The water whirls down the toilet as I flush and the sound feels hypnotic. I allow myself to sit on the cold porcelain and relax, even if just for a moment. The past few days have been tense in the office and everyone can feel the new pressure being placed on us. In the past, there would be lots of chatter and laughter among my coworkers but all that has practically stopped ever since Cade walked in.
Heels clicking on the tile floor pull me out of the trance I’ve let myself slip into and I start to leave the bathroom stall. Before I can slide open the lock, I hear voices that stop me in my tracks.
