They say love is lovelier the second time around.

First love isn't meant to last forever.

Diane never thought she would agree to these nonsense sayings, but when she caught her fiancé red-handed, it broke her into million pieces. She even thought she wouldn't see the rainbow after this rain or more of a storm in her life. Being a doctor, who is always on-call being one of the assigned ones in the ER for a prestigious hospital, she is guilty of lacking time to spend with her long-term boyfriend turned fiancé.

While John, a low profile billionaire, the only heir of the legendary Richards Electronics Industry, is still trying his very best to live in the world far from what his grandma Betty Richards has been bugging him to handle, their family business. He had a very bad accident when he was a boy that broke a very sensitive part of his legs and knee. Since then, he has been in constant therapy. Though he can walk normally, just like others, the pain is occasionally unbearable after excessive walking or fast running. His therapists are, of course, from the top credited and the best in the field, yet his condition is found out to be more of trauma than the physical condition itself. The pain has been too long that his system cannot forget about and be totally healed.

But everything is believed to be happening for reasons.

That is when the billionaire became the patient of the soulfully dedicated doctor...

Suspicions
Diane rushed to the parking lot. She had overslept and just ignored her alarm clock when it rang in time to get a 5 minute more sleep.  "Gosh! How can I be so stupid as to ignore my alarm! I should set more of them from tonight." This had never happened to her in her entire life. She believes in respecting everyone's time, for she also expects others to respect her time in return. She just hopes the traffic isn't that heavy yet since it's still 5:13 in the morning. She is on the first shift today after a week of being on the night shift schedule. Good thing she arrived at the hospital 8 minutes before her time-in and had a moment to drop her handbag at her locker and rushed to the log-in station and hurriedly punched her time-in card into the Bundy clock.  Just as she was about to put the card back on its shelf, she was called. "Doctor Diane, there is an incoming patient from a 911 call, they will be here in 10 minutes, I am on my way out so I will leave the information to you, please assist them, thank you'', Doctor Lisa from the night shift passed the job to her. "Sure, no problem, Doc Lisa," she smiled at her co-doctor/best buddy. They have been good friends since working together in this hospital for almost 3 years now. "Is it just me, or do you really look like a zombie today?'' Lisa teased her. "Yeah, laugh your heart out. I have been up almost all night because of my stupid thoughts. I'm not even sure I should be thinking of them", she frustratedly sighed, smiling awkwardly. "You should conceal it, though. Your patients might get scared to see their savior looking like the reaper who came to take them to after-life instead of saving them", she roared in laughter, waving her hands goodbye. Diane held her phone in front of her face and swiped the screen to turn its camera on. She was surprised to see herself looking so pale with visible dark circles under her eyes. She didn't have time to put anything other than a face lotion because she was already running late and nobody told her anything before her friend Lisa. Hence, she was clueless, but she had no time now, so she just applied pink lipstick on her lips to add color to her pale face. And just on time, the head nurse called her name as the ambulance was approaching the entrance of the emergency unit.  "The patient fell from the stairs, he is an elderly with diabetes, his wife said, he woke up and was going down the stairs when he felt dizzy and lost his balance which he fell three steps above the floor, the floor was carpeted as well as the stairs, so he doesn't have much of external injuries, but he lost his consciousness and the wife called 911 for help'', explained the Medic. "How are his vitals?" Doctor Diane asked while rushing inside, pushing the stretchers along with two more nurses.   "His vitals are very low. We monitored him on the way but, the ride was short. That was all we could do. The rest is up to you, guys," he answered professionally. "Yes, we'll take it from here, just give us the form and sign here for the record," she gave a glance to the head nurse to take the records info and signed as well. The 911 medics left, and doctor Diane started to check on the patient's vitals. She asked the wife if he had the insulin shot at home in the morning and found out he only has his shots at night before bedtime. So she told the attending nurse to give the patient his usual dosage of insulin. They also have to check if the patient has any other kind of health problems.  Her day went as busy as usual, nothing out of the ordinary, they had lunch at intervals, and when their shift ended, that was the time they felt how exhausted they were after a whole day of work. They never noticed while on duty because they were so busy that they don't have the time to feel tired. Their adrenaline was always in a rush. That is how an employee in the emergency department lives every day of their career life. Some of them try to look for different located medical jobs, but everyone knows it is not that easy to find, so some of them stay and wait for other chances or relocations of assignments while some of them quit and take their chances.  "Doctor Diane, are you okay? You don't look the usual you today?'' Jenny, one of the nurses, asked. She was surprised that after a busy and tiring day, her colleague would still notice her mood. She even forgot about it herself, but subconsciously, her mind was drifting into an inexplicable dilemma. "Yeah, I am just so tired, I guess. I should take an early sleep tonight to have a fresher me tomorrow," she chuckled. Only she knows what is actually bothering her, and since her busy time is over, her mind has its free time to entertain out-of-work thoughts such as her cheating fiancée, or so she suspects. She isn't sure yet, but the chances of it being true are taunting her. Her fiancée sent her a message that seemed to be meant for somebody else. "Sorry, babe, I can't meet you tonight, I will be offshore for two days, this order was so sudden, my boss just told me on the way to the ship, there had been some problems with the electrical installation for the newly built cruise ship, and I have to check on it personally. I might not be able to contact you until then. I promise I'll make it up to you. I love you!"  Was the content, sounds romantic, but what bothers her is, he never called her babe, and they didn't have a date, nor they promised to see each other last night because she is working the next day at first shift. So it bothered her to keep thinking, who did he mean to send it to. She tried to call him, but the number was out of reach, he must be offshore already, and since the ship is new, they must not have internet connections yet. "You should get a good rest tonight. Dark circles don't look good on you," Marie, another nurse for the next shift, came to the locker room to change into scrubs, jokingly said. "Thanks, Marie, I will remember that and sleep early tonight," answered Diane. They are all in good working harmony. Despite the toughness of the job, they have good working relationships. Some of the nurses are older than Diane. They are so understanding and accommodating, while some of the nurses who are younger than her are so eager to learn and teachable, which makes both ends of their working atmosphere more like a family, helping each other in every possible way. Such colleagues aren't so easy to find, and they all feel grateful to be working with one another. Even the ones who moved to other locations drop by once in a while to say hi or bring something to share with everyone in their free time, knowing the ones working here are working their asses hard every day, they understand and wants to lift their spirits in any simple way they can. Just like today, the people from the next shift brought some pizza to share with the ending shift people, sharing jokes or teasing one another before punching in or out on the Bundy clock for the day.  This kind of working experience had been so enjoyable for Diane that though the job is tiring and sometimes even stressful, just like when the patient or the family of the patient are difficult to deal with, trying to go even despite the doctor's order for health reasons, she still love this job so much that she is willing to sacrifice everything. Sometimes even working straight for sixteen hours when the other doctors are not possible to come. They have a quarter to sleep when they cannot go home at the hospital, so sometimes she just spends the night there and goes back to work the next day or shift. She is so dedicated that she forgets time when she's busy working. And her co-workers' worry and feel sorry about her sometimes. She always believes it in her heart that she took an oath to save lives. It doesn't matter whether on duty or not. When the situation calls, she is all up for it. She is becoming oblivious of her world outside work. She came to realize it's been a month since she met with Mark, her fiancée. They last dated during the OctoberFest celebration to have fun and join the beer party in town. Fortunately, then, it was her day off, she was able to spend time with Mark and their old college buddies. She and Mark had been together since the third year of college. They went to the same University, and though they took different Majors, as Diane took a Medical degree and Mark took an Electrical Engineering degree, they were still able to see and date each other in and out the campus.
