Episode 6: The Night He Carried Her

801 Words
Bianca stood frozen in the middle of the silent hallway, the echo of Alexander’s footsteps disappearing as he walked away from her. Her cheeks still tingled from the humiliation, her chest so tight it hurt to breathe. She wanted to be strong. She wanted to act like his words didn’t pierce her. But when she finally made it inside the guest room, the moment the door clicked shut, the dam broke. She cried. Not loud, not dramatic just quiet, painful tears that soaked her pillow. She cried for everything: her father, her mother, her promises, her fear, the contract marriage she’d been dragged into… and for a man whose coldness burned more than any cruelty she had ever known. By the time sleep finally claimed her, it was past midnight. A Sudden Darkness Bianca woke up hours later, trembling. Her chest felt tight. Her breath came in short, painful gasps. Her vision blurred. “No… no… not now…” she whispered, clutching the sheets. Her anxiety was spiraling worse than it had been in months. Her head felt light, her fingers numb. Tears blurred her vision again as panic clawed at her lungs. She tried to stand. Her knees buckled. She hit the floor. “Help…” she whispered weakly, her voice barely audible. The Door Bursts Open The door flew open so violently it hit the wall. Alexander stood there. Not the cold billionaire. Not the arrogant CEO. But a man who looked genuinely terrified. “Bianca?!” His voice cracked as he rushed to her. “Bianca, look at me. What’s wrong?” She couldn’t even respond her breathing was too rapid, too shallow. He dropped to his knees, his hands cupping her face gently. “Hey, hey… breathe. Bianca, breathe slowly with me.” His voice was soft, the softest she’d ever heard it. He held her against his chest, one hand supporting her back, the other stroking her hair. “It’s okay. I’m here,” he whispered, his jaw tight with fear. “Just breathe for me. I’ve got you.” Bit by bit, her breathing slowed. Her trembling eased. And Alexander held her the entire time as if he was afraid she would disappear if he let go. He Picks Her Up When her body finally relaxed, he didn’t let her sit on the cold floor. He lifted her. Not like a fragile doll but like something precious. Her head rested against his chest, and she could hear his heartbeat: fast, unsteady, real. “You should’ve called me,” he muttered, carrying her out of the room. She didn’t answer. She didn’t have the strength. So he continued, his voice lower: “I shouldn’t have walked away earlier. I shouldn’t have said… what I said.” Bianca blinked. Was he… apologizing? Alexander Kane? Apologizing? It felt unreal. He Takes Her to His Room He pushed open the door to his bedroom a room she had never been inside and laid her gently on his bed. “I’ll get you some water,” he said and turned away, but she grabbed his sleeve. “Don’t… go.” He froze. For a full second, his breath caught. Then he exhaled slowly and sat down beside her. “I’m not going anywhere,” he said quietly. The silence stretched between them soft, warm, almost intimate. For the first time, she saw something entirely different in his eyes. Not anger. Not irritation. Not superiority. But concern. Deep, unsettling concern. His Shield Cracks “Bianca,” he said finally, voice low, “you scared me.” She looked up. “I didn’t mean to.” “I know.” His jaw clenched. “And that’s why it scared me even more.” Their eyes locked. Something shifted. Something neither of them could name. He brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering a fraction too long. “You need rest,” he murmured. “Sleep here tonight.” Her cheeks warmed. “In your bed?” “Yes,” he said simply. “Where I can see you.” There was no teasing. No smirk. Just sincerity. And that made her heart race even more. The Moment Before Sleep As she closed her eyes, she heard him move his chair closer. He sat beside her, elbows on his knees, watching her like a guardian. “Alexander…” she whispered. “Yes?” “Thank you.” A pause. Then: “You don’t have to thank me.” Another pause. “Just… don’t scare me like that again.” His voice cracked slightly at the end. Bianca fell asleep to the sound of his breathing steady now, calmer and to the warmth of a man who claimed he didn’t care… Yet stayed by her side the entire night.
