Amelia's POV:
“Tonight, everything will change.” I said to myself, as I walked through the clearing where the ceremony was being held.
This was the night I had waited for my entire life—the night I would find my Mate and finally escape the suffocating life I have been forced to endure.
The entire Blood Moon Pack was present, watching as unmated wolves moved around, hoping to feel the pull of the Mate bond.
Sighing, I smoothed my trembling hands over my pale white dress. It was nothing extravagant, not like the dresses the other She-wolves wore, but it was the best I could manage.
I had no mother to help me prepare for this day, no loving hands to braid my hair or whisper reassurances in my ear. I had only myself.
And I had hope.
For years, I had endured the whispers, the hateful glares, and the disgust in my father’s eyes.
Beta Ragnar had never hidden his resentment toward me, all because of the rumors that my mother had run off with another man.
My very existence was a stain on his reputation, a constant reminder of his humiliation. And the Pack treated me no better. They saw me as the daughter of a traitorous w***e, someone unworthy of their respect.
But none of that would matter once I found my mate.
A Mate was supposed to be a gift from the Moon Goddess, a bond stronger than anything in this world. My mate would see me, truly see me, and love me despite the cruelty I had suffered. He would take me away from this Pack, and together we would build a new life far away from my past.
I inhaled deeply, as my wolf stirred inside me, restless and eager. She could feel it. He was close. My mate was here.
And then I saw him.
Killian Fenrirson.
My breath hitched as my eyes landed on him. Killian—the Alpha’s son. The man I had secretly admired from afar for years.
He was strong, powerful, and breathtakingly handsome. His dark hair was neatly tied back, his gray eyes scanned the crowd, and when they landed on me, my entire body ignited with warmth.
The Mate Bond slammed into me and my wolf howled in excitement, and for the first time in my life, I felt like I truly belonged.
"Mate," I whispered breathlessly, stepping toward him.
His gaze darkened, and my heart pounded as I reached out, desperate for confirmation. “Killian… do you feel it too?” I asked softly, my voice trembling with hope.
But instead of joy, a look of pure disgust crossed his face. “No,” He said coldly.
I blinked. No? How is that possible, when I could feel it?
“You’re my mate,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “We’re fated.”
Killian took a step back as if my very presence repulsed him. “I refuse to accept this,” He spat, loud enough for everyone to hear.
Everyone turned to us, and my hands trembled at my sides as I stared at him.
“Killian… please…” My voice broke.
He laughed. “Did you think that I would accept just because the Moon Goddess paired me with you?” He sneered. “You? The daughter of a w***e?”
Gasps echoed around us.
“No…” I choked, shaking my head in disbelief.
He stepped closer. “You must be truly delusional if you thought I’d ever accept someone like you,” He continued mercilessly. “You’re nothing, Amelia. Just like your mother. A disgrace. And now, everyone knows just how pathetic you really are.”
I felt my knees weaken, and my entire body trembled.
How could he do this?
How could my own mate reject and humiliate me like this in front of everyone?
Tears burned behind my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing me break. But my wolf groaned inside me, she was in pain.
‘We have been rejected.’ She cried out, as the whispers grew louder.
“She actually thought the Alpha’s son would accept her?”
“She’s just like her mother.”
“No wonder he rejected her.”
I couldn’t take it.
Without another word, I turned and ran.
I ran past the Killian, past smiling faces, and past the bonfire. My vision blurred with unshed tears as I stumbled into the darkened forest.
Branches scraped against my skin, but I didn’t care. I kept running, as if I could escape the pain in my chest.
I finally collapsed beneath an oak tree, gasping for air as I shivered violently.
Why?
Why did the Moon Goddess give me a mate who despised me? Why did she curse me with a bond that brought me pain?
My mother left me, my father hates me, and now, my mate has rejected me in front of everyone.
I was truly alone.
I squeezed my eyes shut, pressing my forehead to the rough bark of the tree.
I wish I was never born.
Thought of suicide flashed across my mind, but I couldn’t push it away. What was the point of living if my own mate didn’t want me?
Suddenly, a cold breeze rustled the leaves around me, and I shivered.
I need to go home. Even if it wasn’t a place of comfort, it was better than this empty forest.
But just as I pushed myself to my feet, a growl echoed through the trees.
I froze.
A dozen glowing eyes stared at me from the darkness.
Rogues.
My breath hitched as I stumbled back, my heart slamming against my ribs.
The largest of the wolves stepped forward, his lips curling into a vicious snarl. “Look what we have here,” He growled. “A lost little pup.”
I turned to run, but something hard slammed into the back of my head.
Pain shot through my skull, and the last thing I saw before everything went black was the moon above me. “Moon Goddess… please… don’t let my life end this way. Please give me a second chance…”
And then, everything went dark.
