Past is Prologue

Running barefoot in the moist sand of the surrey beach was the only time Briar could be free and alone from the confines of the palace , it was a cold morning and yet she felt warm in her bones. The faraway mountain of Dawnwood is gleaming white light as the sun rose overhead , After a few hours of running aimlessly around Briar decided to get back to the palace before her training with Master Ruko .

She passed through the city under the disguise of a boy , the city of Dawnwood was as beautiful as the stories say . Being known as the wealthiest planet , the capital had been known as a city of progress with technological advancement. Briar boarded the train that would pass District 8 , she stood next a mother and her four year old daughter that was playing with a robot doll .

She pulled the hoodie to conceal her face before someone recognized her from the Daily Royals media. The train stopped , and Briar quickly blended into the crowd until she found a shortcut in to the palace . She dodged the guards and maneuvered her way to the storerooms , got rid of her garments and wore her ceremonial clothes before she went for breakfast.

Her mother the High Queen of Venus was seated beside her father High King Fenrys who wore a grave expression as her mother comforted him.

She pulled the chair at his left side and sat before starting to fill her plate with food , she took a bite and peered at her parents through her thick lashes and realized that they were scrutinizing her with their gaze, she averted her eyes to their plates their breakfast were unfinished.

She sensed that her father is in a fowl mood today and it’s unlikely to improve at any moment.

A few minutes of stare down her mother broke the silence

“My dear we have important matters to discuss about your future.”

She said calmly, waiting for Briars reactions before continuing

“ The planet of Mars Emperor had ask your hand in marriage to his heir Crown Prince Saint .” That finally caught Briars attention and suddenly watched her parents faces with utter shock.

“ it’s already decided, it’s your duty as a princess and a sister to protect both your family and planet and is not up to discussion.”

Her father spoke sternly without giving her a chance to speak . They had never made her decide anything in her entire life, she was taught that her duty as a daughter of Venus is to wed for the benefit of her people.

She stood up with tears in her eyes and left hall as her dog trailed behind her , she couldn’t let them see her pain. Taking quick strides she entered the arena and started to train , the mastery of the sun took decades to master , Briar trained with Master Ruko whenever she could .

She was mostly brutal in today’s training, her anger is distracting her from finding a weakness in her sparing partner. He knocked her out with one clean strike , exhausted she laid still on the floor breathing fast .

“ you have lost focus today princess, anger makes you blind and that could get you killed .”

Master Ruko had always been preaching about discipline but he had never been born in a royal family that is hell bent on treating their family as pawns in this century.

Briar went back to her room to get ready for the arrival of the emissaries of mars and the signing of contract of marriage. The night was bleak abs everything happened quickly for her taste .

Heart beating faster in her chest as she boarded the spaceship, she turned back one last time to gaze upon her family as she sighed knowing she wouldn’t be home for a while and most this moment dear in her heart .

They soon found themselves in orbit as they left the beautiful planet behind , Briar had some snacks and soon drifted off to deep sleep leaving the worries of her uncertain future behind.

Briar was awoken with the soft taps on her shoulder to dress in the colors befitting the crown princess of Mars . She was quickly dressed in ceremonial attire and her make up was subtle bringing out her amethyst eyes , her dark raven locks were held help in a messy bun .

They landed in the courtyard of the palace of Primus the royal west of House Memphis rulers of the planet Mars and Earth . She was led straight to the ceremony where thousands of people and aliens from the universe who had traveled far and wide to see the union of to great houses .

Briar was scared but she couldn’t lose her dignity, she was a daughter of the Phoenix , so she held her head higher and walked with the grace of a Queen until she stood face to face to the men whom she would seal her fate with .

As the priest began, she stole a glance at her new husband, he was very tall at 6’4 , broad shouldered , with sharp features and a short blond her , they both said their vows and the moment of truth came. It’s time they sealed their decorations with a kiss. Saint grabbed her chin softy , staring at his greenish golden eyes as he slum his soft pink lips to her mouth kissing her as if he was thirsty and she was the only water to quench his thirst.

They broke apart and the halls rang with applause as the couple made their part to the celebratory dinner . Briar’s mind was mush with a new sensation and elation. She couldn’t understand this new found feelings and couldn’t hide her shock even though she sat quietly nibbling on her dinner anticipating her first night with her prince .
