He started by telling her that he was found by a Lieutenant and given to his wife to raise until he was 8 when he went to get trained for military life. He told her how his entire Legion was pulled out into the sea when they were coming to get her. He talked about living at the fishing village and changing his name never wanting to go back.
“Then I was washing the pan and I picked up your scent. The scent that tells me you are my mate. It pulled out this….” He paused, he just knew she was going to think he was crazy. “Another part of me.” He was looking at their fingers intertwined. “Maybe it’s best if we just show you. Don’t be afraid.” He looked very concerned.
“I won’t be.” She promised.
He walked behind the cabin and then Sortas came walking out. He was tall and light brown with almost black eyes. She knew those eyes, she had seen them before.
She caught her breath and stood up but did not take a step away from the large wolf looking at her. He slowly walked up to her and she reached out to touch him. His fur was course but dense, he closed his eyes enjoying her touch. He let out a deep howl that could be heard for miles, excited that he got to tell the world he met his mate. He rubbed the whole length of his body against her as he turned around to shift back to Baron.
She was still standing when he came back. Scared she was going to reject him, she was going to be afraid of him now. “I just had to tell you the truth. I haven’t even known that long.”
“I am glad you told me. So what are you then? A wolf man?” She asked seriously.
“He tells me we are Werewolves.” Baron suddenly felt guilty he hadn’t told her before.
She was quiet for a while just thinking about all the times she had seen those eyes. The different ways he makes love to her. It was all making sense now. He is two different people, or something like that. “He talks to you?”
“Yes, I can hear him inside my head and I can talk back that way too.”
“Do you ever talk about me?”
“That’s all he wants to do is talk about you. How perfect you are, how great you are at everything.”
She smiled a bit. “Do you let him make love to me?”
“I suppose that is how it goes. I can’t always control him. I am still learning but you really bring him to the surface sometimes.” Baron was playing with a stick in the dirt between his legs.
“He is rough with me. I like that. I also like it when you are so gentle and sincere with me. I suddenly feel like I got the best of both worlds.” She paused just taking it in. “Can he talk with me? Still being you?”
He looked at her surprised she was taking this all so well. He could change into a wolf. That was crazy. He couldn’t even speak he was so surprised. So they sat there looking at each other for a moment, the breeze catching the tenderloins that framed her cheeks. She watched his eyes turn from blue to black and she knew it was the wolf.
“Yes, My Love?” He said almost to a growl.
“Do you have a name?” His stare stirred something deep inside of her.
“Sortas.” He looked out over the meadow and into the trees and seemed to stand guard.
She was quiet and looking at the ground suddenly feeling like he felt forced to talk with her.
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t want to be. He doesn’t have that much control over me.” He pulled his eyes away from the tree line and looked at her.
“Can you hear my thoughts?” She was surprised.
“Most of the time.” He was mater of fact.
She looked at him with curious eyes. He seemed to shift a bit under her gaze. “Do I make you nervous?”
“No.” He seemed to be holding back. Then he looked at her and she knew that look. She had always known that look. He reached out and grabbed her by the hair pulling her to him with their lips almost touching. She could feel his hot breath on her cheek. “You make me crazy.” He smashed his lips into hers with a desperate passion. Still kissing her he pulled her up into his demanding arms and he walked her backward to the fence. He forcefully turned her around bent her over the fence and pulled up her dress and slammed himself into her. Harder with each thrust, he didn’t hear her scream. He pushed her legs as far apart as they would go and pounded her over and over again. Without mercy her held her by her hair bent over the fence. He didn’t stop, didn’t let her up until he was done.
She stayed there bent over the fence, breathing heavy, blood running down her legs. Anger bursted out of her as she stood back up. With angry tears in her eyes she turned to look at him. It was at that point he realized that something wasn’t right. The hatred in her eyes stabbed him in the heart.
“Do not ever do that again.” She moved toward him and he noticed she was walking with a limp and his heart sank. He knew he had hurt her. “I never want to you to touch me ever again.” Tears started running over her cheeks because. she could feel the pain he was feeling. Her anger was too powerful for her to care. “I want Baron back. Good bye.” She turned away from him and he knew she wasn’t going to forgive him for a long time, if ever.
He let Baron take control ‘Please tell her I am sorry.’
Baron watched her limp her way into their home with her shoulders shaking. ‘What did you do to her?’ Baron realized that Sortas had shut him out completely. He was feeling her pain through the bond and it worried him because he also felt something different, some that promised to put a distance between them. He decided to follow her in the cabin.
“Adella?” Baron’s voice was soft and full of concern as he opened the door. He found Adella with her leg up on a stool and she was cleaning blood from self. The blood left trails down her legs. Her hair was a mess and when she looked up at him she had blood on her lip. Tears stained her beautiful face and her eyes were wild with anger and hurt.
“GET OUT!” she screamed at him. He quickly closed the door and waited outside. His stomach churned with anxiety wondering what had happened. Had he done that? Guilt for not being able to control this other entity inside home swelled up into his heart.
After a bit the cabin door opened and Adella stormed past him without hesitation. He stood up “Adella?” Hoping to stop her but too worried about hurting her again. She didn’t stop, she didn’t even acknowledge him as she made her way to the ocean. He followed her, his heart racing “Adella?” He said as he made his way down to the ocean.
She took off her dress and turned to look at him and he saw the full horror of what had happened to her. Deep bruising over her stomach and legs that were held against the fence with so much force. She had a bruised lip and her hands had cuts on them as they tried grab on to anything. Worst of all was the bleeding from her private area. It was gushing down her leg. She only stared at him as he looked at her.
“He did this to me.” Was all she could say. She could feel Baron’s disgust at what he saw, the horror of hurting her but it didn’t matter now. What was done cannot be undone and the pain in her was all consuming.
He could only stand there on the beach and look at her with tears in his own eyes. He didn’t want her to run away so he stood still. “I love you, Adella and I promise that will never happen again.”
She turned away from, unable to look at him anymore. She could feel his sadness for her through the bond. She looked out into the ocean and took off running for it. She could hear him screaming for her as she hit the surf and dove in, her beautiful tail forming. She was gone.
Baron watched the surf for hours after that, hoping that she would come to the surface. The sun faded into night and then the night faded into the day. Baron could hear the goats billowing to be milked. Reluctantly Baron returned to the farm, he went through the motions of caring for all the animals. He felt numb, so numb. Life was so cold without her next to him. He worked until he fell over from exhaustion.
A disturbance in the distance woke him up. A snapping branch, tension in the air. He was in the feed bin so he could not see who or what was out there. He stood up and ran out the door hoping to see Adella searching for him. What he got was something completely different.
A pack of wolves stood before him and before his eyes the one closest to him shifted into a man. He had black hair, dark brown eyes, darker skin that rippled with muscles. They held each others’ gaze for moment it was like this man was sizing him up.
After a few tense moments the stranger took one knee and bowed his head “Alpha.” The twelve other wolves also shifted and did the same with a united “Alpha.”
