“The terms of agreement in this marriage are very simple, you stay out of my business and I stay out of yours. You can never be the kind of woman I want in my life, this marriage is solely political” Chase said with a look of disgust on his face.

“I don’t mind, as long as you keep your part of the bargain” Francesca said trying to hide the pain that she felt from his words, but she was used to hurtful words.

Chase turned around and left her without a second thought.

Francesca felt all alone, she suddenly reminded herself that all her life she had always been alone and she did just fine, this time was not going to be different.

She dedicated all her free time to being better. She invested in books and online skills, although since the marriage she had not even seen Chase. She had a bitter-sweet feeling. Her 18th birthday was fast approaching and she didn’t know what to expect. Ever since she was a little girl, she was different from other werewolves, she was weak and she struggled to shift like others. Her stepmother and sisters even made fun of her. She had a lot of questions on her mind

“Was Chase really her mate? And is she really just a political mate?”

She shook her head rigorously as soon as she realized that she was thinking about him. She remembered how angry Gloria was when he asked her to be his wife, she shrugged off the horrific feeling and tried to focus on her day’s activities.

“Get ready, we’ve been invited to a party and try not to embarrass me, I’ll send the driver to get you”

Chase said mockingly and as he turned around to leave, he suddenly stopped in his track and told her to not say a word while at the party, without even turning to look at her but she could feel the seriousness of those words

Will she be his mate after all? Will the marriage survive even a year? She’ll have to wait to find out

Chapter one
“Francesca!” Gloria shouted at the top of her voice from the hallway of the main house, forcing Francesca out of her thoughts and she came running to the hallway. “Yes mother, you called me.” “Damn right I called you, you good for nothing girl!” She said, giving her a hateful glare. “How many times have I told you not to stay a day without sweeping and mopping the hallways? I know you don’t have any sense in that thick skull of yours but at least you should have the decency to remember all that someone has thought out for you.” “But mother—” Wham! Her head whipped to the side as she landed a hot slap on her left cheek. “Do not speak while I am still speaking,” she yelled at the top of her voice. “Are you stupid alongside senseless?” She asked. “I will give you thirty minutes to make sure these hallways are sparkling. I do not want to see even a speck of dust on the floor when I come back or else…” Francesca watched her turn and leave, her threat hanging in the air.She sighed, blinking back the burning tears that were threatening to spill. Making her way to the laundry room, she picked up a mop and its bucket, took some water and reported back to her duty post. **** “Welcome! King Chase,” he greeted him at the door with a small smile. “What brings you to my home this good afternoon?” He asked, looking genuinely surprised. “You could have just called me and I’d have been happy to oblige. “Well… may I come in?” “Oh! Pardon my manners please! Do come in!” “Thank you,” Chase said, returning a smile of his own. “I need to speak to you…” he looked around the large living room, spotting some movement at the far end of the west wing . “Alone,” he added firmly. Clinton led the other man to his study for them to discuss, since it seemed like the king came for important business. While walking through the hallway, the hairs on Chase’s body rose as he suddenly felt tingles all over his body. He could feel it in his soul, she was somewhere around and that made his heart drop into the pit of his stomach. He wasn’t ready, at all! He swallowed hard and fast, feeling the sweat escaping from under his head and rolled down his face. Funny enough, the weather was cold. Alpha Clinton finally reached a large mahogany door, pulling out a bunch of keys from his pocket. He fumbled with the keyhole for a few seconds before the door cracked open. He led the way in while Chase followed, closing the door behind him. Chase looked around, feeling agitated. He was so tempted to go back and see where that all so familiar scent was coming from, but he stopped himself. He had come in here to discuss business and couldn’t allow any distractions. “Clinton,” he called, forcing the Alpha to look away from the bottle of wine he was pouring into two glasses. “I didn’t come here to drink wine and have small talks,” he said to the older man. “ I think it’s time we come up with strategies on how to protect the Southern kingdom from Vee-jays’ attack. The werewolves are weaker and for generations, it’s been our duty to protect and defend them and that is why I came to see the chief of staff of the military. Could you have happened to hear any rumors about the recent attacks?” Clinton nervously swallowed, putting the drink aside as he stood up straighter, facing the intimidating man who stood before him. “That is true your majesty,” he confessed, clearing his throat. “I got a report a few days ago that Vee-jay and his people are trying to capture the southern kingdom and there have been frequent attacks on the villages that are close to the borders of the southern kingdom.” If looks could kill, the Alpha would’ve been six feet under. “What?” Chase asked in a calm but deadly tone of voice. “You knew about all that and kept it from me? When were you going to tell me?” He snapped. Clinton took a few steps back, flinching at the coldness of the Lycan’s tone and the dangerous look in his eyes. “I was going to file all the reports after I finish making more investigations before coming to you, I wanted to have all the facts right first.” He stated, crossing his fingers that it’d make sense to the short tempered King. “Sounds okay,” Chase said after a moment of silence. “But you are taking too much time to compile the details, so I’ll be making the findings on this case myself.” He said in a final tone. “I came to ask for your assistance, work with me on this.” “As you wish, your majesty,” he said with a bow. Chase looked around the large study, taking note that it was his first time coming here since after taking reign after his father. If he wanted his Alpha’s he’d always summon them but this time around, he couldn’t tell why he decided to pay Clinton a visit. He was so tempted to ask if Clinton had any daughters, but he didn’t. “Anyways; I need to head back now because I have other things to do.” He said, already headed towards the door. Immediately he got into the hallway, he anticipated the assault of the scent that kept pulling him in its direction, but it was gone…like completely vanished. He didn’t know how to feel. He was relieved that maybe there had been nothing there in the first place and they’d be no one coming into his life anytime soon that’d have that complete power over him. But he also felt a bit disappointed because the feeling was so good, he felt his third leg hardening. “See you tomorrow at the office, first thing tomorrow morning,” he said to Clinton as he slammed the door of his Ferrari, signaling for his driver to move. He was on his way home, back to the palace. The two hundred and seventy years old mansion served as the main pack house , containing two hundred rooms in total. But times had changed and instead of Lycans all living together in one house, they now had their own homes with their families but still lived together as a pack. The car slowed down when it got the all too familiar large gates and the driver pressed the gate control in his hand, and the large gates parted into two while they drove in. Just like any expensive mansion, there was a large fountain at the front with the sculpture of a naked woman, a kettle in her hand and water pouring out of it. Then there were neatly trimmed flowers all over the place and a hundred wolves going about their businesses. Chase alighted from the vehicle, ignoring everyone that stopped to greet him. He was always grumpy and it was nothing new to his subjects. Once he got into the house, he took off his coat and handed it over to his Beta who met him at the door. They hadn’t said a word to each other as he stomped up the stairs, toward the north wing of the mansion. He owned the whole top floor and every member staying in his mansion knew not to trespass. “Ehem!” Saga cleared his throat, waiting to be given permission to speak. He knew how quick tempered his superior could be and had to tread carefully as not to attract his wrath. Chase rolled his eyes, commanding him to speak. “Your mother and your brothers have come to see you,” he said, taking a few steps back when the Lycan king suddenly halted in his steps and turned to face him. “Why and where are they?” “In their various rooms, your majesty. Your mother requested the whole of the west wing and I instructed the rest not to disturb them.” He replied. Chase grunted and continued making his way to his room. He wondered why the sudden visit but he guessed he’d be finished soon. “I need you to run me a bath, just two women for now, I don’t have that much time until later.” The Beta bowed and turned around and left. Chase opened the door to his room to walk in, sighing in relief when the alluring scent of his large bedroom welcomed him. After women, his bed was the next thing he loved so much. He stripped off his clothes and fell butt naked on the bed. A few minutes later, a knock came on his door and he ordered them to enter. Two women walked in with barely any clothes left to the imagination. They had star shaped tags covering their n*****s and a larger one covering their v****a. That was all they had on and they were completely natural with no atom of makeup. His Adam apple bobbed as he gulped, his huge c**k springing to life. “Let her prepare the bath, while you come over here and put that beautiful mouth of yours to good use.” By the time he was done with his shower, he had gone over six rounds on both girls and was thoroughly refreshed when he stepped out of his bedroom in a Jean and T-shirt. Saga was already waiting for him by the door. “Where is my mother now?” He asked. “She is downstairs in the dining room, having breakfast. Your brothers are out in the harem fooling around with the ladies.” He rolled his eyes, knowing that that was the only reason his brothers would come to his place. They were all just prostitutes, just as their father had been. His mother on the other hand was what gave him a concern because they hadn’t seen each other in a while, but they have been talking over the phone. So what could it be that she’d come all the way to his palace? He had a feeling that he wasn’t going to like whatever she had to say to him. “Oh my baby!” She yelled once he stepped into the room, making him all red with embarrassment. “If it isn’t my son whom I have not seen for more than three months, even though I stay so close to him! Isn’t that wonderful?!” Catrina, Chase’s mothers faked enthusiasm. She looked stunning as always, her red lipstick glaring at anyone who sets his or her eyes upon her lips. “Mother,” he called quietly, pulling out a chair to sit down. “How have you been?” Chase said, leaning closer to his mother and giving her a peck on the cheek. But just as she’d done since he was a little boy, she held his face in her hands and smacked her lips with his. “Oh mother,” he chuckled, wiping off the lipstick she’d left on his lips. “You look stunning; I really wished I could marry you.” He said, teasing her. She gave out a hearty laugh. “Oh, please stop with all the teasing. I have not seen you in a while so I decided to come in, see you, and know how you were doing.” “I am obviously fine as you can see, just a little concerned with the southern kingdom. We seem to be under attack from that end, so I need a good defense strategy.” Her aged face scrunched up in concern? “Our people are under an attack? Who are the attackers?” She asked. “Vee-jay,” he said, diving right into his food when it was set before him. “Damnit, that sly fox,” she hissed, slamming down her cutlery in her plate. “He wouldn’t give up, would he? How many years has it been already?!” She yelled. “These people have been giving us headaches since I can remember and they are yet to relent. I told your father of blessed memory,” Catrina said while bowing down a little paying respect to the memory of her late husband; “not to spare that fox and his people as they might continue assailing us but did listen to me? No! Of course he didn’t listen and now three decades later, they are still disturbing us.” Chase was troubled as he hadn’t intended to cause worry to his mother. “Mother, rest your heart. We are going to put them in their place for the last time. You just need to stay calm and focus on being a beautiful Queen dowager.” He said, softly stroking her cheek. He pushed aside the plate of food he had barely touched and rose to his feet. “I need to run now, I have a meeting in thirty minutes.” “Don’t you forget the ball! Be just in time for it and who knows, you might finally find a wife.”
