Cassie has been running her whole life, her mother promised her a saviour, she never thought she would watch that saviour tear away the last thing she had. For years she has repressed who she is, forever hiding from the people that have hunted her down over the course of her life. In all her years of hiding though, she never thought she would cross paths with him again. She never thought the past would catch up to her, so she does the one thing that she has always done best, she runs away. Jace never thought he would see her again, thought he would never be able to look at her face, after that blood stained night many years ago. After her life was taken away from him as he watched her fall from the cliff face, she would rather die than have to face the truths of that night. Yet here she was standing in front of him... just before he can do anything... she turns and runs.

Chapter One
My feet trailed blood behind me as we rushed through the forest. Her hand never leaving mine as it dragged me behind her my legs not keeping up with hers. Her skin was pale white, her eyes darting around everywhere never resting in one spot looking for any threats that might come after us. Her usually vibrate red hair now looked dull and flat, plastered to her neck with sweat. Her body is cover in cuts and bruises yet she never slows, ignores the pain that must be coursing throughout her body as it courses through mine. We have been on the run for days now trying to avoid the fate that my mother saw. A fate that my mother was trying to escape from with me, I had no clue where we were but that my mother was looking for someone, someone that would protect us. I watched as she sniffed the air before changing direction, dragging me along behind her. My feet drag along the ground at times slicing the top of my feet as they get dragged across the roots. I want to cry in pain but I knew it would achieve nothing. We could not stop, because stopping would mean a fate worse then the pain I was in now. "Nearly there my love" my mother cries out her voice breaking in exhaustion. Her running pace increasing at the hope of resting soon. I could smell the scent of other wolves here, very faintly my sense of smell was still weak but I could still smell them. The only problem though is they were not ours, these wolves did not belong to our pack. I felt the need to run from this place as we had not been invited in. But mother still powered forward, were these the wolves she was looking for? I have been slowing her down the whole time not even being able to shift, it could take years for me to fully be able to control my wolf-like others in the pack, like my mother. Not that I have ever seen my mothers wolf but she would have to have one, I was told she was one of the most important people in the pack at one point until she got weak. Weak because of me they would tell me. The further we went into the more I could smell them, they were everywhere. Being in territory that did not belong to me made me feel dirty but looking down at myself I was dirty enough as it was. A growl echoes through the trees making my mother freeze in place, running at the speed I was I barrel into my mother and land on my arse. She is so focused she does not even seem to notice how clumsy I was and remained fix on a spot that I assume the growl came from. My mother gets low to the ground ready to fight if need be. I feel my blood freeze in my veins is this where it ends. "What are you doing here?" A voice demands. "We are here to see the Alpha, please escort us through." replies my mother her eyes darting around trying to find the owner of the voice. "Why should we? Why not kill you now you trespassers?" He growls out. My body shakes in fear at the very idea of dying here. "Because I am Luna Beta Katherine of the Silver Pack, and without my help, your pack will die." My mother firmly states releasing her power as she speaks. Her head held high in the face of a threat something that I can never do. The man growls as power rolls off my mother showing her dominance, the power of a Beta, if this man is alone he stands no chance against my mother. From that growl, I think he knows it too. Despite knowing this I can not stop myself from shaking the fear refusing to leave my body holding me in place. As I am shaking in fear my noses catches a scent, I turn my head trying to follow where it may be coming from. Suddenly my mother pushes me out of the say, I go flying through the air as my head strikes a tree. My body crumbles to the ground my head throbbing from the blow, my hand goes up to where I hit it and it touches blood it sticks to my hand. I peel my head up off the ground the only strength I can muster. My eyes lock on with my mothers as a giant grey wolf jumps out of the bushes, I watch as it opens its jaw eyes as dark a steel as he leaps to my mother, my mother now standing where I was. Having pushed me out of the way, out of the threat. I try and scream at my mother to make her pay attention to the wolf instead of me. But it was too late the wolf grabs my mothers arm. I hear her blood-curdling scream at the sound of her bones breaking underneath the jaws on this monster. with the sounds of her screams echoing in my ear. Everything fades to black. Everything hurt, my body throbbing. My mind begging me to go back to the blissful nothing that claimed me before. My eyes remain closed as the weight to lift them hurt too much. I was too weak, nothing I did seemed to ever be enough. My thoughts led back to mother, her screaming lingering in my mind like a bad song on reply. Was she ok? It would be my fault if she was not. I could not even get out of the way and was only a distraction for her. A sob built up in my throat but I refused to let it out causing it to build and making my throat ache in painting wanting the relief of crying. But I can't be so weak as to cry. Slowly I open my eyes to look around me. First thing I notice is the bars that look back at me caging me. Locking me in here like an animal, I drag my body up so that I was sitting in the bed, something you could sleep on but I would not go so much to actually call it a bed. My thoughts making me think the ground would be nicer to sleep on than this. My eyes flicker across the room looking for the only thing that mattered. My mother, though they could not find her. I was alone here, I pull my legs towards my chest holding in enough sob. Was she alive? Did I cause her death? My body goes cold at the thought of me being the reason she may be gone, I have failed her yet again. I will never be strong enough to fight her battles with her, the battles that I cause. And this battle might have very much taken her away. The pain in my chest at the very idea of her being gone, is crippling, slipping into my mind like a snake and taking hold of all rational thought. My hands try and grab at the pain they are buried deep, My mind wanders to my mothers' teachings, everything she has tried to teach me and every lesson I have failed at. Coming from a strong line of Beta Wolves I started my training as soon as I turned six years old, being the only child of my parents made me the only person to take over the role of Beta in the pack when the time came. The fact that I was born a girl was a big enough disappoint to the pack let alone that I was smaller than normal and struggled to keep up with my training, I either barely passed or failed. I was a disappoint to my pack and I brought shame to my family that their child could be so weak. My father did not handle it well and threw himself into his work barely seeing me at all and when he did the sad look he got in his eyes was enough to make me avoid him as well. My mother never gave up on me though always pushing me to do my best and always loving me despite the glares that the pack sent her. Giving birth to me was hard and after my mother was not able to have any more children I think the pack blamed me for that as well, having taken away the only chance to have a strong Beta with my failing to be of use to the pack. The surprise came not long before my twelfth birthday when I shifted for the first time, the pack was in shock that one could shift so young natural Alphas would shift around eighteen and normal members of the pack are around twenty. So why would a weak runt that was the curse of the pack shift at such a young age? Such a thing was unheard of in our kind. Not long after that my mother woke me up in the middle of the night, pulled me out of bed and ran off with me in the middle of the night as the world slept around her. I never looked back, while running my mother was telling me that we are no longer safe that things had changed in our pack, I believe it was to do with me being so weak. Did they want to get rid of a weak Beta line? Even so, she never gave up on me, she was the one person that has always been there for me have I finally let that person down. Torn from my thoughts a hear the door creaked followed by the smell of sandalwood and musk, another wolf. I shrink back into the corner of the bed, fear takes over my body like the coward I am, my arms shaking as they hold my knees. He walks into the room, I force my eyes to his in my only display of defence despite the quivering of my body. He raises his hands, "Don't worry love, I will not hurt you. I have come to talk." He smiles, as he sits down and settles at the end of the bed. "I have just finished talking to your mother," My ears perk up at the mention of my mother "it would seem that you guys have had a bit of a hard time, We are here to make it all better ok. Your mother and I have made a deal and you are going to be staying with us for some time is that ok." He finishes looking at me questionably like I might be holding something back from him. I look at this man, he could not be older then forty, though you can see he has a little bit of age on him he holds himself strong, so not someone you want to get in a fight with. His eyes are crystal clear never wavering from my face. I don't know if I felt uneasy around this man or if I felt safe. If he talked to my mother that means she is still alive which is a relief but even I know how hard it is to change packs. Why would they accept us just like that? What did mother say to them? "Can I see my mother?" I ask my voice shaking at the end. "Of course you can love," He stands from his side of the bed, "let me take you to her and we will show you around." He states as he holds out his hand, I hesitantly take it, "My name is Marcus." He smiles
