EPISODE I
"Mr. Wilding, how can I help you?" The governor held his hand out to me. "Mister Governor." I placed my hand in his and gave a firm handshake. My father taught me that's how you know a man is trustworthy. "You know Joe, we have known each other since we were kids. You don't need to address me that way." "Randy, it's called respect. How you got to this position without having any is beyond me?" As Randall Kent just said, we have known each other since we were kids. I'll tell you more about me later. I'm in his office with the hope I can acquire some land. I have a plan that will only work if I have a substantial amount of land. Randy has always helped me out. I never asked him for a favor that would compromise his position as governor. We have known each other since second grade. He was the new kid and was picked on right from the start. I am not going to tell you I didn't poke fun at him either, but I didn't take to the extent of making him cry. One day, I was sent to find him. He asked to go to the bathroom and it had been longer than normal. I found him in the corner of the last stall crying. The door was locked so I shimmied my way underneath. If he could've melded into the wall he would have. It turned out one of the fifth grade boys was going to beat him up after school. I didn't think picking on him would go that far. I didn't know what to say. I was eight years old and I didn't know how to fix it. He calmed down and I walked him to the nurse's office. I really felt bad for him. I returned to class and told the teacher he wasn't feeling good and that I had walked him to the nurse's office. We went out for recess and everyone was talking about it. I went to check on him after that. His parents couldn't come and get him, so he had to stick the day out and then walk home. I knew what I had to do then. I would get an ass whooping when I got home, but it would be worth it. That was the day Randy and I became best friends. "Funny. What's up?" "What is the state doing with that ghost town over by Riverville?" "Standing Falls?" "Yep. That's the one." "Nothing. It was abandoned after the locals there claimed it was haunted." "Do you think that the state will sell it?" "To you?" "Who else? Randy, you know what I'm looking to do." He knows about me and my family. "Do you know how big that place is?" "Dude. You act like I don't know how to run a town. You also act like I don't have the money either." "It must be nice to have daddy's money." That is the one thing Randy was always jealous of. His family lived comfortably, but my dad came from old money. He added to it, of course, the same way I do. Randy still has regrets about accepting the scholarship my dad offered him. "First off, you need to stop throwing that sh*t in my face. It's not my fault. Second, I'm a lawyer, and a fcking good one at that. I've made plenty of money in my few short years. Look at you. How many other states have a twenty-five-year-old governor? Don't act like my dad didn't help you with endorsements and campaign donations either. You reaped just about the same benefits as I did. He treated you like you were one of his own." "I'm sorry. I miss him." "I do too. I'm doing this in his name. He never had the chance to create his own place." I had to pick and choose my words while in his office. He recorded everything. "I'll look into it and get back to you. You know that place is falling apart, right?" "Randy, I got this." "Alright. I'll be in touch." I left his office. I know he will get it done. It may take a couple of months, but it's in the works now. Now I can tell you more about myself. My name is Joseph Wayne Wilding Jr., I'm the same age as Randy, twenty-five. I am also a werewolf. Unlike most werewolves, I wasn't raised in a pack. My sister and I were born and raised in Portlin, Georgia. It's harder to hide a pack in those parts. My dad, Joesph Wayne Wilding Sr., was an Alpha with no pack to speak of. He never had the chance to bring his dreams to life. Unfortunately, he lost his life last year in a car accident. My mom had passed away from a heart attack a few years prior. That leaves my sister Remmie Jo and myself. She is younger than me, just twenty years old. She's away at college. My father was working his hardest to get a pack started. He had dreams that I planned to make into reality. If you are wondering how I am a lawyer at twenty-five, that is thanks to my dad. I followed in his footsteps. I'm just as argumentative as he was, so there was no other job I was better suited for. I learned so much from watching him and helping him on cases. My schooling never stopped. I finished ahead of many of my classmates. I have an IQ of 140, many things came easy to me. Another reason Randy was somewhat jealous was that he had to work twice as hard. I helped him whenever I could. Before I graduated, I had a position at Frakes, Maddison, & Wilding. My dad was part owner of the firm. More than a part, he started the firm to be more exact. Fifty percent belonged to him. Now it belongs to me. I am your typical wolf. I'm 6'2", weighing around 250 lbs. I have blonde hair, short and cut into a fade. I won't lie, my face is chiseled. It looks like my skin was stretched to fit perfectly over my skull. No extra skin for my aunts and grandma to pull. It's always been like that. I have big blue eyes that people tend to stare at. I am a clean cut, dashing, and rugged young man. I have an athletic body. I was a jock in school. It made sense since my body has always been in shape from a very young age. It's not just my face that was perfectly sculpted. I do have a girlfriend, Manda Young. We started dating a few months before my dad was taken away from us. He didn't care much for her, but respected any choices I made, good or bad. I don't have to hide from her, she is a she-wolf. We aren't mates, but we know what the odds are of finding our mates. If you think otherwise, I'm sorry to say this, but you are delusional. Manda is 5'10". Like me, she has an athletic frame. She is a dancer and was a cheerleader. Her blue eyes were brought out by her dark brown hair. Her mom is a wolf, her dad is just a regular Joe. She's never known her dad. Her mom told her the story. The way she told me was that her human father was her mom's mate. She didn't want that. But, she knew the best chance in her life to have a baby would be to stick it out with him until she was knocked up. It took a year until it happened. Her mom admitted she screwed the second a test came back positive. She rejected him and moved here to Portlin to help her aging aunt. There is one thing that Manda lacks; a wolf spirit. It happens more than you think to be honest. She can still shift into her wolf form, she just doesn't have another voice in her head. I would love to know how that feels sometimes. My wolf, Zxanden, is the biggest pain in the ass. As most wolves do, he wants to find his mate. He tells me all the time Manda is no good for us. Or, he asks what will happen if we find our mate? He has so many questions that I have no answers for. I know how Manda feels. She doesn't love me and never will. How about I introduce you? "Hey, baby." My parents were affectionate to me and I pass the same enthusiastic passion on to everyone I meet. I'm more than happy to show the person I'm dating exactly how I feel about them. Even if it's just using a nickname. "Hi, Joe." That's how she greets me. Always. "How was your day?" "I can't teach those kids. You know, I don't know why parents decide it's a brilliant idea to sign up their teenager for dance. They barely have any reach. Their muscles and joints aren't as flexible as they think. Dance classes should start as young as possible." That is Manda. She is self-centered and arrogant. "At least you are giving the kids a chance." "I have no choice in the matter. I can't pick and choose who to teach." "Other than that, how was your day? Have you seen your mom?" "Yes. As usual, she pissed me off. I swear no one gives a fck about me." I don't care to engage her when she's like this. "I'm going to make supper." I kissed her cheek. "Seriously? I'm pouring my heart out to you and you're just going to walk away?" This is what she considers pouring her heart out? More like she's being a btch just because she can. "Manda, can we not do this?" "You are just as fcking selfish as everyone else I know." Here we go again. "Really? You live in my house, rent free. Your money is yours. You have no issues taking what you want from me, without asking, I'm going to add for the record. I do everything for you. I'm the only one that cares about you." "Whatever." That's what her response is when I hit her with the truth. She wants sympathy and she doesn't get it from me and she gets upset. Drama Queen, that's what she is. If she's not complaining or whining about not getting her way, she's not happy. Welcome to my world. "It's not, whatever. You think I don't know. Come on." I've known her secret for two months now. It hurts, but I've kept to myself. "Know what exactly?" "I thought Randy and I sharing p*ssy was done and over when we left college. Clearly, it's not." "How?" Before she could go on a rant, I spoke. Staying calm was a gift from my dad. He always reminded me to keep calm and level-headed. "I'm a wolf, Manda. Did you forget? Your scent was all over him today. You weren't at work, were you?" "I don't have to deal with this." She grabbed her keys and stormed out. Like I said, I've known for sometime about Randy and Manda. I knew it would never be permanent with her. I could've confronted Randy, but I needed his help. Does it hurt? You bet. Do I care? More than I'd like to admit. Am I mad at Randy? A little. He knew my relationship with Manda wasn't going anywhere. He took advantage of that. She's running to him as we speak. She's going to come home and beg me to forgive her. I will always forgive her. No matter what she does to hurt me, I always take her back. This time feels different. I know why. I need to speak with my therapist about this. Good thing I can text her and she will make a home visit. For a higher price, of course. Joe Could you squeeze me in this evening? Tessa I have time now. Is that good for you? Joe The door will be unlocked. Tessa See you in twenty. Let me tell you about Tessa. She is human, she knows I am not. I started seeing her after my dad passed away. His death was sudden and unexpected. I had no one to turn to. I was skeptical at first. Meeting Tessa, I could see she took her job with people's mental health seriously. By our third session, she called me out for hiding something from her. She knew it was big and told me I'd never get the proper help if I couldn't confide in her. We are not supposed to tell anyone what we are. My species at least has a strict code when it comes to disclosure and to whom we come out to. The more I fought to hide my secret, the more I found out I was hiding the biggest part of me. I drew up an NDA, non-disclosure agreement. If she wanted to know, she would have to sign it. If she spoke to anyone about me, she would owe me two million bucks. To my surprise, she signed it without reading it or questioning the contents. I told her what I was and she didn't flinch. She tricked me. She knew all along what I was. I can't help but smile every time I think about it. I heard keys hit the breakfast island behind me. "Tessa." I smiled at her as I said her name. "You know I have a date tonight. Feeding me now might look bad." I laughed at her now. Even an amazingly beautiful woman such as herself has a hard time finding someone she can annoy for the rest of her life. "If I don't cook for Manda I'll never hear the end of it." "You know how I feel after what you have told me." She knows it all. Except for the one thing I've been lying to myself about. "I hate admitting this. I love her. I know our relationship was never meant to go that far." "Joe." "You know she's fcking Randy." The words stomped out of my mouth. I would normally talk to Randy about this, but that is a dead issue since it's his fcking c*ck she's riding now. "Listen, you have to make decisions that make you happy. I've told you before, just because you love someone doesn't mean they were meant for you. We have to find the one that matches our energy." "I know. My decision is already made. I'm going to break up with her. I can't do this with her anymore. What do you say you cancel your date and spend time with me?" "I never mix business with pleasure. You aren't my type. I don't like them furry." "Nice jab at my expense. Do you think I'm being too hasty?" "That's not what you pay me for? We both know she's narcissistic and some other things that aren't professional for me to say. She's sleeping with your best friend. Joe, I think you are making a wise choice. I can't tell you what to do. I can only guide you. I'm hear to listen. No, I don't think you are being too hasty." The front door slammed and we both knew who it was. "Why is she here?" Here came Manda's famous attitude when it came to Tessa. Jealousy if you ask me, Tessa was beautiful and elegant. Something Manda would never amount to. "I'm here because Joe and I had an appointment." "More like you are still trying to fck him." Tessa was the only person that had the khauna's to laugh in Manda's face. "I'm sure Joe could find someone much better than little old me." "He already did. I'm standing right here." "Joe, I hope our session helped. I need to get ready for my date. Call me to schedule." "Thanks, Tessa." "I don't know why you think a human can help you." The door had just shut behind Tessa as Manda started in on me. "Manda, she helps me." "She only makes house visits in the hopes she can get laid." I wasn't about to get into it with her. "You came home just in time. Dinner is served." "You know, I'm not hungry for food right now." She walked around the island to stand in front of me. "What would you like?" She's never been that affectionate towards me, so when she wrapped her arms around me I didn't know how to react. "You and I get freaky." I knew she had gone to see Randy. It made me angry, to say the least. I leaned in and whispered in her ear. "Drop'em and lean over a chair." There were times, I'd have her in different rooms of my house. I prefer the bedroom; it's private. Tonight I wanted to show her I was better than Randy. I watched as her smile turned evil. She turned around and pulled out a chair. Looking over her shoulder at me while biting her bottom lip, she slowly pulled her jeans down over her round rump. I wasn't in a playful mood. I yanked them down the rest of the way and pushed her down onto the chair. Now that she was leaning over the chair, I pulled myself out. This woman had me so fcked up in the head that I couldn't even get my willy up. Giving it a few rough tugs still wouldn't wake him up. I pushed myself away from her. "Is something wrong?" "I can't." She stood up and turned around. "Can't what?" I wasn't going to try, so I put myself away and zipped up. "You could've at least had an ounce of respect for me." "What are you talking about?" I knew one of the reasons why I stayed soft. "I can smell his sperm. I have to mention I just saw it oozing out of your snatch." "I'm sorry, Joe. I told him not to." "I know for you our relationship is nothing but a joke. I love you, Manda. Why do you do things like that? I can't be with you anymore. You need to pack your sh*t and leave." "How can you love me, but throw me out?" "Because I love myself more. I've had it. I've been faithful to you, I know Randy was just the most recent one." "How come you didn't confront him? I know you went to see him today. He told me what you asked about. I thought I was going to be your Luna." That was my answer. That's all she wants is power. "Because I knew he would deny it until he spoke with you. You were never going to be my Luna. We both know that. You can't be honest with me. How would you be honest with a pack? You most likely would fck them all anyway. I know your games and I'm tired of them. Go pack your things." "You will regret this. I can promise you that." She stalked off to my room. I grabbed her keys and I left the house. I took her car, my car actually, and went to the hardware store for new locks. I wasn't going to play this time. I also made an important call. *It takes two to make a thing go right.* "I'm sure it does." I said out loud to the tone that plays when anyone calls Randy. "Joe, listen." "Randy, do me a favor. Go to my house and take Manda with you." "Is it because of me?" Not entirely, but he helped to open my eyes. "Just do it. I've had enough of her. I can't." "Can I ask what happened?" Do you see why he makes a good politician? He can lie straight to your face, or anyone else's, while pretending he's a friend. College was different, we didn't hide what we were doing and who we were doing it with. This time is different. "She just came from being intimate with you. She really thought I would stick my d*ck in her after you left your seed behind. Just come get her." "Alright, dude. I'm sorry, I know I fcked up." I hung up on him. I didn't want to hear anymore. Nice way for you to meet the important people in my life. Sorry.
