Chapter 2

Rebecca's POV What did I think would happen? He's always been so dismissive and frustrating, but his sudden act of kindness forced me to reconsider. He halted two rooms away from his father's study, and I mimicked his action. "Go in, your dress is already there. Stay inside until the party begins." He didn't wait for my response before walking away. What a rude fellow. I followed his instructions, entering the room and taking in the sparse surroundings. Other than the queen-sized bed, the box on the bed, and a solitary mirror along with an old wardrobe, the room was empty, which seemed unusual for this mansion. Normally, all the rooms here are lavishly furnished, but this one seemed unusually ordinary. I sat on the bed and, to my surprise, it was quite comfortable. Before long, I drifted off to sleep. The sound of a loud noise coming from downstairs followed by a loud knock on my door woke me up, I was completely shocked and, without giving them any permission to come in, the maids entered. Three of them, to be precise, and one with a makeup box, weren't putting on their normal uniform so I could tell that she wasn't part of the staff. “What is this about?” “I apologize for the disturbance, but Master Adam has called for you.” “Does that mean the party has started?” I asked and looked around for my phone to check the time but I remembered the evil twins collected the phone from me earlier. “Yes, it started an hour ago“ one of them answered, while I gasped, shocked. ‘Why didn't that bastard wake me up a little earlier’ I looked at the maids and I knew exactly what they were here for. To help me get dressed, I honestly don't like that and Adam knows it, but this is another stupid idea of his to punish me. “Can you all go out for a moment, I will take my bath and let you…..” “I apologize, but the master says to be with you through everything” Here, Adam and his father's words are the final say, they won't listen to anything I say anyway so why should I bother? “Fine” I stand up from the bed and head to the bathroom. They follow me and help me off my clothes while I sit inside the bathtub one of them has prepared. It took a few minutes for my bath and they gave me a white robe to cover myself. After taking a bath and donning a white robe, I returned to the room and stared at myself in the mirror before taking a seat back on the bed. However, my frustration grew when another maid entered with trays of shoes and accessories. I appreciate dressing up, but I would have preferred to do it on my own. I had no say in my marriage and my family, I couldn't even tell the maids I would like to be alone because no one cared, and I hated it. I want my freedom, I want to feel alive like I was three years ago, I hate it in here but not even my family seems indifferent about my feelings, so why should Adam care? They were done with dolling me up, and one of them gave me a small mirror to look at myself but I threw it away. After they finished, I told them, "I think you have done more than my husband asked you to. You can leave now." I was hoping that they would leave, and they did. Finally, I had some time alone to relax. I noticed a box next to me and opened it to find a beautiful black dress, a design by a famous designer, Aj, and the dress collection titled Obsession. I wondered why Adam had gotten me such an expensive and stunning dress. I decided to put it on, and as I looked at myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but appreciate how beautiful it looked. The dress had a revealing back, adorned with numerous diamonds in the front, and a thigh-high slit. It felt like a departure from the usual boring clothes in my wardrobe, chosen by my mother-in-law. My hair was styled up in a high ponytail, revealing my neck, added a diamond necklace and matching earrings, and for the finishing look, I chose a sparkling diamond shoe to go with the purse. It was different from my normal style, and it made me feel special. I look pretty, just for one night. I just want to feel like myself before marriage. I went outside and the maid was still waiting for me. “So annoying,” I remarked, and went downstairs. The room was filled with music and people's laughter, it was intoxicating, and for a moment I wanted to go back to my room, but I couldn't, with each step I took down the stairs nervous. Adam was the first person to be aware of my arrival, his eyes were fixed on me like he had been waiting for me forever. Delusional, I know, then everyone at the party, I took a deep breath as I looked at every one of them too. I need help because there is no way I would join the party with the way they are looking at me. Adam walked toward me, and stretched his hand for me to take, like he could see through me. I gave him a fake smile and I took his hand. He led me to the party floor and everyone pretended to take their eyes off us. It was so much better than before. “Do you like the dress?” Adam asked while I nodded shyly and he smirked. He was about to say something else when Katie came and pulled him away from me. “You have to meet this person” was her excuse before taking my husband away, I was alone at the party but not for long. Dorothy and her evil twin, plus their stupid friends came too. “I can't believe you are wearing this dress” She giggled and her friends came next. “Is there a reason I can't wear it?” I asked and another laughter followed" Gosh they are so annoying. “That dress, Adam didn't buy it for you. It was all because of Gina” Gina is Adam's ex-girlfriend. They were close to getting married till she canceled it. “Gina is a huge fan of the designer Aj and this obsessed collection was the one she truly wanted. This particular dress was her favorite but Adam brought it before her and he gave it to you, along with her favorite jewelry brand, her shoe stores and bags, and even the make-up and the way you style your hair look just like her” “Do you have to be obvious that Adam isn't over his ex and dress like her just to win his heart?” I scoffed at her ridiculous statement, but with the way everyone was looking at me, I could tell they felt the same. I wanted to yell at her that the maids did my makeup and hair but I won't make a fool out of myself at their party. “You are with my phone, where is it?” I questioned and she rolled her eyes at me before she handed it over to me. I moved away from the hall to phone my bodyguard to get the car ready, but Seth's call came through, I didn't want to talk to him or anyone, but I had to pick it up. “Hello…” “Rebecca, Grandpa….” his voice breaks and he doesn't have to finish his words before I know what he means. “When?” “Just a few minutes ago” “I understand, I will be there in a few minutes,” I said and ended the call, I was expecting tears to roll down but nothing. I guess I feel so little for my Grandpa after all. It is the only reason that can explain why I'm smiling instead of crying. I give Collins a call to let him know I will be outside soon. I went back to the party but was concerned by Dorothy and her gang again. “Are you not going to change the dress? Doing this won't change anything. Don't be like your mother, wicked and cold-” She didn't finish her words before I slapped her on her face. Her friends gasped while I rolled my eyes, trying to control myself but she kept asking for it. “How dare you? You must have a dead wish?” I gave her another slap and everyone turned their attention to us. “Yes, I do and I'm tired of your stupid silly games, I just showed you that I'm not interested in your brother” I walked to where Adam was standing with an angry look on his face. “Rebecca, why did…” “I want a divorce” “What?” “You heard me right, I'm divorcing you”
