CHAPTER - 1
Not discourteous but an eccentric one he was .......... "Hurry up , Jane we're already late it's not Prague , have you forgotten ? " " Yes for the hundredth time ' it's Hanoi and it takes time even to reach the nearest store' I know and I think you should get down to Noodles" - mumbled Jane. " Noodles what are you nipping in that corner " Giving us a remorseful look she stands there still. And what I see is my favourite Pinafor torn off brutally with its fragments lying all over!!!! " hmmmffff !!!! " It has already been five months we've left Prague, and neither is Jane nor Noodles ready to accept the fact . Hanoi is one of the places I'd always wanted to visit. It has numerous splendors like Temple of Literature , Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology , Hoa Lo Prison Museum , Water Puppet Theatre , Military History Museum and an individuality of delectable cuisine, vibrant nightlife, silks and handicrafts, as well as a multi-cultural community that's made up of Chinese, French and Russian influences. ....and it's past is even more fascinating than the present , formerly in 1010 Ly Thy To (1009–1225) of Vietnam, chose this site and called Thang Long meaning “Rising Dragon” (for his capital) . We've not gone to a lot of places here and it's just because Noodles and Jane wanted a break ... But Prague was something different , it had something unique in its name as well it itself has as vast chronicle . I've never considered the visit to Prague as a part of my life because it was a hallucination for me . It has been four months and I can still not dare forget the bizzare escapades in Prague which took place from the day I'd been there. Let me unfold it from the very beginning . A year ago I and my best friend, Jane had moved to this new city called Prague . We love to travel together. I'd heard and browsed a lot on Prague before arriving , and what I loved knowing is it has well-preserved castles, Baroque and Gothic cathedrals, medieval squares, dreamy bridges, nightlife spots, and a lively arts scene. This is what convinced me to visit here with my bestie. We lived in the 26th floor of "Novotel London Canary Wharf" and had room no. 125 .The reason I chose this place to live in just because this place is pet friendly , for my Noodles . We had a huge grey rug at the entrance , followed by Olive Green themed - cosy couch having a beautiful painting of a " Tribal women wearing extremely ravishing trinklet , carrying a child" on top , a Sectional Sofa under the window , a Camelback near the dinning , a Chaise Lounge in the centre with an Ottoman Table, a pair of Accent chairs and Armchairs about the rug , Desks chairs with a ceramic statue on it near the Sofas with three Ottomans. , succeeded by the bedroom which had Colourful Mattresses, a dresser , a polka dotted carpet and a huge double-bed with mushroom lamps on the tables present on the either sides of the bed. We had a stupendous Awning Window .The view from the window was mesmerising, we could see flowers and trees fluttering with the wind on the other side of the road. Outside the window we saw may ivory doves and brilliant coloured butterflies . The scene outside made us realise what macrocosm is. Jane and I were enticed by the charismatic studio. The in-room dining of this Modern Hotel Apartment was astounding. The day we arrived , we ordered a Gazpacho Delight for me , a Mango Carrot Banana Basil Smoothie for Jane, and Noodles's all time favourite sugar - free Carrot Mango Spinach Smoothie to our room . I , Jane and Noodles had a small colloquy on what to do next, while I ordered A Waffle Benedict and some Pancakes with berry on top for our breakfast and a vegan yogurt with banana parfait for Noodles . In no time the breakfast arrived and the food was prettified beyond our expectations and was immensely scrumptious. Noodles was so excited that he started jumping on the couches and continued doing the same till he was downright tired . We didn't step out of the Inn that day and squandered the day adoring the stuffs in our auberge . In suite no. 72 lived Mr. & Mrs. Novák. Mrs. Novák was a pleasant lady , she avoided talking much whereas , Mr. Novák, a retired detective was of an extremely jolly personality . He has decoded a number of good cases , was an ethical neighbour of mine in the apartment. Every morning I would wish them wooping " Good Morning Mr. & Mrs. Novák. " from my balcony to theirs. He would come out and greet me with a gentle smile. Mr. Novák often shared stories of a lot of mystified cases he has solved . Things that obstacled him and things that helped him the most . So , Overwhelmed I and Jane were hearing how Mr. Novák had solved the cases we decided to take a Short Term Certificate in Private Detective Course from him . This is what made us stay 8 months in Prague. He used to recommend the best book we used to buy it from the nearest book store. Every weekend we would spend in the returaunts Mrs.Novák having breakfast and 'd discuss different cases. . He used to take us to the neighbourhood lawn teaching us human psychology, something that usually helps detectives in a long run. He'd tell us a story while our stroll and unexpectedly would catechize on the same . I and Jane would look like fools standing there. One he said that he'll be recounting one of his experiences to us.. And began delineating..... " This incident happened after I shifted to my new apartment with my younger brother in Paris city. I was excited . A few days he had to go out for a reception of one of his nearest friends in Chartres. It generally takes 2 hours for one way. They were about to come back by 10:00 p.m but its already 11:43 p.m . I was petrified . I tried calling him but , he wasn't not picking my calls or replying to my messages. Then the next day around 9:30 a.m somebody knocked at the door . When I went to open the door there were 2 policemen standing and asked me if I was Mr.Novák , I said “yes I am . But what is the matter?” The policemen said that “sorry sir but your parents died in a car crash and these are their Phones, Id's , you brother's pendant and wallet” I started crying and said thanks to the policemen and closed the door and ran to my room and cried all night. He asked us - " Now , Why do you think I believed those cops, instantly ? " We stood there gapping at him... He retorted with a creepy smile - " Because it wasn't an accident . It was a murder ! I murdered him ! I murdered my brother ! We were almost dead standing there. But what relieved us is when I and Jane took a brief stopove to the supermarket and when while going through some books we came across a book which had the incident narrated by Mr.Novák two days back ! The original story is written by a reputed Author Afrodille. And we discovered that were fooled my Mr.Novák. We used to visit him every evening and Mrs.Novák would serve us three cups of tea with some brownies and some chocolate ganache with a pleasant "Good evening, dear ! " wish. Noodles would always be treated with treatos ! We'd learn from Mr.Novák and gossip with Mrs.Novák. We enjoyed a lot learning from him. We questioned him of different cases and he'd answer them all for us . We'd every time be entrilled by his way of answering . Riddles and Brain teasers were just as if his piece of pie !
