Chapter 1
Chapter 1 Prince Ezerette Mclane Luck. That was the word that came to my mind when I had an emergency to pick my little brother, Eclair. My mother, once again, tried to hook me up with some slut I didn't even know. Her name was Penny. She was my mother's friend's daughter. She had this long brown hair, not natural, but still, it looked good on her. Her hair, so long, reached her hip level. She also had this big brown eyes, with flecks of gold and green and she looked like a Goddess wanting to be taken away by Romeo. And I was not Romeo. Her figure was petite, height was 5'1" compared to my 6'0". Penny was wearing a light blue dress-skirt, and the way she twirled, she could capture so many Romeos, but I was not one of the Romeos. I grinned as I saw my mom huffing, rolling her eyes at me. I had to thank my little brother, Eclair, later when we have time. I wonder what trouble he could be in. Eclair was very disobedient and didn't give a f**k about everything. He always got in trouble with his little antics. He was always in the Principal's Office, getting lectured about his life and attitude. He never listened anyway. Eclair got that from mom. Mom was the hard-headed one. It should be Dad, but I guessed the world was different to us, right? "Oh, mom. Eclair needs me," I whined. Little did she know, I was just using this opportunity to get out of the situation. Penny looked at me, as if she was almost giving me a smile. But I could tell it was fake. She was just trying to contain her anger. She's doing it right. "You know, mom, Eclair needs my help. And he's in big trouble right now. That kid. He never learns." I mumbled, rolling my eyes to add more effect. Mom sighed and motioned me to go. I nearly jumped out of my seat, eager to get away quickly. But I did the only thing I could, be civil. I gave them a smile that reached my ears and the girl, Penny, rolled her eyes. I guessed this was the first time that she got stood up. I mean, she was pretty and all, and also hot. But she was not exactly my type. So now, I was on the sidewalk, looking for a job whilst on my way to my brother's school. He only said that he got in trouble and never bothered saying the reason. Either way, I still had to thank him for saving my life. I almost agreed to my mom! She sweet talked me and Penny was just, hush, so beautiful. When I first saw her, I thought we would make a good couple. But then I remembered I was not interested in her. My eyes kept looking to my left and right, hoping that I would find a sign that says HIRING or ACCEPTING APPLICANTS. I knew I lacked of experience but why could I do? I didn't have a job. Plus, I needed to pay my tuition. College was important to me. And I was not going to waste my opportunity. I wanted to graduate and had a real job that suit what course I took. And only it would happen when I graduated college with a diploma in hand. Sighing, I strolled quickly so I could save my little brother about his misery. 10 minutes of walking and I was now inside the school's premises. The school was kind of big and it's a semi-private. His tuition was kind of expensive too. Mom and Dad were working hard so we could study. But somehow, Eclair was wasting it. I had already agreed that most of what Dad and Mom were earning, it would be for Eclair's tuition. This kid had a problem though. As I reached the Principal's Office, Jenny, the secretary, gave me a smile and a small, shy wave and I grinned at her. I was always at Eclair's school and most of the people working here knew me. By heart. I knocked at the door and heard Mrs. Pastel, the principal, told me to come in. I did. As I was entering the room, opening the door wide, my eyes landed on Eclair. He was fumbling with his fingers and looking down at his lap. He looked up at me and pouted. 16 years old and he looked like Satan. "Hi, Mrs. Pastel," I greeted, giving her a smile as I walked towards my brother who had a grim expression. "What has my brother done this time?" "Oh, nice to see you again, Mr. Mclane." Mrs. Pastel said, motioning me to take a seat across Eclair. She emphasized the word 'again'. I chuckled. "Well, your brother punched someone. I was supposed to call your parents but then I chose to call you since I know your parents are kind of busy. But, next time, I'll tell your parents. I know that this was your request, Mr. Mclane. But the next time he gets in trouble, I'll tell Mrs. and Mr. Mclane." "Sure, Mrs. Pastel. So can I bring him home now?" I asked, looking at Eclair. He still had a grim expression on his face. "Yes you may," Mrs. Pastel stated. She looked up at me and said, "Till we meet again. Soon." I laughed all the way until we got outside of school. Eclair never spoke. He was really quiet today and I wondered what happened that made him act this way. It was pretty weird since he had a large mouth and never got tired of opening his mouth. But this time, today was an exception. He had this deep look on his face, his mind was wandering somewhere else as we walked on the sidewalk to our house. Our house was just three or four blocks away, so it didn't really matter when we were walking. We were used to it. "So...." I spoke. Eclair looked up at me and tilted his head to the side, waiting for me to go on. "What happened?" "I punched a guy," he simply said, whipping his head back to the front direction and his phase started to go faster. He was keeping something. "That's not the real issue, is it?" I pressed, wanting to squeeze out the answer from him. He looked at me again and this time, his expression was sad. I almost reached out to his hand, my protective side coming out but then he stepped away. "There must be something wrong with me, Eze." Eclair said, looking down at his feet. His hands were on the hem of his white shirt, toying with it. He always did that when he's feeling uncomfortable or something. "I'm... scared." "Let's talk when we get home," I said, taking a step forward and hugging him. He pushed me slightly and groaned. I laughed. He didn't like being babied. "I won't tell mom and dad that you got in trouble day. But I think it must have slipped from my mouth because mom brought a girl to be my date and I was so desperate to go out so when you called or Mrs. Pastel called, whatever, I took the chance. But don't ya worry brother, I'll cover you." "Asshole," he said, shaking his head in amusement. "Was the girl beautiful or not? Hot or blah?" I thought back to the first time I saw her. "Yes. She's hot and beautiful. But definitely not my type. I still have to finish College, you know. Not to mention I'm still looking for a job. It's hard. So I guess I'll do my first priorities and love life later." "You're hopeless," he mumbled and shook his head as we continued to walk, our house falling into view as we reached our block. When we reached the house, Dad was already at home and so did Mom. She was in the kitchen, cooking chicken curry for supper. Mom eyed Eclair and I suspiciously, probably thinking if Eclair did get in trouble. I had yet to make a story for this. Impromptu. Mom went back to cooking and Dad was in the living room, watching a sports channel. Our house was just small. It might be considered as average but small. It had two levels. We had a garage, where the old, mini rusted van was parked and no one had used it for quite a time now. One of my plan was to refurbish it. The walls were painted cream and this house belonged to the typical category. Pictures were pinned on the wall, with some designs plastered on it. On the door frame that led to kitchen, was the marks of pencil that we drew so we could track our height. So far, Dad was leading. He was 6'3" for Hell's sake. Eclair ran upstairs and I sighed. I still had to talk to him over what happened earlier. I kissed mom on the cheek and she hummed in response, too busy to even open her mouth. She liked cooking. "So, how's Eclair?" Mom asked me as she continued to stir the curry. My mouth practically watered and the scent invaded my nose. It didn't help my stomach to calm down though. In fact, it made it worse. I hadn't eaten anything while we were in the restaurant. Obviously, I was busy planning on how to ditch the date. "Well," I said, looking up at the ceiling, as if the supposed-to-be story was written there. "He's okay. A little tired. But okay. He... joined the soccer team. He needed help." I made up a story. Oh the lies. God would love me very much. "Really?" Mom said, looking at me over her shoulder. I nodded. Eclair didn't even know how to kick a ball. I guessed I had to teach him. I knew how to play soccer but not much. "Your father would be proud when he knows this." "Don't!" I said, half shouting. Mom raised her brow at me and put her hand on her hip. s**t. "I mean, I'll be the one to break the news on him. Leave it to me, okay?" Mom nodded slowly. "Okay. Get Eclair. Supper will be served in minutes." "Okay," I responded, leaving the kitchen. I went upstairs and called Eclair. I entered his room without bothering to knock and saw that he was sprawled on his bed. He had a distant look on his face. He never bothered speaking again. Usually, he would rant about me being rude if I came to his room without asking permission. But today, he was quiet and behaved. Creepy. "She could be your new thang, you know," Eclair said as he kept looking at the ceiling. I frowned at her. "You told me the girl was beautiful. Give her a chance." "Nope," I said, popping the p ash I shook my head. "What's with this?" He sighed. "I..." "Why do you think there's something wrong with you?" I asked him direct to the point. He was almost taken aback from my forwardness but he just shrugged. "Tell me. I'm your brother. You can tell me everything." "Well," he sighed again. A frustrated sigh. He shut his eyes and took a deep breath. "I went on a date. With a girl. And he brought a guy. The guy was the one I super really hate. Could you believe it? My nemesis? She brought my nemesis! And that guy tried..." "Eclair! Ezerette! Get your ass down here and let's eat." Dad shouted over downstairs. Eclair sighed and I told him we're going to finish the conversation. He nodded slowly and we both headed downstairs so we could satisfy out stomachs and get everything done.
