wake up early is if it has to do with a business related or family-event related matter. Most of the time, you two are worse than I am." I defended.  Riccardo and Reece are my two big brothers. I know it sucks but, I happen to love those knuckleheads. They're mostly decent when it comes to serious matters but generally speaking? Oh, no. They love spending their time with friends, wandering around vacation houses and expensive beaches. Even I go with them sometimes. I guess they deserve it. I mean, like I said, when it gets serious, business and family comes first and they are responsible enough to be left managing the workplace. All the while, I'm supposed to be "Daddy's little girl". In some ways, I am. But in most ways, I'm just like my brothers. I like having fun with my girls. It's a good thing they don’t get me in trouble though. Bad publicity never goes well in this world. Probably, that's why I still live at my parents' villa. My brothers moved out ages ago, got the bachelor dream penthouse they've always wanted and now, they're living the life. They say I could always move in with them since they did have a room made for me but, most of the time other than seeing them? Their place is usually my sanctuary for when I'm drunk and I know I'm gonna have a hangover in the morning. Riccardo and Reece are the experts when it comes to breakfast for hangovers in my opinion.  "Hey! For the record, Reece is probably the worst among the three of us." Riccardo said back. I chuckled slightly. "What do you want, Ricc? Please tell me you actually woke me up for a reason." he knows I hate it when I get woken up for nothing. "Come on, Kenny. You know I know better than to wake you up for no reason. I mean, I wouldn’t want to unleash the beast." he teased, laughing softly. "Yeah, yeah. So, what's up?" I asked. "Yeah, dad called. Told me he wants you to come in today after lunch. He has something he wants to talk to you about." he explained. "Like what?" I asked confusingly, thinking what my dad and I could possibly be talking about. "That's something you have to ask him. You'll probably know more when you get here." he assured me but, something tells me there's more to it than that. "Will you be there?" hoping for moral support. "Ah, that's the thing. I was supposed to be there with you but, something came up. I'm having an emergency meeting with the executives by the time you're here." Crap. "Hm. What about Reece?" crossing my fingers… I hear Riccardo chuckle "Yeah, good luck with that. I doubt you'd be able to wake him up considering the meetings he handled for 14 hours straight." "14 hours? How did that happen?" I was shocked. Not by the time but by Reece, who actually maintained sanity after 14 hours of meetings. If there's one thing that Reece is not, it's being patient. He never lasts long when it comes to waiting. Although, it is business so I guess he had no choice.  "It's a long story. I'll tell you about it later. For now, be ready after lunch. A car's coming to pick you up." he instructed. "No, it's okay. I can drive." I assured him. "You sure?" "Yeah." "Alright. See you later." "Later." I said, before hanging up. I sighed deeply. I'm guess I'm really gonna have to face this alone. I love my dad but, when it comes to business? Nothing can stop him.
