1:Why?
A small lady of about 18years was sleeping peacefully on her small bed, her room was very small, a typical poor girl's room. In it was a small bed, wooden closet, and a cracked mirror. The iron door of her room creaked ajar, her mother; a woman in her mid forties, entered the room, hands at akimbo. She tapped her shoulder, Hayfah just groaned and yawned her face to the other side, her mother yanked the bedsheet she used as a duvet"Wake up, I think you supposed to be at school by now, but you're here sleeping. I wonder what's your use sef," her Mom said, looking angry. Hayfah opened her mouth, trying to greet her mother, but her mother hurriedly stopped her "Don't say anything please, I'm not ready to hear this vulgar voice of your's, just get your lazy a*s off," with that, she stomped out of the room. Hayfah could'nt stop the tears that were threatening to fall, she's tired of all this, why is life giving her its bitter side? Was she the one that created herself? She was created like this, and she believed it's a blessing in disguise. Why could'nt her Mom understand this? She was the one that gave birth to her, for god sake! She used her right thumb and clear her tears, this is not the first not she got humiliated, this is not the first time she was ridiculed. It all came from her family first, she should'nt worry about this. She removed her clothes, round a faded ankara wrapper around her petite frame, with that; she sauntered out of her room. She quickly took her bath, it was pass nine, and she has exam to write at 9:30am. On her way back from the toilet, she met her father, she squated down a little, using her hands to cover her chest, she was shy, she thought they were all out. "Good morning Abba," came her vulgar voice, more like a man's. He's the only person that does'nt humiliate her, he's the only person that talks to her sweetly. Abba, a gentle man in his mid fifties, a tall structured man, with pointed noise, his curly hair that is turning into gray one, a typical fulani man. He smiled at her warmly, he loves his daughter, she's his favourite, "Good morning Hayfah, how was the exams, hope you're doing good," Abba asked. "Yes Abba, Alhamdulillah," she said standing up. He nodded and made his way out of the house, he sells vegetables in the market. She quickly applied her vaseline, rubbed a powder over her face, lined her eyes with kohl, smeared lipgloss across her lips. She looked at herself in her broken mirror, a truimphant smile escasped her lips, she's satisfied with how she looked. Hayfah; a young fulani lady with a round face, chubby cheeks, with a dimple beautifying her cheeks. She has a very round white eyes, a long thin nose, a very cute small pink lips. She's fair in complexion, average in height, chubby in weight, a very long black hair. She's the best defination of beautiful. If only her voice was sweet as her looks. If only. She shifted her gaze on the wall clock in her room, she looked startled, as it was 9:40am. "What took me so long? Ya Ilahi. Now when I get to school, a teacher must ask why I was late, what will I say then? I have to talk, but I don't want to be laughed at," she murmured, her facial expression showing how sad she is. She took her school bag, adjusted her hijab, and scuttled out of the room. "Good morning Umma," she greeted her mother. A beautiful fulani woman, fair in complexion, she has a very long black hair, which dangled on her shoulders. Hayfah is the replica of her mother, their resemblance forced her into believing she's her biological mother. If not, who humiliate his child? Who harass his own biological child? I bet no one. Well.... except for Shafa'atu. Umma just nodded, she hates hearing Hayfah's voice. Hayfah made her way to the door, she knew her mother will not answer her greeting, as this is not the first time. *** She entered the examination hall late, the invigilators were already there, students were writing their exams. She stood in front of the hall, she doesn't want to enter, and she does'nt want to miss her Geography WEAC exams, as it's her best subject. One of the invigilators, a chocolate skinned young man, he looked young and handsome, he approaced her, smiling widely; as he had seen a beautifull young lady. "Good day young Lady, are you here for the exams?" He asked, his smile grew wider, when he faced this damsel, he'd never seen such a beautiful lady in his life. She's very beautiful. She muttered an Innalillahi, she knew no one can save her from humiliation today, just no one. Expect Allah. She nodded her head, as a yes. He does'nt want a nod, he wants to hear her voice, he knew it will be very thin and sweet, it will complete her full definition of damsel. "Which subject do you offer? Geography or Commerce?" He asked, he's doing all his might to make her talk. She nodded a Yes, then shaked her head as a No. Indicating she offers Geography not Commerce. Why can't she talk? He asked himself. "Open your mouth young lady, stop answering my questions in gesture," he said, he's getting angry, did she take herself as a princess? "Sir, I offer Geography," came her vulgar, man like voice. She hardly talk in school, even at home, because of how she got harassed. But this man just caused her humiliation, as her mates will now start laughing. He frenzed in his spot, he was looking at her, mouth agape. He did just heard her voice? Or has he gone deaf? Or does he have an ear problem. Ya Allah. Her mates at the window side started laughing, some at the back gesturing at their friends, their were laughing hysterically, the whole students started laughing. Expect her only and best friend;Fareeha. She does'nt know when the tears she had been holding cascade, she burst into tears, closing her mouth with her hijab. "Adyan, what's going on there? Why are the students laughing gesturing your way?" Another invigilator called out. She thought for a second__Adyan? What a nice name for a shrewd guy. Note the sarcasm. "Go and sit down," he said, giving her the question paper and answering sheets. She collected the papers with quivering hands, she wiped her tears away, and entered the hall with a heavy heart. She ignored alot of giggles and chuckles, as she made her way to her seat beside her bestfriend;Fareeha. Fareeha looked at her sadly, she hates how her mates treat her bestfriend. Was she the one that created herself? She was created like this. Hayfah smiled ruefully at her, and hung her head low, taking all her worries off for a while. She takes her studies so serious, she believed it's her key to success. *** Hayfah and Fareeha were walking out of the school area, when a voice halted them, he scuttled to where they stood. He motioned at Fareeha, and she left without uttering a single word. "Look... like what am I really going to say? You're beautiful,"Adyan complimented, smiling. She smiled ruefully at him, before turning to walk away. "Wait please, can I know your name? I escorted my brother here, I'm going back tomorrow, please tell me just your name," he said, gesturing the 'just' with his hand. She smiled again, and shake her head as a No. "Please young lady, you're very beautiful. I want to know your name," he pleaded. She looked at him, her eyes filled with tears. He is the first person that compliment her after hearing her voice. He's the first person that does'nt laugh at her, after hearing her voice. Not even her family do this, her brother, sister, mother, were not nice and kindhearted like this. But she can't let him entice her, he might want to hear it to laugh more. She suddenly feel frustrated, "Why is everybody avoiding me because of my voice? Was I the one that created myself? No. I was ridiculed, humiliated, harassed, all because of my voice. Why could'nt everyone understand how it hurts? Not even my mother. Why? I know you were asking my name because you want to hear the vulgar man like voice of a very beautiful lady. You want to laugh at me too. Well__My name is Hayfah Talhah Muhammad. Leave, go and laugh to your fill. But know__ I was created like this! And I believe it's a blessing in disguise. Why could'nt everyone understand? Why?" She wiped away her tears with her hijab, which were not stopping anytime from now. She left him confused, what is she going through? Is everyone making fun of her? But why? Nothing is wrong with her voice. He love her voice!. I'm here with another saga, completely different from down hearted.
