The wheels of a dark blue Rolls-Royce pauses a few inches away from the glass entrance door. The car door opens and a black oxford shoe steps its foot onto the red carpet. A man in a black tuxedo brushes the invincible dust from his shoulder. He strolls his way at the entrance, with a strong physique and a straight body. The guests grouped inside can’t help but lay their eyes on him. Almost thirty people are present inside the towering venue. Chandelier dazzles at the middle along with the lights shaped like a candle at every side of the hall. The man then sat at the nearest empty table and a waiter walks towards him.  A waiter approaches him, leans the tray in his hand, and offers him a drink. The man nods at him and took a bottle of champagne. He sips a little when he noticed three girls in a maxi dress, giggle at his back. He keeps his ears close to their conversation. He assumes the ladies might create unrealistic stories about him like they always do. The man shakes his head and tries to forget his crazy thoughts about the ladies. He drinks the champagne in one stroke to blow his mind away. “Isn’t he a billionaire?”, one of the girls whispered “Is he Glen Hopkins?”, one of them added and they giggled again Glen Hopkins hated attention, especially having discussions behind his back. At that moment, his veins boil with anger when he grips at the empty glass in his hand. He couldn’t stand up for himself, not because he has no courage, he didn’t want to make a scene at the event, which can ruin his reputation. They are ladies, they will do anything to find a topic to discuss, he has no place to make a fuss about their dramas. Glen stands up and switched tables, and there he finally developed fifteen minutes of peace by himself. Time passes by, and the guests start to enter in masses. Three men in a black suit approached Glen. “Mr. Hopkins” one of the men offered his hand. Glen grabs it and shakes hand with him  “Good evening to you all gentleman”, he looks at the three of them  The men sit beside him, they asked Glen a few personal questions about his business, his life, and himself. Glen gave them bits of this information and eventually diverts the questions on the gentlemen’s life. During their conversation, the men shared a couple of fresh news with him about the city. The rumors of an affair between the aspiring mayor Martin May, and a councilor. Then the embezzlement of funds, for the hungry youth, becomes the last blow on his good old reputation.  The gentlemen debated with undivided attention. Their chatter and laughter echo throughout the place, non-stop. However, the words coming out of their mouth, only murmurs in his ears. Glen stares at the still empty glass in his hand, without a contribution of a single word into the conversation. The men beside him noticed it, so he tries to include Glen in the discussion  “Are you not afraid?”, he asked him.  Glen raised one of his eyebrows and gave him a look of bewilderment, “of what?” “Be involved in the power struggle here?”, the man said, Glen chuckles at him, and shakes his head gently, “I have seen worse than this”, “Can you tell us?”, the man asks again  “This night would not be enough”, Glen told him, when the waiter with a tray in his hand approaches his table once more. The waiter offered the bottle of wine to the gentleman, on the table. Glen took another glass and ignored the waiter. After a quick sip, he wanders his eyes around the place. For he might find a person he knew with whom he could talk to, so as to end up his boredom with the group of men he is with. He takes a sip again and placed the glass on the table. His eyes then locked on an alone woman a couple of tables away in front of him. Long-black wavy hair at the side, dark red colors of her lipstick enlighten the perfect shape of her lips and a slender neck, adorned with diamond sparkles. The lady spotted Glen’s gaze on her. She looks away but glances at him every second. Glen’s fiery eyes on her are in flames for lust, he now stares at her long porcelain legs. He couldn’t control the desire, burns inside his chest. He excused himself from the gentlemen he is with before he walks towards the lady. He sits beside her, and asked, “Would you want me to grab you a drink?”, The woman produced a soft warm laugh and looks at him, “What drink?”, she asked  “Anything”, Glen whispered, with his eyes stuck on hers,  The woman leans closer to his face “This party bores me, a drink will not lighten me up”, she stares at his lips. Glen wraps her hands around her waist and smirks, “Perhaps, I can help you”, “But, I don’t even know you”, the woman giggles, “Glen Hopkins”, he said to the woman, The woman then moves her lips right next to his ears, “Let’s go to the bathroom, and I will tell you mine”, she breathes and took his hand.  The two of them walked inside the men’s bathroom holding each other’s hands. They went on one of the stalls and he started kissing her soft lips. “Would you tell it now?”, Glen asked her,  “It’s Jennifer”, she wraps both of her hands behind his neck and kisses his lips. Glen can feel the tension of heat rise inside him, he places his hands all across her waist, but his phone chirps at the middle of their kiss. He picks it up and yells to the caller, “What do you want!”,  The caller told him that his brother and the mayor arrived together. Glen tries to argue with him, for the bother he caused, but the caller insisted he must meet the mayor at once. “Dang!”, he ended the call, and looks at Jennifer in front of him, “I will get back to you later”, he said and walks away. Glen didn’t mind Jennifer shouts at his back and pleads not to leave her. The crowd roars and claps, the moment a middle-aged bald man waves his entire arm to the people. The man steps in care at the mini stairs towards the podium. He raises his palm, with a wide smile on his face. Glen rushes to the venue, but it was already dead silent, their eyes sparkle and focused only on the man at the podium. Glen didn’t make a single move, instead, he stood there and wait with the crowd. The man clears his throat. Seconds follow, he stares with intent at the crowd, before he releases the bullet, and fired the trigger of words. He drowned the people of promises and hope, his sweet words touches the apex of their hearts like the tip of the quill, marks the paper with the ink forever. It needs to scrape the layer of paper before the ink removes. The words marked might bring damage to the paper if erased.  The entire crowd’s ears and sight are still with the man on the podium. The man’s voice echoed and resonates with the entire place. His hand gestures and frown on his face intensify the heavy thunders of his words. A few seconds of deep silence finishes his speech. Then the crowd shouts his name in repetition “Sotto!”, some of them fell in tears, but their faces cover with smiles. They yelled, they clapped and they cheered. Glen didn’t join the crowd’s jubilation, yet he couldn’t help to smirk and clap five times at the man’s speech. He can say the man's speech pretty impressed him, even though he has heard countless politicians, this man’s speech for sure will stick into his mind. Out of nowhere, a hand touches his shoulder. Glen flinches a little, a bit of quick shiver travels to his spine. He turns his face to his back, and his brother Adrian in a black suit shows up. “Where have you been?”, Glen asked his brother, “An important business”, Alexis winks at him, but Glen narrowed his eyes and stared at him. In the middle of their conversation, the man from the podium then approaches them and asked them about his speech, but his eyes look on Glen alone. “It’s great!”, Glen replied in a high-pitched voice, “I’m glad you liked it, I don’t want to be seen wasting your money”, Glen sneered and tapped the back of the man’s back. They take a few steps away from his brother, which made Adrian become an outcast in the bustles of chatter at the event. Adrian looks at Glen and Halbert, he tried to prowl around the crowd, but all of his conversations with others ended right away. They must notice his unsteady eyes or his pauses in the middle of the discussion. After fifteen minutes Adrian didn’t exert any more effort. He sat down with the group of old men, get himself a glass of champagne, and zipped his mouth.  As time passes by, his eyes felt heavy. The old men’s soft voice mumbles into his ears and he couldn’t understand a single word. Adrian shakes his head and the head of the old man in front of him falls, then he starts to snort. The other men around continue the conversation, with the man asleep on their side. Adrian stretches his arms and yawns. Then two security guards at the corner from afar, point at each other. The big stretches of their lips gave Adrian an instinct the two were in a fight. The guards puzzle him. On this lonesome night with so many unnecessary lights and energetic jazz going on, no programs or entertainment presented, his time was already wasted, why not make it alive? Adrian stands up and was about to go in the direction of the guards, but his brother Glen approaches him. Adrian placed his priority first, within a matter of seconds he abandoned his thoughts. “How’s the talk?”, he asked his brother “Nothing but plans, how did you end up here?”,  Adrian scratches the back of his neck, and smiled at his brother, “Can we now go out of here?”,  “Half an hour”, Glen hold his arms, “I want you to meet someone”,  The two brothers climbed the long, broad stairs and walked towards the balcony. The yellowish crescent moon appeared alone in the night sky. Vine flowers wrap the entire stone railings. A woman on a black evening gown stands below the moon as she dazzles. Adrian startles, he freezes for a few seconds. Glen tapped his back, then he stepped closer and closer to the woman. Glen didn’t follow his brother, instead, he stands at their back. He watches his brother and the woman talked, in the magical place on the right night. Glen went down. He wanders his eyes at the strange crowd and looked for familiar faces. He wishes deep inside him, the woman he met earlier would reappear but she was nowhere to be found. Instead, a round-bellied man stares at him with a drink in his hand. It brings curiosity to Glen’s mind so he walked towards the man. “Can I help you?”, Glen raises his eyebrow at the man, The man presented himself, a congressman, and gave Glen an offer to expand his business at his district at the city in exchange for his support. Glen declined and laughs at him. His actions shake the nerves of the man, he left him, but Glen stopped him. “My business will surely expand”, he said, “I already have the mayor’s support, but still I would help you” The man turned his face to him, and paused, “Thank you”, he nods once and dashes away. All of a sudden a loud bang stunned the loud chatters in the place. The people present fell silent and looked around. A soft murmur then follows, when the crowd starts to disperse. Glen also becomes stoned at his place. He listens if there would be another sound, but then a screechy scream of a woman comes from the back of the stage.
