I found him where I least expected.
And yet…
exactly where I knew he’d be.
The city was quieter tonight.
Or maybe it was just me.
“You came.
His voice again.
Calm.
Certain.
I turned slowly.
Adrian Cole stood a few steps away, watching me like he already knew what I was going to say.
“You were right, I said.
Something flickered in his eyes.
But it wasn’t satisfaction.
“What did he tell you? he asked.
“Not enough.”
I stepped closer.
My heart was racing, but I didn’t stop.
“You said he destroyed your family,” I continued. “How?
His jaw tightened.
“My mother was set up,” he said quietly. “Blamed for something she didn’t do.
“For what?
“Fraud. Theft. Things she would never be involved in.”
“And my father?
“He made sure it stuck.
I felt my chest tighten again.
“Why?
“That’s the part I don’t fully understand,” he admitted.
That surprised me.
“You don’t even know the full story?” I asked.
“I know enough.
“But not everything.
Silence.
“You hate him,I said.
“Yes.
“And you came into my life because of that.”
Another silence.
Longer this time.
“Yes.
There it was.
The truth.
Raw.
Unfiltered.
“You used me.
His eyes met mine.
And for the first time…
there was something close to guilt.
“That was the plan.”
Was.
That one word changed everything.
I stepped closer.
Too close.
But I didn’t stop.
“And now?I asked.
His voice dropped.
Lower.
More honest.
“Now I don’t know.
My heart betrayed me.
Because despite everything…
that mattered.
“You should hate me,” he said quietly.
“Maybe I do.”
But I didn’t move away.
Neither did he.
The space between us disappeared slowly.
Not rushed.
Not forced.
Just… inevitable.
“You’re dangerous,” I whispered.
“So are you,” he replied.
And then
it happened.
The moment we both knew we shouldn’t cross.
But did anyway.
He kissed me.
And everything
the lies
the truth
the anger
the confusion
Collapsed into one moment.
It wasn’t soft.
It wasn’t perfect.
It was real.
And that made it worse.
Because the second it ended…
we both knew
There was no going back.
And whatever this was…
it was only going to get harder
