The Hybrid's Daughter: Sequel to The Hybrid's Wife

Aubrielle: “How are you?” Father asked me. “Fine.” I told him as I looked around the empty restaurant. “What’s going on?” Mother looked at me with a sad face, but father kept his serious. “Aubri, you know we love you, right?” Father asked me. There he f*****g goes. He said that every damn time whenever something was wrong or he had to do something. “Dad, just cut to the point.” I rolled my eyes. “None of that lovey dovey thing you do before you announce bad news, okay?” Father sighed and nodded his head. “You’re getting older now and it’s about time you live away from us.” Mother joined in. “So, you’re kicking me out?” I asked them with a raised eyebrow. “Don’t think of it as that.” Father said. “We put you in a school that we knew you’d like.” Mother handed me a brochure and I took it from her fast. “A Hybrid Academy?” I questioned. “What am I? A f*****g freak to you guys?” “No, you’re not.” Mother shook her head. “And you won’t be alone there. All of the children born in Hybrid Association will be going as well. It was decided amongst Daniel and Brooke, your grandparents.” Of course… I sighed and tossed the brochure on the table. “So, when do I leave?” I asked them. “Tomorrow morning.” Father stated.  “So, you’re sending me away with a bunch of boys? Did you guys forget that I was the only girl born in the Hybrid Association or you just didn’t give a f**k?” “Language, Aubrielle.” Father corrected me. “And you’re the only girl in our family. There will be girls there. Plus, your cousin, Ace, is going to be going as well. We just want to make sure you are safe, that’s all.”  “Not this with my great grandparents again.”  “Yes, Aubrielle.” Mother told me. “You need to know that you are in danger if they get their hands on you.”  “They won’t, so why do you guys worry so much?”  “We worry because you are our daughter.” Father stated. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my soda from the table. Father sighed and leaned back in his seat. “Now, when we get back to the house, you are going to pack and get your belongings together. Your flight is first thing in the morning.” “Flight to where?”  “Oregon.” Mother said. “I thought it was here?”  “No.” Father said. “They put the school out there to give you guys space from us.” “Whatever.”  I finished my drink and slammed the plastic cup on the table, cracking it a little bit. Then, I got up and looked at both of them. “I’ll be in the car.” I told them and walked off.  *** 2am, the next day: I had nothing to say to my parents, but I hated to admit that I was glad to finally break away from their isolation. Being able to breathe was something I could get used to.  “Do you have your phone?” Mother asked me.  “Of course I do.” I told her. “Don’t blow my phone up.”  “I won’t, but I would like to call to talk about your day. You’re going to a University. Something I never got to really do.”  “Well, now you can since I’m not going to be with you.” Mother sighed and looked the other way.  “Okay, I got it.” I heard a familiar voice. “We’re just making sure, baby.” A female’s voice I had recognized well, had said.  “Mom, I’m fine. I have everything. Dad, tell her.” I turned around and confirmed it. My cousin Ace showed up and of course, his parents were acting like mine. Ace looked around until he saw me and he gave me a wave. I waved back, excited to be with someone I knew.  “Your brother’s here.” Mother told father. And not just him. All of father’s brothers started showing up with their teens right beside them. Father and mother got up and I joined them as we went to greet them. “I was wondering if that was you?” My uncle, Kade, smiled as he extended his hand to his brother. ‘How are you?” “Tired.” Father answered. “How are you doing?” Ace walked over to me and we walked away from the others.  “You ready?” Ace asked me as we took our seats next to our gate. “Not really.” “You’ll be fine.” “Yeah as long as you’re there with me, I’ll be okay.” Ace was the only cousin I was close with. The others, not so much. It sucks because I got a lot I want to meet, but Ace makes me feel safe. I just hoped he continued to hang out with me. Ace and I continued to talk until our gate number was called. It was time to leave. Ace was the first to get up, but me… Not really. Ace stopped and turned around to face me. “I’m coming with you.” He told me. Yeah, for a little bit. I could already see how it was going to go. Ace was going to make his own friends. There was no room for me. I could already feel it. Sighing, I got up and was ready to head to the gate. “Ace and Aubrielle!” Uncle Kade called our names.  The both of us turned around and walked back to our family. Mother quickly wrapped her arms around me. “I’m going to miss you.” She whispered to me. “Mom, you’re squeezing me.” I groaned.  She released me, then I turned to my father.  “You two, stay together.” Uncle Kade told us. “Ace, we had a talk already.”  “I know.” Ace nodded.  “We had those talks with all of our kids, Christian.” Jai said. “All of them know.”  “And yet, my daughter only knows one cousin of hers.” Christian remarked. “Don’t do that.” Laiken added. “We’re here and they know better than to turn on family.” My eyes shifted to Laiken’s son, Lucias. He looked at me before his eyes shifted to my father.  “Ugh.” I sighed in a low tone. Ace looked at me and chuckled.  “Last call for gate 10A!” The woman at the desk spoke into the speaker.  We were going to be late. After saying our goodbyes, Ace and I rushed to the flight attendant and handed her our tickets. Once she checked it, we rushed inside and got on the plane. We took our seats and thank goodness, Ace and I sat beside each other. We put our seat belts on and watched the others come and take their seats. Lucias sat across from us and as soon as he took our seats, he turned to us. “I hope I don’t have to f*****g babysit you.” He said to me. “Trust me, I don’t want to be anywhere near you.” I told him.  “Well, if Ace isn’t around, I’m going to have to be. And trust me, you’re the last person I want to be caught dead with.” He turned back to his seat and I rolled my eyes at him before I looked out the window. Ace patted me on the shoulder and I looked at him, giving him a small smile. “Just get to know everybody.” He told me. “I’m not like you, so I have no reason to be.” I whispered. “Your time will come. Don’t rush it.”  He turned back to his phone and I just sat in my seat. Yeah, I forgot to mention that part. I have nothing to show to the family. I don’t crave blood like the others and I don’t crave raw flesh. I don’t shift and my eyes don’t turn that crimson color I want so much. So, to my cousins’, I am a complete nobody. I’m the freak that came in that perfect family. And believe me, it f*****g sucks balls. School is going to be hard for me. And the other family members are going to be the reason why I keep to myself. Because, I’m the outcast of the family. The runt.
