In this second installment, Joel works hard trying to grab Eve’s attention. Joel believes that the way to Eve’s heart is being someone different than he has always been. Instead of being controlling and manipulative, Joel tries to be the gentleman that he thinks Eve wants. However, what Eve really desires is that controlling guy, someone that will take what he wants when he wants it. Will Eve push Joel to his limits and cause him to show her just who he really is after all?

Chapter One
“Are you f*****g kidding me?!” I blew out the breath I was holding, amazed by the news that Mia just shared with me. “See! Didn’t I tell you that something was going on with you? Congrats. If your happy, so am I.”            Truthfully, I was happy for Mia. I never imagined that she and I would be friends, but she came to be my best friend, not like I had very many to choose from, but still. Mia and Cole were these lovebirds that met before my time in high school. The first time that I saw Cole, I nearly had a f*****g orgasm just standing there. He was so sexy that it was hard not to think of him in all the ways my mind toyed with me. If I had been that vindictive b***h that I was in high school, I would have tried to steal him right up underneath her, but Mia was equally as gorgeous as he was. I didn’t have a fat chance in hell with the guy, but hey, I could at least imagine it.            Now, these two were the picture-perfect couple. Mia told me all about how good Cole was in the sack, and before long, these two were engaged to get married, and Mia was now knocked up. I was happy for them, but it also set heavy in my heart. With Mia being pregnant and engaged now, we wouldn’t be able to hang out as often as we used to, not that I would blame her. She had priorities now. I guess I would have to settle with Gavin for now, although I’m sure he secretly doesn’t like me.            Mia hugged my neck tightly. “Thank you, Eve! I want you to be my maid of honor for the wedding. Cole and I have talked about it a lot, and I can’t think of anyone else that I would rather have than you.”            I smirked at her, clearly at a loss for why the hell she was asking me. The only dress I have ever worn was a dark black lace one, which barely covered my goods. I’m pretty sure those kinds of dresses wouldn’t be allowed at her grand wedding.            “Um, I don’t mean to sound ungrateful or anything, but what about Gavin? The two of you have been best friends way longer than we have. Don’t you think he will be a little upset if you ask me to be your maid of honor instead of him?”            Mia let out a low chuckle, grabbing onto my shoulder. “I’ve already talked to Gavin, who is happy being a bridesmaid. Come one! It’s one day, Eve. Please?”            I was too much of a sucker for this s**t. “Fine!” I snapped. “Just whatever hideous dress you pick out, make sure it has something black to go on it or with it. Have you guys set a date yet?”            She nodded. “Yeah. May 6th. It’s right as the weather starts to get good. Cole reserved the entire beach for us too.”            Of course, he did, I thought while rolling my eyes. “Nice,” I smiled through my obvious pain. “Are we going to talk about who his best man is, or is it who I presume it to be?”            Mia’s expression changed with a snap of my fingers. “I didn’t ask you to be my maid of honor because Joel was his best man, if that is what you were thinking. I asked you to be my maid of honor because I love you like a sister. In these past few years, you have become one of the most important people in my life. Your opinion matters to me, and you never hold out on me. Eve, you always give me your honest opinion, and that is something that I respect more than you know. Don’t think that this has anything to do with Joel.”            You sleep with a guy one time, and everyone thinks that you are suddenly meant to be f*****g soul mates. It was ridiculous. Instead of ruining her moment, I sighed and smiled. “Okay,” was all I said in response.            We were right around the corner from Mia’s place. She had moved in with Cole full time, which was expected. I don’t know how the guy did it, but he gave that girl everything her heart desired, along with a massive house right on the beach. Gavin and I still lived together, though it wasn’t exactly the easiest living arrangement. Nowadays, all he did was bring random guys home with him almost every night, and I would have to listen to them f*****g all hours of the night.            “Everyone is planning on meeting us here in the next few minutes,” Mia finally let slip through her lips.            I gave her an icy glare. She knew how I hated hanging out with Cole’s immature friends. Plus, I had to deal with Joel staring at me all night like a damn creep. When Mia said we would have to work through our awkwardness because we all ran in a circle together, she wasn’t kidding.            “Is Gavin joining us?”            Mia nodded. “Yes, but he will be late, as usual. He is finishing up on set with another episode.”            Gavin had been the primary one paying all the bills, which was why I couldn’t exactly open my big mouth and say anything about the company he brought over with him. He had a big television show that he was working on that paid really well. I, on the other hand, haven’t found my groove yet. After graduating from music school, my aspirations shifted. I once had dreams of becoming a DJ or something like that, but music has slipped away into existence for me. I was primarily an artist now, which didn’t pay s**t. Drawing and painting was a great escape for me. It allowed me to show all the sides that I had, and I could be as open as I wanted. Most people didn’t have the eye to interrupt what my art meant anyway. Apparently, I wasn’t as good as I thought because I had only sold three pieces.            I was about to get up and go to the bathroom when all the guys walked in. Cole stepped in first with Soren, Maverick, Ace, and lastly, Joel following in behind him. Cole walked over to Mia, planting a sweet kiss on her cheek. I wanted to vomit at the romantic gesture.            Cole had signed his old house over to Joel, but the guys mostly used it for a getaway home now. They would rent it out during the winter months and keep it open for parties and such during the warmer months. Cole convinced his friends to move here to LA so that they could all be closer. You could tell these guys hardly ever spent a day apart because they were so far up each other’s asses it was ridiculous.            “How are you doing, Eve?” Cole asked as he sat down next to his fiancé.            “Ah, you know me, living on a cloud,” I remarked, earning a laugh from the guys. Mia cut her eyes at me, pleading with me to be nice, but that was hard to do when you had eyes on you that never left. “Yeah, so I’m going to go play some pool.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------            Every time that I saw Eve, the tension only grew. Cole had told me that Mia has tried putting in a good word for me with Eve, but she only shuts her down. I didn’t understand this chick at all. We had great s*x. I mean, it was mind-blowing s*x, the kind you only see in movies or read in a book, not that I read.            When Eve got up to shoot some pool, I almost got up and followed her, but I didn’t want to be too clingy. It was better if I distanced myself, but that was easier said than done. The girl was attractive as hell, and because I knew how she tasted, it made it that much harder to stay away from her.            “Go ask her out, man,” Soren remarked, watching me stare at her from our table. “You clearly still have the damn hots for her. Hell, at the very least, go tell her how much you still want to f**k her.”            All the guys busted into laughter except for Cole. Even Mia was utterly silent, trying to avoid any eye contact with me. I hated that it was this f*****g awkward when we all wanted to hang out. Cole’s and Mia’s wedding was less than six months away, and if it was anything like it was right now, this wedding would be impossible to try and get through. Eve couldn’t stand being in the same room with me for more than a few seconds. Think of how bad that would be having to sit through a whole wedding together.            I was happy as hell for Cole. After all, he has been my best friend for a long time, but it was hard not to be jealous. Seeing them so happy with each other has given me a different view of where I saw my life. We were all getting older now, and sleeping with a different girl every night, or multiple a night, wasn’t appealing as it once was.            Before I could talk myself out of it, I got up from the table and started toward the pool tables. The guys made a big deal about it, of course, making kissing sounds as I walked away.            “Hey, Eve,” I said casually while placing my hand beside her on the pool table. She was playing a game all by herself and didn’t even look up at me.            “What do you want, Joel? I thought I made it clear the last time we talked. I’m not interested in any kind of relationship with you.” Eve finally looked up, sending a heat wave straight to my c**k with her penetrating gaze. “We had mind-blowing s*x one time while we were both drunk out our mind. I don’t even remember half that night anyway. How is it that you do?”            I shrugged, trying to stare at the pictures on the wall behind her instead of directly into her eyes. “I drink a lot, so I’ve built up a tolerance to it. It takes me a long time to get drunk. You should know that I can do more than just the s*x, Eve. Give me one chance. Let me take you out on a date just to show you that there is more to me than the guy you think that I am.”            Eve was actually considering it, letting her bottom lip roll around in her mouth. Geez, this was torture watching her. Truthfully, right now, I wanted to bend her over this pool table and rip her clothes off. Seeing as how I didn’t think that would earn me any pointers with her, I refrained.            She walked over to me, placing her right hand on my chest, letting her fingers trickle down toward the waistband of my pants. “If I were to agree to this, where would you take me?”            My heart nearly launched out of my chest, making my breath catch in my throat. “I would take you out to dinner and a walk on the beach after dark.”            Her laugh pissed me off and made me want to wrap my hand around her throat just to show her who was really in control of her. I swear if I didn’t like her so damn much, I would show her just who she was messing with. No woman ever could tease me like this and get away with it, but with Eve, I would let her do anything she wanted to me.            “No chance in hell, lover boy,” Eve said. She placed her stick down onto the pool table and strutted away from me, leaving me horny and frustrated.            Just to be the asshole that I knew I could be, I raced past her, grabbing onto some random girl’s wrist right in front of her and sticking my tongue down her throat. When Eve walked past me, I was hoping to see an ounce of pain or jealousy, but there was nothing there other than that smirk of her that drove me damn near crazy.
