Chapter 1 - Kaitlyn
The vibration of my phone rips me, even before the ringing of my alarm clock, from sleep. Slowly I open my eyes and regret having immediately positioned the smartphone there last night. Since I can not sleep anymore anyway, I get up to push the curtain aside. Now the morning sunlight streams into my room and raises my mood promptly. Although my first day at the new school does not really worry me, I'm still excited. But who would that be please, when changing from secondary school to high school? But fortunately, I raise the, most important for me, people with me. I take a look at my phone and read the message from said person, who is by far my best friend and longtime neighbor, Henry Davis. Henry: Hey darling. Are you already awake? His words make me smile and I run to the window, hoping to spot the blond boy at the window. However, I see him nowhere in my field of vision, which tells me that he still has to lie in bed. That's typical again! Kailtyn: Hey, you sleepyhead. Get up. I do not want to be late on your first day of school because of you. The message barely sent, his answer follows promptly and I see him pushing his blanket to the side and getting out of bed. Relieved, I go to my wardrobe and open it. While I search my things, I briefly scan the message. Kaitlyn: As you wish, my lady. If we were to be late, that certainly would not be up to me. When I read that, I can not help but roll my eyes. That was clear again. I quickly write back before I pull my sleep shirt over my head and slip out of my hot pants. Henry: Yeah, believe that if it makes you happy. To prove to him that he is wrong, I set out to look for the right clothes. Henry: Oh, what am I seeing there? Put on something else. Not that any sick stalker use this chance to gawk. Since it seems to be pretty much why, I opt for a white summer dress and sneakers in the same color. Kaitlyn: Stop watching me, you little stalker. You should get ready, otherwise I'll come over and help you get dressed. I look out the window and give him a warning look. Shortly he reads the message, then grins and takes off his shirt. I playfully roll my eyes, but watch him anyway, as he runs his fingers over his six-pack with an amused grin and wiggles seductively with his eyebrows. Henry: That's a tempting idea. Maybe next time, sweetheart. With a contemptuous look on my face, I turn my eyes away from him and tie my dark brown hair into a high but loose ponytail. Then I reach for my backpack and pack the case and college pad. Luckily I do not have any books, but that will come soon enough. After I'm done in the bathroom, I run down the stairs to have something to eat, before I go on the way to school. The new school is further away than the old one. Therefore, I prefer to go earlier and test how long I need to dawdle on the way. Arrived in the kitchen, I discover my father, who struggles with it to get along somehow. Now that Mom's been promoted, he's alone with me on Monday mornings and was told by my mother to make me food before I leave. Since he does not necessarily often - but still more often than me - in the kitchen, it presents him with a more than great challenge. "Hey darling," he greets me, "how was your morning?" "Very good," I answer honestly and prop my elbows on the plate of the bar. "Do you want to have breakfast or do not have time to do that anymore?" He asks. I let my eyes wander around the room. When I realize that he still seems to have nothing prepared, I shake my head and grab instead of a simple peach from the fruit basket: "Alright, I eat on the way." Relief is on his face and he hands me a lunch bag: "Okay, this is your lunch, do you need any more money?" It should be noted that Mom usually takes over this job. I shake my head: "No, Mom did that yesterday." "Did I forget anything else?", He looks at me uncertain. Once again, I refuse: "That was actually everything, so I prefer to go." "Okay," he takes a few steps towards me and hugs me briefly, which is completely atypical for him: "Good luck at the new school, hopefully you have fun." "Thanks," I return the hug briefly and then put the paper bag away: "See you this afternoon." "Yes, see you," he replies, as I walk to the front door, take my jacket from the rake and then leave the house to pick Henry up.
