I
Good Morning, Chester. I bought you--." Kimberly's hand stopped midair when someone else's blank face opened the door. Recognizing who was before her, she faked a smile and pushed her irritation aside. "You're up early." She grinned even more fakely before spatting in a deathly serious tone, "Where's your brother, Jace?" The man she was talking to didn't reply. Instead, he just remained looking at her with an expression even blander than a no-sugar coffee. That was fine. She knew that it was his defaulted mood. "I supposed your brother is still here, right?" she snapped at him when she couldn't take his indifferent gaze anymore. His towering height was causing her delicate neck to ache, yet she had no plans of stepping away. "I brought breakfast." Kimberly lifted the bowl in her hand to him. If bribing was the only way for her to see Chester, then so be it. "It's your favorite--" "Since when had you been interested in my favorites, Kim?" he cut her off with his usual bedroom voice. Her mind screamed when its velvety tone hit her in all the wrong spots, but then she immediately killed the mood. Instead, she inched closer to the gap between the man and the door. "I've been interested in it since you unwantedly became Chester's brother." "He's still as sleep." Jace moved his arm lower, tactically blocking her way when she tried to squeeze under it. That made her frowned. "Jace, I am not going to rape your brother, and if I do, it's going to be rape with consent. You can stop acting like a bulldog guarding the house--" "What you say?" She let out a slow whistle. If only she didn't regard him as her future brother-in-law, she would love to smack the living daylight out of him. How was it even possible for Chester to have a brother like this? Aren't the two from the same set of genes? Closing her eyes to dismissed how this brute fooled her about Chester's whereabout yesterday, she tapped her shoes against the floor. "Let me in, Jace." "For once, can you stop acting like a child, Kim? Go home, and have a life-- Hey!" She deadpanned his reaction when he pushed him out of her way. A second more, and she was already between him and the doorframe. She almost made it past when Jace trapped her made that swift move. He pressed her against the door with both of his elbows propped on either side of her head. She regretted breathing when her nose took a whiff of his natural manly scent mixed with aftershave. But the hell? What on earth were they doing? How did her attempt to escape him ended up as intimate as this? Being just a little over five feet, her face ended up exactly next to his toned chest. They were so close that she could feel his breath on her hair. More than embarrassed, she felt weirded out. Certain that she had to move away, yet unsure of how to. Kimberly readied herself to say something nasty. Swallowing, she bobbed but then instantly regretted it when her gaze met his. Her heart went in limbo. She couldn't tell why. "Kimberly... " It was just an almost silent call, very low, yet it made her eyelids felt heavier. She had never heard her name mentioned as sexy as that. Never. Her heartbeat was erratic, and felt like it was inside her ears. Unconsciously, she gave in to the need and closed her eyes. There was this type of energy that was making her stop thinking. Although uncalled, she found herself waiting for his lips to graced hers. Until... Jace's laughter broke the magic moment and made her eyes flutter in horror. 'Oh my God!' She looked worse than someone having a nightmare while wide awake when her wits came back. There was satisfaction in all over Jace's face, and she sure wanted to just melt. "Move," she tried to stop him from continually exploding into a fit of laughter. At twenty-four, Kimberly could swear that this was the worst humiliation she had so far. Before she even thought of the next thing to do, her palm already swung straight on Jace's face. The slap made him shut up. He was even in a daze for a moment as if he couldn't believe what just happened. He didn't look hurt, just surprised. Thus, she took that opportunity to slip away, leaving him standing by the front door. "I brought breakfast." She was back to being jolly upon meeting Mrs. Eilish by the living room. The older woman was smiling widely at Kimberly as if she was already expecting her that morning. "Are you kids fighting again?" It was Mr. Eilish who asked, putting his coffee down. He was sitting next to his spouse while reading the newspaper. "Vietnam war had been over for decades. You guys are not kids anymore. When are you guys going to stop?" "Probably once your younger son learned how to be like his older brother," Kimberly sarcastically answered. She knew the Eilishes since childhood and even went to the same school as the brothers. She also knew much the older Eilishes dotted at her. Thus, she was comfortable sneaking into their house. "You kids are growing old. Aren't you and Jace tired of your frenemy stage--" "You're a doctor. You should know the difference between a man and a woman." Jace's voice cut his dad off as he walked to the kitchen. He went past the door, straight to the fridge, then grabbed an ice pack and casually pressed it on his face. "If you are thinking of finally blessing that person as Chester's girlfriend. Think one hundred times, dad. Kimberly is a man--" "Shut it!" "What's wrong, aren't you, Kimberly?" The brute peaked through the kitchen door, raising an insulting eyebrow at her. "Always one of the boys. Punch like a boy. Why? Because you are a boy--" "Jose Carreon!" It was Mrs. Eilish that shut their casual banter. The older woman then grabbed her coffee, sighed in frustration, then reprimandingly looked at her son. "Seriously, Jace, what's wrong with you?" Then she turned to Kimberly, who was already walking towards the stair to the second floor by that time. "And you young lady, where do you think you're taking that dish? The kitchen's right there. Hand that to Jace." Kimberly's feet stopped. It was only then that she realized that she was still holding her bowl of casserole. "You know what?" Mr. Eilish finally found a moment to comment something. "Why don't you two just get married? I won't mind. We've known Kimberly for so long, and you two are a match. You'll make a good couple--" "No!" " No!" Jace and her voice choired when they both snapped. She was about to retort about how Jace made his refusal sounded like she was the worse of them, but then Jace talked faster than her. "The only time I'm gonna marry that person is once she grows some sense and learns how to keep her words." Then he laughed sarcastically. . . . . ' Marry me once I grow sense and keep my words?' Kimberly rolled her eyes upon remembering what Jace's said. She was already standing right in front of Chester's room and yet still couldn't bring herself to knock. What on earth was Jace talking about? She couldn't even remember any promise she didn't keep. More so, with him. Shaking her head to dismiss the confusing thoughts, she decided to open the door and stepped in. She was used to being there that she didn't feel any discomfort at all when she saw Chester sleeping. "Sweet baby Jesus..." she whispered under her breath when her eyes landed at his chiseled face. The man was six years ahead of her, and he was every girl's dream-- handsome, neat, and fit. Chester was lying on his back with one of his arms resting on his forehead. His eyes were closed, and he was half-naked with just the quilt covering his lower part. His broad chest was in full view, and his abs were peeking through the blanket. He was eye-candy and a successful account manager at one of the biggest banks they had in their city. Sighing, Kimberly nodded her head and smiled in admiration, "Now that's what you call a perfection--" "Is it now?" Then suddenly, there was that familiar voice that cut her off. It was too late for her to realize that she wasn't alone in the hallway anymore when she turned her head. "Oh, so the devil just rose from hell to follow me, huh?" "Correction, the devil caught a lunatic watching and ogling on his sleeping brother. That's what happened." Kimberly frowned at Jace. "You know what, if you are that jealous of your brother, why don't you try being like him." Then she c****d her head. "But your not Chester, of course. You'll just end up as a pathetic trying hard if you even try." "Oh, yeah?" "Yes." " How about you get your ass off here before I..." "Before you?" Jace didn't answer her anymore and just smirked. Then without any word, he walked into Chester's room, went straight to the closet, and started taking his shirt off. "W-What the hell are you doing? For Christ sake, Jace--" "My room's under renovation. So yeah, you're not just peaking in Chester's room. This is my room too... for now." "J-Jace, the private bathroom is right there--" "Why are you so scared of seeing me, Kimberly?" Jace shot her an irritated glare. "Chester's naked under that sheet too. What's the difference?" She was stupefied. In all honesty, Jace had a physique that would make models run for their money. Not too buff, but definitely not slinky. He was toned everywhere with no excess. In short, gorgeous. " This is not my brother's, but I hope you're enjoying the view as much," he gritted, obviously irritated that she was still looking at his brother. "What? Still not enough?" Kimberly wasn't able to talk. She forgot how to. "Well, I supposed silence means yes." That was when Jace went for the buckle of his belt. "Oh my God, Jace!" she snapped, wanting to walk away but then couldn't. "You're embarrassing." "I wasn't the voyeur." he countered, pointing himself before pointing at her. "You are." "I came to wake Chester up--" "I got a job, and I need to ready in a few. Do you mind getting out of there?" Jace, coldly her cut off, forcing her to step back when he grabbed the edge of his jeans. "Well, it's fine if you don't want to. I don't really mind. Just keep looking and--" "Die, Jace." she waved her hands off, finally finding the strength to walk away. What was it that got into her anyway? Why did she even stay there? And worse, even enjoyed watching the devil strip?
